March 2013 Surgery Dates?

Recommended Posts

I just decided to do this. March 22 is my date. I'm down 7 lbs in a week pre-op. one lb away from one-Derland, and 79 more to go. I have so much to learn. Can anyone address my concern of Hair loss after surgery? Any other things I should know would be helpful.

My gas pains have gone down tremendously. Here is what I did, I laid flat on my back with no pillow under my head, but with two pillows elevating my hips. Slept like that for a few hours and most of the gas followed there. And then you just have to toot. Kinda gross, but it works, I am moving so much better.

I'm day 3 post op as well and don't have any swelling or bloating except for the main incision site is a little red and swollen.

Thanks I will definitely try that cuz the gas pains suck bad

Honestly..... it was day 5 post op for me to have the bloated feeling reduce and day 6 for the gas related shoulder pain. I took gas x but for me it did nothing. Now day 9 I feel great, except for tightness around my belly button incision. If I get up from the couch too quick it hurts.

Lmao!! My wife would kill me if I farted on/near the pillows.... hahaha

Wednesday is my band-day!!! I am so excited for the official beginning of this new journey!

I'm day 3 post op and I didn't have gas pains at first so I thought I was in the clear. Boy was I wrong! This morning the pains hit. I've taken gas x but can't tell if its working yet. I hope it does and hopefully these shoulder pains don't last long. Very uncomfortable. :(

I am on day 5 and my gas pains are do much better. I did a heating pad and lots if gas x. Sitting and kinda pushing into my gas areas helped move them out. I still have but not painful anymore.

I am post op day 5 and my shoulder pains just started getting worse these last two days. It's frustrating! GasX does not help mine.

Hey y'all! My lap band slipped about 4 mos ago. I was in the process of graduating from college and moving to a new town/state! I had my lapband recited on Monday. The doctor kept me in the hospital over night and kept me on no food or liquids until Tuesday afternoon until about 3. He then put me on a Clear Liquids diet until next Weds 3/20. I'm sure he is just taking extra precautions as to not have it slip again but man it's killing me! I don't think I mentioned but I have had the band since July 09 and went through 3 yrs of college with it! I thought I was a pro but it's like I'm learning everything over again!!

Girl, walk walk walk. It's truly the only thing that helps! Also life your arms above your head as much as you can. Also if you have someone around that can rub your shoulders it will relieve the pain and let you relax a little with everything! :)

I wanted to follow up here then I will move my posts over to the March bandsters! I am 2 weeks post op (band date March 4) and down 15 lbs! I started puréed foods today and had a soft egg and puréed vegetable Soup. They are more filling than the liquids! I didn't feel a hunger pang until day 13 postoperative. Also, I have had virtually no pain and my scars are TINY! Couldn't be happier!

This week will be a test as I travel to a work event for 4 days. That means preparing Protein Shakes in the airport and hotel, finding soup or tuna salad for meals, etc.. Will be a challenge but I'm up for it! Travel advice would be great.

I have found that shaking my Protein shakes instead of blending with ice reduces gas and bloating. So I'll be the lady with a shaker and a ziplock of powder walking around the convention halls :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
