I'm a first grade teacher. I've been back two weeks (one week of inservice and one week with kids). I was doing awesome, in the green zone (after getting a small amount removed). Eating small portions, drinking all my liquids as recommended, etc.. However, now that I am back to work, I am so tight! I know its caused by stress b/c I was doing well before work began.. I had two days where I couldn't eat a bit and had to drink very slow or Water would get stuck :(

My Dr is 3 hours away so I am trying to hold off until my next appt (Sept. 11). How does your band react to the stress? I have a very needy class this year, new principal, 2 of my own kids (ages 4 and 5), hubby is overseas and no family close by.. I was banded March 9th, 2012 so I'm still learning this process.

How does your band react to stress? What do you do to help with stress/band getting tighter? Does stress and tightness seem to calm down eventually as the school year goes?

I received my band on Thursday and will go back to school Tuesday. I'm a little nervous about it, although I'm feeling great today. So far, my recovery has been easy.

Stress will make the band tight. Plus if you had a hard time eating, that could have irritated it. Try doing liquids for 24 hrs, then mushie foods, slowly go back. As long as you can keep Water down and stay hydrated you should be ok to wait to go to your doctor. But if you can't drink you will need to get an unfill now. Good luck.

Wheni'm stressed the band gets super tight.

Maybe some yoga at home in the evening when the kids are in bed? Some warm herbal tea? The warmth will sooth and relax the band (does for me)

When this happens to me, I just ride it out, get my Water and Protein in and enjoy the weight loss

I am not sure about how stress affects the band; I am a teacher and I can relate to your situation. I will say that WARM foods (oatmeal, Soup, etc.) or WARM drinks help me the most. . . . good luck

Thanks! I finally confided in two people at work that I had the surgery done. So its hard to talk around why I can't eat. I've just been telling them, when stressed I can't eat and acid reflux has been bad.

I am an ESE teacher in FL. I can't eat much at work either. The good thing is that I don't have much time!

I teach high school and some days I'm very stressed by lunch time. Thankfully I have a conference period right after lunch, so if I cannot eat during the lunch period I can take some time afterwards. It's also great because if I do run into problems eating, I'm not forced to deal with my students right away...it's crappy being stuck and having to pb in my office trash can while they're in the classroom. :(

Some days it doesn't pay to eat at lunch though.

When I have stress ( working with preschool teachers, parents, and the kids are the easy ones!) you bet my band gets tight! I then have to think about my diet choices. Often deli neat and cheese slices, Soup, cottage cheese with yogurt, etc. really can range on tightness of my band each day...I'm 18 months banded.

I'm worried about this! I go back to work Tuesday and teach K/1 ESL. I have been stuck in school Nd had to have a friend watch my class while I went to the ladies to PB.

I had a lunch/prep back to back last year so I had plenty of time to eat. I don't know what I will have this year. If it is not back to back I will only have 35 minutes from start to end of lunch. That works out to only about 15/20 minutes to eat accounting for travel through building and being ready for next class. :-/

Stress also makes me tighter. I have been stuck on Water and yogurt in the past while stressed. I'm thinking I should keep a bottle of Protein Powder in class just in case.

Another thing I hVe done is keep a premade Protein Shake like Adkins in my office. That way if I can't eat, I just drink and it holds me over til I get off work.

I just started drinking the GNC lean shakes check them out, Meal Replacement and so delicious. Having one for my Breakfast today...curbs my hunger in morning big time, because I have a rough time eating in morning. Band loosens up closer to 11:30 am.

Right now, if I can eat I am eating around 2 oz per meal.. Yesterday, I ate the toppings off 1 pizza slice (cheese, pepperoni) and it got stuck. Then I had reflux for a long time afterwards. The scales aren't moving (yet) even with what little I am getting in.. Guess I will have to stick with the Protein shakes for a while.

I do have to admit that I haven't been good about getting my exercise in the past two weeks. A couple days, I walked outside around the school twice.

This is a big fear of mine as I am a teacher too but I wont let it sway my choice. My plan when I get banded is to eat a Protein rich healthy breakfast AT HOME.....protein shake with a sugar free jello/pudding/applesauce for lunch.....then eat real food again when I get back home. I should be banded around the Holidays so it will only be a few months until summer and I can change up my eating schedule again to better suit. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
