Thirtysomething's

I would also like to know things like when you had your surgery, where, weight loss, age related bandster issues (if any) etc.

I just saw this thread. I've been married 8 years, no kids, one dog.

I had my surgery March 1 of this year in Shawnee, KS, so just about 3.5 months ago.

According to home scale I've lost 75 pounds since surgery.

Age related bandster issues... none really. Well, one - for me a big part of my decision to do this is that finally after 8 years of marriage, and 6 years of decisively not wanting kids, DH & I are ready to start a family, but there's no way I'd let myself get pregnant when I was 200 lbs heavier than a healthy weight. I believed I could lose the weight, but not keep it off... and all the while I'm certainly not getting any younger. My pre-op psychologist actually asked me my top 3 reasons for doing this, and being able to carry/have a child without the risk of add'l complications that come from MO pregnany was my #2 reason. I guess that makes it an age-related band issue...

Hi. My name is Kim, I'm 35 (pushing 36). I'm married and have a 3 yo son (otherwise known as "the boss"). Also a mom to a cairn terrier (toto dog) and a neurotic cat with serious dominance issues. I'm in the beginning stages of the insurance approval thing. I have federal employee insurance, so maybe they will be kind and approve me with no problem. Been on diets for the last 27 years, hopefully this will be the tool I've been looking for. My lowest adult weight was 113, when I was 22 (or I say "many many many pounds ago"). Currently tipping scales at 220, 5'0", goal of 125, but will be thankful to get to 150 and stay there, but MAYBE looking to have second and last child (depends if DH behaves). I know if I got pregnant now it would NOT be a good thing, financially or Healthwise. The real bad part is THIS is how much I weighed when I gave birth to a full term baby over 3 years ago! Scarry! Any wisdom you all can provide that would be great...Oh, have psych eval Monday, wish me luck....:nervous

Hi everyone,

My name is Dawn and I will be 38 on June 25th. I have 3 kids 20 years, 16 years and 3 years old. You are probably wondering what the heck were we thinking on the 3 year old. My husband and I were very happy to find out we were having our 3rd child. Now we joke around and say what the heck were we thinking. We were so close to being free and able to do what we wanted but I wouldn't change her for anything. My husband and I will have been married for 20 years on August 1st. He is a great guy and supports me in anything I want to do. He did not agree 100% with this surgery. He had his reservations and concerns but he still supported my decision. I am lucky to have him.

Hi all, Maria here.

I was banded just last week on 6-7-06 in TJ Mexico by Dr.Kuri. WOW, what a wonderful experience I had. The hotel and hospital was awsome.

I just turned 31 on 6-6-06 and celebrated by BD doing my pre-op in TJ. I am married working on my 4th yr of marriage and have an 8yr old son, we live near Tacoma, WA. We have 2 cats. Hopefully will be making an addition to the family as I start to get some of this weight off.

I am a stay at home because I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Nov of 2004 and had to quit my job in May of 2005. My goal is to get some of this weight off and hopefully be able to go back to work part time or work from home. So far I am doing really well, I was blessed with a major burst of energy and I am taking full advantage of it. Walking, getting out side as much as I can.

Good luck to all of us and would love to hear more @ all of you.

Maria

Hi there, I am new here, its like my second day,, trying to figure things out. Im a 30yo single professional girl. I am a respiratory therapist right now, I have a degree in merchandising management. I know 2 sides of the spectrum, but thats me.. Did I mention I am a Libra?? lol.I have 2 persian cats, a pug, and a neo mastiff. Im an only child. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to cruise.

I have always been big my whole life. I look back and think, wow, I wasnt that big. My normal fat self is about 265 which was always a size 22/24.. Im about 5'10 and pretty muscular. In my 20's I did alot of stupid shit to loose weight, and then just said screw it, and wow did it pack on fast. I think in one year (2000-2001) I gained like 80lbs, then I went back to school for a second degree and packed on about 20-30 more, and somehow I ended up over 400lbs. I went into a serious state of depression. I finally got over it, started loving myself for the first time, at the biggest I ever was. Sometimes, I think God made me gain the weight to learn to accept myself. Well I do, and I am ready to get it off. I dont know if the whole getting older thing is true, or all the diet abuse screwed me up, but I just cant drop the 20lbs in a week like I used to. SUCKS. Ive been trying to get the lap band for almost 11 months now. I am in the final stage of approval. My insurance company keeps throwing all these delay tactics at me. I am actually at my wits end. I keep praying for a sign if this will be the thing for me if I am approved. I just hate the waiting. I find myself eating like a pig a few days before I have to go in and get my monthly weigh in... does anyone else feel like this? I was starting to think maybe it is meant to be that I dont have this surgery, and then I found this website, and now I am empowered and motivated again. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories, It helps.

I will be banded in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Sanchez Vidrio. Anyone heard of him? I haven't seen his name on this site at all. I'm getting a little nervous about that. I hope my research was thorough enough.

Personally I am 36 years old, married for 13 years, and I have 5 boys that keep me very busy. I have been looking into weight loss surgery for years and finally decided to go for it. I have been over 250 lbs for 20 years and am now around 285 (no scale at home!).

I'm looking forward to posting my sucesses in the near future (if I can figure out how to use this site better)!

Hi thirty-somethings...

I am 31, going to be 32 in August, I still can't believe it sometimes, where did my 20's go???!!! I have been married for almost 9 years but we have been together for 12 years (feels like an ETERNITY!!!) and we have two adorable boys as you can see in my Avatar. Brady is 8 and Coby is 2. They definately keep us busy, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Can't imagine what life would be like without them.

So anyway, I was very active in high school and early 20's, looking back I know now that I was thin but of course didn't think so at the time, gained all my weight with my 2 pregnancies and never took it off. I was banded August of 05 and have not done very well with it. I have no restriction because I haven't been able to get to my after care doctor but only once last December (it is a 5 hour drive). So I finally made an appt for June 26, I need to get this show on the road.

Good luck to everyone in their band journeys!!

My name is Tricia. I'm 35 years of age, married with an 8 year old step-son. My husband and I own a web design business and both work out of the home. We plan on trying to have a child at the beginning of next year. We have 4 cats (AHH!) that we love dearly.

I was banded on September 16, 2005 and have lost a total of 81 pounds thus far. I have had no complications or band issues, other than a brief over-fill episode in early May 2006, which was corrected immediately.

I read all the posts on this thread....LOL took me a good 2 hours cuz hubby was buggin me for food.. sheesh, HI ALL! There are so many questions and comments I have but I will save that for later....O except for the TP, I wondered what the hell that was when I was in there!!!!! LMAO

WARNING...I HAVE MY OWN LANGUGE AND FORGET THAT PEOPLE DONT KNOW IT SO IF YA GOT A QUESTION JUST ASK!!!! AND IF I RAMBLE JUST TELL ME TO SHUT UP!!

About me.... My name is Kat but not to confuse people Meow is good. I am 34, and live in the 7th circle of Hell aka Vegas. I got married on Halloween last year (does that say something about me?) Yeeeeessssssss it was a themed wedding, lol there are pics floating around, Zootsuits and all!!! No kids, but we want some. My hubby is from El Salvador and INS is a B*tch! I have 3 dogs Jax, Jezabel & Jinx (pics of them on here too) I am not banded, branded or tatooed *sigh* but I hope to be someday. I work with the Developmentally Disabled, but the pay is crap so I went back to school, I should be done at the end of summer *crossing all fingers and toes* My favorite thing in life is to laugh, and I do quite alot.

I was born and raised in San Diego. (I miss the Beach!!!!) I lived in Japan for a year, then moved to Olympia. I gained 100 lbs my Senior year of high school. Then the next year at my first "real" job I lost my mind and became a manager and gained another 100 lbs. Side note: MCDONALDS AND ALL FAST FOODS ARE FROM THE DEVIL!!!!! Sooooo, I whaled around in my 20s and had a really good time. I dont think I was ever in reality of my wieght. I wore hooker outfits (club gear) and danced all weekend. I was never uncomfortable with my body. My philosophy was, and is,"Ya, I am fat and?" LMAO and my advice to my phat friends, "Its not like he doesnt know your fat..." I did do some dieting, realizing that there are physical consequences to being fat. I did Atkins, and Phen Phen....I miss my pills!!!! Anywhoooooo

Then I moved to Hell, or Lost Wages if your talking to my Dad, and I started having issues. I found out I had high blood pressure. Then I started having racing heart things happening, then swelling in my legs and feet. I then started looking into surgery. Working in my field the cheap B*stards dont wanna pay so they all have exclusions to WLS. Well 2 weeks ago I found out I have Diabetes too. Soooo now I am looking for "creative financing" LOL to get my band. Hey I just got a credit card thingy in the mail for 3.9% for the first 6 months, I am lookin into that!!!!!!

I think I am around 400, Did I just say that????? LOL I would be happy at 250, I would run nakky threw the streets at 175. LMAO I am 5' 8 1/2" but I am large boned, I swear!!! LOL I have many tests coming this month so hopefully I will know more, cuz I swear I have PCOS, or fibroids or sumfin.

So for now I have cut back on portions, no sugar and salt, and I am really trying to only eat salad from Donalds!!!! I know I have already lost wieght but tomarrow I will find out the accual damage. I also am starting to exercise again AUGGGGG It is a little painful!!!!! I miss dancing, but I am sooooo way outta shape...Its my mini goal, hehehehe to be able to dance a half hour straight!!!!! VIVA SALSA!!!! lol ok I did watch So you think You can Dance tonight.......SI SE PUEDES!!!!!!

Good Luck, Good Tidings and GOOOODNIGHT!

Peace Out

Hi all. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I turned 38 in April and will get my band this fall. Currently I'm doing a 6 month doctor supervised diet for insurance purposes.

I'm single with a little girl who will be 5 in September. She is my pride and joy!

I work as a cafeteria manager. But I'm back in school full-time so I can get out of the kitchen. I used to work in restaurants as a manager and/or chef...so as you can see food is my life...I know I'll continue in the industry, I can't walk away from 20 years of experience, I just don't want to be on the serving end where it's so easy to eat!

Holla back!

Juli

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
