Today is my 1 month bandiversary and I gained 1 pound :(. I don't know how since I am following my doctors instructions and I am exercising. My nutritionist didn't seem concerned but is this normal? I'm down 23 pounds this month by I wanted more

So now you have really joined the rest of us in this journey. No rhyme or reason. It has happened to most of us. Weight loss is a mystery. The body will decide when it is time to let go of the weight. Sometimes it hangs on to it thinking that you are starving it. So hang in there. The body will release the weight and next month at your weigh in you should do great. The Doctors know this and that is why they weren't concerned.

Hi sweet girl! I too was also discouraged by the non weight loss. I just kept doing what I was doing and the scale has started creeping down again. Last week, I think I had a day where my food choices were high in sodium and gained a pound.....it quickly came off with better choices.

Don't get discouraged. You are doing a great job!!

Today is my 1 math bandiversary and I gained 1 pound :(. I don't know how since I am following my doctors instructions and I am exercising. My nutritionist didn't seem concerned but is this normal? I'm down 23 pounds this month by I wanted more

why so discouraged? you said you are eating right, exercising, i do not see a problem. the scale goes up and down all day long....maybe TOM, maybe you didnt go to bathroom or your socks are too heavy. the first 4-6 weeks, you are healing. weight loss will happen if you stick with it. and it seems as if you are. question, are you clothes feeling looser? are they? if so, then you are losing....regardless of what the scale may or may not say.

I've been logging my food for the past 6 months as I've noticed that when I have a high sodium meal the very next day ill weigh up to 2 lbs more.. Which usually comes off the next day..

We are women and retain Water like crazy.. Ill be gaining around 4lbs in the next few days when I start my monthly cycle.. Don't stress.. 23lbs in 1 month is much more above the 2 lbs per week that is the average!

Thank you all.. It's just a bummer because I have been exercising more this past week so I thought I would have seen a huge jump. My clothes are fitting looser and I can see a difference slightly but it's just a drag that's all. :(

To be blunt, the problem is not with your band, or your exercise, the problem is with your expectations.

Both your Dr. and your Nut are fine with your progress, and it is repeated over and over on LBT that the first 6 weeks is for healing.

One of the hardest things for any of us is our minds/expectations are our worst enemy. Listen to the people with the experience, your Dr. and NUT will let you know when you aren't where you need to be and set you expectations on a 1-2 year journey. That was something my Dr. kept repeating over and over and over and over.

This is our journey, one foot in front of the other.

We have to remind ourselves that this is a lifestyle and not a race or a diet. It is so hard to think that way most days, for me anyway. I want to see the same amazing results other patients are seeing. Don't fret and keep up the great work! Think about the weight you may have gained by not watching your intake, logging your food or working out, etc. xoxo

Jennifer, personal experience for me is that when I exercise a lot, my weight loss stops or slows dramatically. You are building muscle (Looser clothes), retaining Water for muscle repair. I had to skip my spin classes last week and dropped 5 pounds in a couple of days, where I had been stalled the week before. Starting spin back up today, I expect to see a scale increase tomorrow.

Hi Jennifer,

I think you have been on this board enough in the last few months to know this time is for healing. You must be just on solid food now? You know what - you have the band now it’s in. Your journey is just beginning AND you are 23 pounds down. I bet you feel better already? You know about bandster hell, eating the right amount and working out but I think you need to work on your head game a little and realize this is a journey and you are in it for the long haul. Follow the rules you WILL lose but at your own pace. I am a slow looser always have been even with working out like crazy. Settle in for the ride - enjoy it! I am having fun working it all out :)

Hi Jennifer you cutie Pie!

You should be super proud of the weight you have already lost, so soon after surgery. There have been some who gain during this time, not to make light of things. I am sure its frustrating, but keep in mind your body is still in the healing process. Your body still has to adapt. You will find yourself hitting plateaus, and you need to prepare for these things.

Please Please don't compare yourself to others....

Hang in there!

It is very easy for expectations to be high. There is an old school myth that if you have WLS the weight falls off. Sorry to say its not true and I also went through that moment when I was like "OK, I had the surgery why is the weight not falling off".

It sounds like you are doing great. Losing with the band is slow but progressive. I keep a ticker and I go back and look at the tracker to see where I've been and where I'm going. I have given up on expecting big numbers all at once as I can see I am trending downward and for me that is the key. I am trending downward while living a happy and healthy lifestyle and not struggling with another 'diet'.

I am guilty of stepping on the scale far to often as you can see below. At first it was because I was obsessed with losing the weight and then it just became more about accountability.

Weight loss is slow at times but as long is the trend is downward I am happy. I am excited to hit goal and wish it were sooner rather than later. BUT if I sit through the whole journey wishing I were at goal then I'd miss some exciting times along the way because there are a lot of non scale victories. Far too many to list but the latest is my wedding ring not staying on my finger anymore. (my wife is not as thrilled about that)

I gained a pound 2 days ago and that pesky pound is sticking around....there's no way in hell it's fat with what I am eating, so I just have to except that's it's probably Water and keep on keeping on....we all want fast weight loss but the reality is, our bodies are gonna do what they are gonna do, so we have to deal with it and keep going. Best Wishes :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
