Missing food

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Now that you had surgery, how hard is it to eat correctly, does anyone miss eating whatever you want.. what are the foods restrictions and how do you handle it?

At 9 months out (50+ down), I don't really feel like I have given up anything. I still eat most everything that I love. I can't handle soft breads, but that really doesn't bother me. I eat a variety of things just far less of it.

My BFF who had gastric is now lactose intollerant and also has a hard time digesting a lot of meats.

I much rather have my band.

I eat what I want and as much as I feel comfortable with. I don't miss much and like our forum member Pink Dahlia said: "I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!"

Some of us find certain foods like bread or steak or dry chicken hard to swallow. I don't, but some do.

I don't miss anything but I can pretty much eat anything if I "choose" to.

I stay away from bread, Pasta and chocolate(lol) but when I really am in need of a burger I have one. I love a burger on an "everything bagle thin" think i like it more than a bun. And sometimes you just need pasta :). but 1/2 cup of pasta and I am full. It fits into my diet so I eat it. But I will say, I don't typically miss eating a lot of bread or pasta or chocolate. I have told this story before but I'll share again. I used to be a chocoholic, probably ate chocolate everyday. One day I was standing in line at the grocery store and they have all the candy bars at the check out. I was standing there looking at them thinking " if i was going to have just one, which one would I pick?" I couldn't even hypothetically pick one cuz none of them even looked that good to me!!!!! I have had candy and I must admit, it isn't that tasty anymore. I didn't ever think I would feel that way about chocolate. I was so worried about being successful because I didn't know how I would ever give it up. It hasn't been that hard. Best of Luck!

I can honestly say that so far..I miss nothing. I am in stage 2 foods right now. I do not miss bread, chocolate, or sweets. I really thought I would. I believe that I have surprised myself in my willpower to do anything to get healthy. I feel awesome!

Potato chips are what we call a slider food. Chips and crackers I can eat till the cows come home so I just don't buy them.

It's been 3 1/2 yrs for me and I can eat pretty much whatever I want (cept thick pizza crust, pineapple chunks, and pancakes) just in really small quantities. But you asked if we ever miss eating something: YES! I miss eating at buffets! We go to hometown Buffet about once a month now (my husband is a low carber and can get his fill of meat and veggies there), and I fill my plate (everytime, mind you). I eat about 1/3 of it. I look around and see all these people eating 4-5 plates of food. While I don't miss eating the volume, I wish I could have tasted some of the other stuff on my plate before being finished. I'm such a waste of money ona buffet. I tried using my Lapband Meal Card there, hoping for the $4.99 childrens price - nope, they no longer accept them.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that I miss eating a variet of foods at the buffet. I wish I could taste all of them - but alas, I can't. Thats a good thing, really!

Great post Marci. I can totally see myself feeling the same way when I get to that stage of eating. But, I think for me that is a small price to pay :D

I was banded in Oct. I've lost 68 lbs so far. Honestly there are times it has been hard. I love fitting in smaller clothes. I feel better physucally and most of the time emotionally. But sometimes i do miss food. Never realized how important it was. Too important. I have a great support group through my dr and i do see a therapist sometimes too. Life's hard and im working on finding ways besides food to make me happy!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
