I know I know....it wasn't the healthiest...

Recommended Posts

....but I had a taste for it and I made it. Yes....Chili Dip. I don't think it was THAT bad for me, but I know it wasn't the healthiest. I had low fat chili without Beans, fat free cream cheese and fat free shredded cheese...all melted together in the oven. MMMMMMMMM..... I had 4 small wheat crackers and I only ate about a two spoonfuls of it. Is that bad you guys? I feel so guilty...but I am 4 weeks out of surgery and I am SO sick of tuna, fish, and Soup. I couldn't take it anymore! LOL! I'm just now breaking my 3 week weight loss stall...I'm down 42 pounds since pre op....so I can definitely feel my body changing and wanting a little more to eat (although I can't really eat...only a few bites and I have that full feeling). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can eat...that's good and not feel so guilty. One thing...I'm not craving anything sweet...so I guess there is hope. LOL:thumbup:

What is wrong with it? I made my own turkey chili and honestly, once I uploaded the recipe to sparkpeople, it worked out to be 190 calories, 15 carbs (mostly from the beans), 7g fat, and 17g Protein for a small bowl (around 4-6 oz) and that was WITH a sprinkling of low fat shredded cheddar and a dollop of light sour cream! Aint nothing wrong with those numbers I don't think.

The chilli dip sounds fine, actually. You used all low-fat ingredients and Beans give you a little Protein. If you just cut out the wheat crackers and perhaps just eat the dip with a little spoon, that would be a fine meal.

Feel no guilt, it sounds like you are totally on the right track and have your head in the right place for making some healthy substitutions. Lots of Protein there and those are the good carbs, not the sugar carbs. So good for you at four weeks out!!!

Meh, I'm eating Whataburger chicken strips for lunch every day and losing 3 lbs a week, pre-surgery of course. Not healthy but I'm getting the job done of dropping a little weight before seeing my nutritionist.

Doug,

They have Whataburger in Vegas?! I thought it was only a Texas thing. I made sure I had Whataburger before I started my pre-op diet!

What you ate is actually on the soft food mushy list. You didn't do anything wrong.

Go in the recipe section and look up the ricotta bake. A lot of people really like it.

When I was on mushies, I cooked ground turkey with taco seasoning and mixed it with sour cream and sprinkled with cheese.

Let's don't talk about Whataburger! Making me very hungry for a big juicy burger and fries! lol Of course, I couldn't eat 2 bites now but... (smile)

Okay, I live in Texas and I'm telling you, I'm 5 months out and I'm still not tried a burger from anywhere. Just afraid to try it. But the recipe on here sounds good. Don't sound like you did too bad.

Sounds awesome to me! I may have to try it. I'm 4 weeks out and still on mushies for one more week! I'm also completely sick of all the same old stuff. Just tried the ricotta bake the other night, and that was a very nice change! Has anyone tried guacamole at this stage? or maybe I could just mash up an avocado or puree it with a little salt & pepper. I'm trying to be creative. I made chicken salad last night but I didn't care for it that much and it didn't really sit well either. the ground turkey mentioned above sounds really good too!

I think the whole "low fat" and "fat free" is just so wrong in your concoction!

I wish people would try regular cheeses again - I'd rather take 1 oz. of full fat cheese over 2 oz. of low fat cheese any time. The satisfaction you get from normal food is 10x what you get from all the no fat stuff, which needs a ton of chemicals, stabilizers and other artificial stuff that simply doesn't belong in cheese. It so much doesn't belong in cheese that they are often not even allowed to call it cheese anymore - how screwed up is that?

Instead fat free cream cheese and fat free shredded cheese use half the amount of the normal stuff. It is a little less in volume, but 10x the flavor, 10x the satisfaction and keeps you full a lot longer! Good God, the fat free shredded cheese doesn't even melt, LOL

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
