maegan reacted to Anume 937 in Fill In 2 DaysSo i was banded 4/25/12 and i only lost 39lbs I had my first fill of 1 cc almost 2 months ago and I only lost 1/2 lbs since , It's mainly due to stress . So today I started back on a liquid diet just for the rest of this week to get me back on track. Hopefully the scale will move from the 280's to the 270's

maegan got a reaction from ChicagoRose in TeachersIt is great that you are thinking ahead! I know I can't eat breakfast, so I usually have a Protien shake every morning. Lunch just depends. I hVe been back to work after summer for almost a month now. Sometimes I can eat and sometimes I cant. When I can't, I drink a premade meal replacement so i wont get dizzy or weak from low blood sugar. You will be fine!

maegan got a reaction from QueenAnise in When Did They Notice? My daughter was gone for 3 weeks for the summer. I had my surgery right when she left. When I picked her up at the airport she noticed and said I was "all tiny" now! Funny, I am far from tiny and had only lost about 20 lbs from when I saw her!

you are doing so very good. your positive attitude is quite refreshing.
please do not ever get down on yourself. you hold yourself up my dear.
stop comparing yourself to others who are losing faster or more. That is
them......you are you. and you are wonderful.
as for one being our childrens teacher, i thank you for that. for its people
like you who taught my son how to read/write. for that i am most grateful
all the best always.

maegan reacted to Rojasanoll in People Noticed!I went back to work today since Aug 6 band date and it was nice to hear lots of positive comments about my success so far. The neagative people I work with are changing sides to being very positive about what I did. So far total weight before and after surgery is at 46 pounds. I'm leaning the right way.
Keep the faith Banders.

maegan got a reaction from clarks4willie in People Noticed!I am a school teacher and just started my new year. I had surgery 6/14 and am down 32 lbs. I was happy that a couple people at work noticed and said positive things about it! It always helps when I am feeling a little down or feel like I should have tried harder to lose more faster.

maegan reacted to ♕ajtexas♕ in People Noticed! It feels sooooo good when people comment about your weight loss. I love hearing that. Just this weekend my husbands best friend said that I looked great and that I must have lost a lot of weight. Boy did that feel good.

maegan reacted to Thats All Folks in SodasNo one can really say for sure. I'm sure many will say it's no big deal. However, you couldn't pay me to touch carbonation since being banded. My roommate after band surgery was in there for a revision. Her band had not only slipped but her stomach actually prolapsed up through her band- because she drank soda. She also gained 40 lbs because of it.
For me, it's simply not worth the risk.

maegan reacted to Toddy in May Do Low CarbI'm with Mis73. My doctor thinks carbs are the devil. I simply cannot do low carbs! No. 1, it's just not realistic for a lifetime; No. 2, my body just doesn't function well on a low carb diet.
I shoot for roughly 1000 calories; 60 grams protein; no more than 127 carbs and 30 grams fat.
I feel like that is plenty of balance and enough fuel for my body to function at its best.

maegan reacted to JinTx in May Do Low CarbI feel better when i do low carb bc of the simple fact that carbs make me want more carbs. My surgeon does not preach low carb however the nutrionist recommended i go back to low carb then slowly add back in good carbs...whole wheat pasta, brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread....i should be ok with this bc usually the carbs i want are sugar...cookie, cake, etc. I am looking at this as sort of a detox period. So perhaps you could look at it that way if you feel carbs are an issue for you.

maegan reacted to carleyK in Best Breakfast Idea - What Works For You?I put my meat and veggies in a muffin pan. I add eggs that have been mixed with half and half and some spices and pop the pan in the oven at 350 until the "quiches" are done and set.. I can ten freeze them and reheat my breakfast quiches each morning!!!

maegan reacted to caseyp in Random ThoughtSo now that I have been thru all of the pre op business and I understand WLS better, I keep having people from my past pop into my mind. I feel like I actually have known a lot of people that have had some sort of WLS, but I didn't have enough knowledge on the topic to recognize it. While it certainly is none of my business how someone takes the weight off, as a person that has always struggled with my weight, I always wondered why "they" could be successful but I couldn't. Anyway, this personal reflection has caused me to rethink how I'll handle questions. I had initially been very private, but I've been rethinking it all. For me, I've decided I'm just going to be forthcoming about the band. Maybe I can help other people that are struggling know that there is no shame in seeking help. That's all. :-D

I had my pre-op psych eval Monday & he told me of some research that's come out recently.
Every organ in your body communicates with the brain. If you lose more then 1.5-2 pounds per week for a period of 3-6 months, the organs start sending neuro-peptides to the brain saying that you're starving (even if you have 100s of pounds in body fat that you'd like your body to eat).
So even if you're on a good, nutritious, low-cal diet & your bmi is still obese+ ... even with all of that, if you lose 2+ pounds per week for more then 3 months, your brain is going to go into panic mode & start telling you to eat, eat, eat... until you're back to pre-diet weight + 10 pounds. That's the brain getting back to status quo + a buffer for the next starvation period. (Weight Watchers has known this forever, but now the medical community agrees, lol.)
So a balloon that makes you eat significantly less for 6 months & is then removed? Ouch!
I'm rethinking my goals... I had of course planned on doing more then 2 pounds a week. But now it really seems to make sense to go slowly, and explains why other surgeries / diets don't work long term. We've been fighting our body's survival instinct.
Maybe this time I can work WITH my bod instead of against it.
Good luck with your decision!

It would have been GREAT for my doctor to have told me that yesterday.

maegan reacted to Rojasanoll in RegularityWhen I was on Atkins, I had the same problem as you. I purchased Miralax and it worked for me. I'm not banded until Aug 6, but I practiced ahead and I found if you steam veggies and then use blender to puree them it doesn't taste bad and this takes me back to regular.

maegan reacted to 2muchfun in Why All The Waiting?!?I would imagine that patients who rush into banding have a higher rate of fallout and failure than those who move into this slower. And if you plan on getting pregnant 6 months after banding it seems like you should wait till after the birth to be banded. You won't lose much weight before getting pregnant and that 6 months is an important period where you learn so much about how to eat with you band. Won't you have to put your band journey on hold while you are pregnant? It's difficult to eat for two when you can barely eat for one?
Book learning and reading is important but the experience is a whole different ballgame.

maegan reacted to Phranp in Why All The Waiting?!?Audrey, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but ... unless you are one of the truly lucky ones, you won't have had enough fills to even know you have the band in 6 months. You can probably get the surgery sooner if you change doctors (provided your insurance doesn't make you wait and you can get all the tests done in a few weeks). But once you have the band it is a process to get to the "green zone" or "sweet spot". Took me 8 or 9 months to get there.
I would suggest that you read on this site about pregnancy and the band. I believe there's a forum for it.
I saw 4 docs before I found one that would take my insurance. The first doc said I could have the surgery in a couple of weeks ... but ... he wasn't on my insurance so I had to keep looking. You may have heard over and over again that "the lapband is not a magic bullet" ugggghhh ... many get tired of reading/hearing that. Bottom line, it's true, trust me.
I honestly wish you the very best. I hope things work out to your satisfaction. I also hope that you will read everything you can get your hands on about the band - knowlege IS power - that is never more true than when it comes to the band.
