African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

I had my two week follow up with the surgeon. I only lost 12 lbs postoperative' date=' and I am so disappointed. Although I have lost 25lbs in the last 4 weeks, those numbers sting badly. The surgeon said that I lost at a good pace, but I only see others talking about 20-30lbs in two weeks. Am I alone in the way I feel? I can't get over my feelings of failure. I have surgery and still can't lose weight.[/quote']

Don't compare your weight loss to others. That's a big no-no. Please know that it will take time. Celebrate your losses and try walking a little more to increase your exercise goals.

Just got approved, and set my date. I will be sleeved on 5/28. I have to transition some projects at work, which is why I picked the later date. So anxious, and nervous.

Thanks so much! I WILL SUCCEED!

I'm down 91 so far. I had a lot of trouble with eating so when my stomach finally allowed me to eat i was eating non stop and actually put on 10 pounds but it was alright cause i lost it in a week and a half when it settled down. I needed it though as i had very little energy before but I'm doing a lot better now. I eat a lot of fish and shrimp too. I really like the turkey chili with no beans. i have made turkey taco's' date=' meatloaf and chili using vegetarian beans and ground turkey. I made all these as my wife had the surgery the week after me and we split it and save the leftovers to eat over a couple of days. It really helps when you have someone to go through it with you. She's down 56 so far. I will say that my biggest challenge i faced i have found some nice posts on another topic about soda fixes. Crush makes a single drink mix to put in a bottle of water that tastes like soda without the carbonation. They have Squirt, Grape, Orange, and i just found Strawberry. Some one also suggested using the syrups from the soda stream makers in regular water. they have diet and even some use Splenda instead of sugar in the non diet syrups. But none use high fructose corn syrup.[/quote']

Hey I'm new to this forum and glad that I found it. I have seen those crush and squirt drink mixes and was wondering about them. I think I might try them. I'm really not a big soda drinker but every once in a while I like to have some. Thanks for that info.

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the thread and so grateful that I found it! My process has been a breeze and my surgery is in 4 days (3/15). I'm 28 year old but suffering with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol to name a few... I'm ready for a change.. I live in Louisiana so I know it will definitely be a challenge in the early stages but I'm ready for it! I know that months later when I'm able to eat soul food, it will be right here waiting for me but in much smaller portions! I'm nervous but excited for a sexier and healthier me!!

Congrats you all.. still waiting on my date. Completed my pre op testing friday now just my visit with the surgeon and I'm ready.. fingers crossed for April...

Your picture has inspired me!

Congrats !!! You look great

Good luck. Im 6 weeks out and it was NOT easy for me, although many don't have many complications. I endured mine and It was the best decision I have made when I went shopping last week for clothes because my pants were falling off of me. Congrats and don't lose focus.
