African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Congrats to you. What type of Protein and in what amounts are you intaking? You should not be hungry at this point in the process, which in some cases is mind hunger. If you are truly feeling some hunger then you need to increase your protein amount. You should be getting in 60-80 grams of protein daily in order not to have side effects (hair loss, and other deficiencies).

Good luck to all I am 5 mos out and don't regret one second of my journey remember its not all about the weight it is about renewing your mind and partnering with your new sleeve ask me questions you may not want to ask the professionals hit me up at foodnoproblem@ gmail.com this is a great site for info. Good luck

Thank you!! I'm drinking the powdered Protein Shakes but today was the first day I was able to drink 8oz & that took an hour! I also put a scoop in my pudding so I believe I got in about 40g of protein today. I just don't feel like I can get more of anything in. The only thing I can tolerate 100% is green tea and Water. Mostly everything is so sweet it makes me gag!! My follow up appt is Wed so I will talk to the dr about it. Thanks for the advice!! When were you sleeved?

Hello Guys!

I am excited to say that my surgery will be this Thursday! However, there are a few questions that I have. I was told to take 3,500mg in calcium citrate. Everywhere I have read always says that 1500 mg should be the limit. I was wondering how much calcium other sleevers are taking. As we know calcium effects the bones and teeth and etc. and I dont want to suffer any deficiency however, I dont want to overdose either. SOMEBODY RESPOND QUICKLY AND SWIFTLY PLEASE! I have a lot of support and I am looking forward to a big change.

Thanks and be blessed,

Hey Ladybug how did things go, how are you feeling?

Hey everyone im whitney. I am so happy to have found a site where i can communicate with people going through some of the same issues i am. I am post op hoping to have my surgery sometime this year.

Out of all the things people say you should expect after surgery the one think that bothered me was the hairloss. I am one of those ladies who relaxes and flat irons her hair religously. I just wonder what effects the surgery will have on relaxed hair or is going natural something i need to consider.

Try the BIOTIN supplements about 10,000 u a day. But of course check with your doctor first.

LHT do you use this? How has it worked?

I just started .....my coworker told me about it it has help with her hair

Glad for your co worker the majority of weight loss patients lose hair around 3 mos after surgery. My hair started at.3 mos I took biotin daily and 2 mos prior to surgery hope you don't have to deal with it :)

I was sleeved ystrday. I'm sore, but happy

Hello all, I am new to the forum after stumbling on it while looking up a question. I am a 35 yr old Black Woman from Delaware and I was sleeved on March 6th. It took me quite some time to read most of the post. They were very informative. It certainly was a Blessing to me to find this forum and that exist for black people. After reading some of the post I definitely am relieved. Thank you all for sharing. Peace, Grace, and Mercy be multiplied unto you all!

1. Went to the movies and no craving for my old Favorite movie popcorn.

2. Sexin is better

3. Walking without being short of breath

4. My Dh joined me in the no popcorn at the movies we still had fun.

5. Cooking for the family is bringing us closer. I thought at first I'd never join my family For meal time. Now I cook mine separate and no one questions me. We are happy. It is a healing process.

6. Went from a 22w to a regular 18.

Hang in there new Sleevers it gets better.

Blessing to all who are on this Journey.

Congrats to you. Welcome to the next step in your journey. You will be sore for a few days, but each day gets better.

Question...what are you using for scars? The large incision looks yucky. I'm only 7 days out so I know I have a long way to go but wondering. Thanks!
