hey everybody!!!

just wanted to say hi and that i'm home. the surgery went great! dr spivak and the crew calmed my fears. i was told to be there at 6:30 am and i was wheeled by to surgery alittle after 8:00 am.i was the second one. everybody kept saying i was doing really good in the step-down unit because i was so alert. i really didn't have a problem with the anesthesia. i was able to drink my Water and i was able to go home around 11:15. i finally just woke up and i'm trying to sip on some chxn broth and water. the gas pains are starting to kick in, but other than that i'm not in alot of pain. i'm still kinda riding on the Fentanyl they gave before surgery.

well, again just wanted to keep ya'll updated and Melisaa i'll PM you(and any other of dr spivak's patients) to let you know what exactly happened.

talk to you later!

Hello all... Just checking in to let you know I am home too. Got to the hospital at 8am, did some running around to get labs done, then got ready for surgery. Made it home around 1:30 and have been sleeping off and on. Feel like I have been hit by a train at this point, but it is easier than having my appendix removed. Will post about the hospital on the Decatur thread.

Congrats to all of us that did not chicken out today!!!

Poodles,

Really? Is it really easier than having the appendix removed? I had mine removed in 1999, but I still remember, clear as day, how painful the recovery was. Were yours removed laparoscopically?

I'm due for my surgery in 3 weeks and I am sooooo nervous. Wondering why I'm voluntarily choosing to go in and have surgery... what is wrong with my head?

I need to hear that the recovery is pretty minor as I'm having my band placed on the 26th in TJ, then returning to San Diego on the 28th for the remainder of the week to resume our scheduled vacation. Which means lots of walking, Sea World, and relaxing on the beach. Not a lot of "bed time" scheduled...

Glad to hear all went well for you...

Hi all,

Well made it through surgery. I felt very antsy when I came around after surgery, but also very sleepy. Odd! I went into surgery about 9:20am and was home at about 12:30. Once home I started to feel much better. have had pressure in my shoulder, chest and side. but it always subsides with walking. I have tried to get up and walk for about 10 minutes every hour. I have not taken any pain meds yet but will tonight. I am trying to stay away from it, so that I will walkand not just sleep the day away. glad everyone else is doing well and look forward to hearing from others.

I bet after i have my surgery you all are going to get tired of seeing my belly everyday. heheheh:biggrin1:

i went to that scar thread the other day. I hope it looks worse than it really is.

Question:

How were your incisions closed?

Lizzie:

The biggest difference between appendix and lap band is the location of the incisions. With my appendix, they were in my "giggly" section, so every movement hurt. With the lap band they are high, and I can lay down, sit down, move around, etc. Now I STILL HAVE PAIN. It does hurt, I will not lie to you, but it is much different, and I think hurts less than the appendix surgery, which I had three incisions.

My incisions were glued and taped and then covered with bandaids.

I think you will do fine with two days between surgery and heading home. I am already feeling much better... but that could be the codeine talking. ;)

Hey here is another stupid question. My doctor put the medium size band in. Guess that is the 10 cm. He said it was "pretty snug" and that I should stay on broth/gatorade/water for two days. What do you think that means? I think I was borderline big band... but that he figured I would lose quickly. Your interpretation?????

I would take that to mean you should have good restriction before a fill. I am envious. How are the liquids going down. I don't seem to have any problem. I am on liquids until tomorrow and then I start soft food, I can't wait, as I am already hungry.

My doctors office just called me and said they put in the low profile port, which is the smaller port ad 4cc band. I think I am happy about this, although I don't know eough yet.

I am off to move around to get this gas out of my shoulder.

Hi everyone,

Just checking in! I talked to Marie at the clinic yesterday and she said to try to get some more nutrition in.

Sunday - I full Optifast over 2 sittings

1/2 Cup Tomato Soup - over 2 sittings

1/4 tub Jello - but had difficulties with it - too rubbery would not dissolve in my mouth before swallowing and stuck

lots of Water and crystal light

1/2 popsicle

Yesterday

1 full Optifast over 2 sittings

1/2 C of cream of chicken Soup strained - over 2 sittings

lots of Water and crystal light

She told me to try some cottage cheese today if I wanted it.

I am still having gas pain - shoulder and left side - not passing gas - just there. only took one demerol yesterday and then liquid tylenol at bedtime and slept most of the night on my side!!

Trying to go out for the mail and to the grocery store today - will let you know how that goes!

Thank you ladies for posting so soon after your surgeries, I am scheduled for the first surgery on Wednesday june 7th and I am extremely nervous, I actually woke up in the middle of the night last night wondering if I am really having this surgery or if it was a dream. Please saya prayer cause the nervousness is a big problem at this point, I'm on the clear liquid fast today and I can hardly wait for the surgery but I still am anxious... excited. Reading your posts so soon after your surgery gives me hope.

Thank you.

Annemarie

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
