African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Hi' date=' Leleboo. I'm having my surgery on March 13th just a few day before you.[/quote']

Hi my3kids4life that's great maybe we can compare notes. I also have 3 kids.

Ur welcome did u get a date yet

Not yet, hopefully I will soon. I called insurance yesterday to check on the status & got the call today from the lady I'd spoken with yesterday. I was really happy that I heard so soon, cause she had told me to check back on Friday of this wk. I then called my surgeon's office & they said that they would try to get the approval letter faxed to them instead of just mailed so that I can schedule my date. I told her (in so many words), lol, "Let's get this crackin'!" hahaha...

LOL I had my date 4 Jan 29 and on the 25 found out I had pid so know I have 2 wait till April 5 to c my surgen and get a date

Hey... What part of Jersey are you from and who's your surgeon?? Im live in Plainfield and had my surgery @ JFK in Edison with Dr Abkin...

I had my surgery at overlook medical. I am from Union county. My surgeon was doctor Forrester. How many days for you!

Hi I was sleeved 02/08/13 at northhills hospital' date=' tx!! Didn't believe how many African-American's were getting the sleeve done until I started watching YouTube:) It made the journey so much easier. I felt like I wasn't the only one:)[/quote']

Hey, I'm in Texas too! I was sleeved on 11/18/12. How are you coming alone?

Well, I have my follow up appt today with my surgeon. Getting tired of just broth, Water and Popsicles! I feel pretty good. The only issue is the lump I get in my throat at times? I don't know what's that from? How are you? I hope this gets better:)

Awww man...I would've been so let down. Well, good thing time flies though. It's already almost March...goodness!

Okay, My date is March 4th! I just found out that my surgeon has done LESS THAN 100 sleeve surgeries. I knew that his specialty was the Band, but I didn't want to switch surgeons & prolong the process. I was just a little shocked to find that it was less than 100. Yikes. I sincerely solicite the PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS & ALL BELIEVERS. Thank you!

Today they may take you to another stage. I don't know what the lump could be from. Make sure to bring it up at the appt. It will get a lot better. I'm doing pretty good. I'm almost 3 months out and I still have questions on what to eat...and things like that. My nutritionist always tell me that I'm not eating enough or getting enough Proteins. So believe it or not I'm still having issues with that. Which causes me to lose slower and at times have weight stalls. I'm trying to get better with it though

Hi I was sleeved on 1/8/13 my pre op weight was 240 n now I'm 210. I'm still having issues with eating everything taste different. I drink ready made protein shakes. They r the only things keeping me going . And plenty of water I don't know y but I can only eat something if it's mixed with something like mustard. Everything sweet makes me run for cover. Lol I'm ok with it though. I've had ground chicken burger it stayed down, tuna mixed with lots of relish n mustard. Oh n turkey sandwhich with provolone cheese n tomato. That's it nothing else appeals to me. And I only ate that cause my husband was scared that I'm starving myself. I really don't have an appetite. Oh yeah almost forgot I found these kale chips at GNC that r ok I sprinkle a little XTRA cayenne pepper n eat a few u can't go wrong with those . I'm from NYC is anyone from here ???????

NYC is the place to be!!! i'm here too!

I love that you have created a section where we can share info, that is certain to affect only women of color,. I too love all color brothers and sisters, however, we are made up differently in certain instances. Please keep posting info... Also would like to ask about Slidder foods, just heard recently about them... such as chips, popcorn, etc. Why don't these foods fill us up? Thanks again
