Rate of Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I was banded on 12/17/12 and am curious of what people's rate of weight loss is. I just started my 5th week and have lost 18 lbs, which I am thrilled with, but not sure if I should be losing more each week. I've been walking every day for at least 20 minutes and am only eating 2 oz of Protein 3 times per day. I just thought I would have lost more by now. Thank you for any input.

I was banded 12/12 and I have lost 22lbs. I just had my first fill last Friday. I was kind of thinking the same thing that this is taking too long but slow and steady wins the race! Congrats on your 18 lbs gone!

Most doctors say 1-2 pounds per week so you are ahead of the game! Also how much Protein did your doctor recommend? Mine said 3 oz so 2 seems on the low side.

In general weigh loss slows down once the Water weight is gone. You are doing well. Remember this is a Marathon not a sprint.

Congrats on all of your weightlosses. Please always keep in mind when comparing weight loss everyone is different,. Also those who exercise regulary tend to lose faster. Also what you eat how much and how often can affect your weighloss. How much sodium and processed foods you eat etc. Continued success to you all.

I lost 13 pre op. Was banded 12/19. I lost 8 more the week after surgery, then nothing the 2nd week. It's been about a week and a half since then. It's hard to say bc at dr I had clothes on but I'm guessing another 4-5 based on my scale. Tomorrow I go back to dr, and will find out oficaly. Then onto solids!!!! So only 12 pounds for me ([pst op) unless you count 2 weeks pre op then it's about 25.

The first 2 months I lost fast but then it leveled out... I averaged 10 lbs a month over the course of my journey.

But everyone is different and it sound like you are losing week so congratulations on that!!!

I was banded on the same day and I have lost 12 since surgery. That's neat that we are both around the same place right now.

EveryBODY is different. My new life motto is "play the cards you are dealt." It amazes me how everything differs per patient from pre op diet to post op weight loss.

You are losing and not gaining! That's a win!! We all have different speeds as to how long it takes to lose weight. My doctor wants me to lose no more than 3 pounds per week. Slow and steady over a lonf term. We learn how to eat differenrtly.

Be positive and Best wishes

I was told 2-3 lbs a week. I gained one last time but my surgeon wast concerned because my clothes are looser. He said sometimes when we are exercising out weight redistributes.

DO NOT COMPARE. It will drive you crazy. Mileage may vary, so what is good for you may not be good for another, or may be unreachable by another. Take what you get and move forward. Steady weight loss if the ticket, not how fast or slow you go!

Given the variation due to Water, you may want to get some sort of body-fat monitor. That way you can get a true indication of your important losses without concern for the ebb and flow of how your body deals with hydration.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
