I like Syntrax nectar brand. My favorite is the cappuchino. I put it in my coffee. I also like it in 1% milk. It has 24 grams of Protein and hardly any carbs. It completely disolves. There is Strawberry-Kiwi; Chocolate; Fuzzy Navel; berry, you name it. You can get it at the Vitamin Shoppe or from Amazon. Its a little pricey, but lasts a long time.

Ps. September 29th will be my 1st Banniversary! :P

Ive tried a lot and have been super unsatisfied with all! I just bought some carnation instant Breakfast, I hope that doesn't give the disgusting Protein aftertaste! The only one I've liked from the numerous shakes I tried was GNCs wheybolic chocolate shake. Everything else was disgusting. From boost to pure protein to oh yeah to Unjury to GNC total lean shake. But everyone has different taste buds. What I like, others may dislike. What I dislike, others may like. Isopure gave a bad aftertaste too. However, I could chug a bottle without gagging. It was fruity flavored and not milky. Haha I have tried a lot of different shakes. I've been struggling to find one I like! I hope carnation is good! If you find a good one, please let me know as well! Oh I did love gatorades G3 Protein Shakes, but they are loaded with sugar and can't have them on the pre op diet or any diet....lol :/ yes, I did say love and Protein Shake together though....

Everyone is going to have their own opinions on what they prefer and why.

I'm heavy into weight lifting and use the Optimum nutrition brand from GNC. chocolate Mint is my favorite.

I would suggest trying optifast! I was drinking those for my three week pre-op diet, and they were some of the best Protein Shakes I have ever had. If I didn't drink them for the three weeks before, I would probably be on them right now up until the soft food stage, but I'm giving myself a break & other options so I don't get bored.

I tried sooooo many and the only one I like is EAS advantage! I tried muscle milk, unjury, ensure was good too but the carbs and sugar on that are high, pure Protein, fort fortress, Atkins is okay not enough Protein for me! The first week I was miserable the smell of protein shakes made me gag! On a moment of desperation I made my own smoothie used light soy milk, plain Greek yogurt, frozen berries and haf a scoop of vanilla protein powder!! Good luck

One more bit of information to share...the "gold standard" Protein for bariatric patients is 100% whey isolate. It's important to become a label reader during your journey, as all our foods need to deliver big on good nutrition.

Products like the Atkins shakes, Carnation Instant Breakfast, and Muscle Milk do not have the whey type of Protein in them, as per the instructions from my surgeon. They fall short on the best nutrition for our needs as bariatric patients.

Finding a shake that you like is imperative, as you will periodically need to return to a liquid diet, usually post fill. As others have written, not everyone will have the same tastes.

I have used the GNC Wheybolic Extreme chocolate flavor since day 1...only 1.5 scoops has 30 grams of protein. When mixed with 1%milk you have 37 grams of protein per shake. I like to make them thicker by adding 1 or 2 ice cubes to the blender. I am sensitive to aftertaste and the "chemical" taste, and do not have that with the GNC brand.

Another product which has strong positive reviews is the "Unjury" brand. I have never tried this brand, but it does contain whey protein, and highly recommended by surgeons.

I have tried the Muscle Milk Light (again, need to read the nutritional label...only the light formula meets calorie criteria); thought I was drinking a bottle of chemicals...horrible! I have used the Atkins shakes on occasion while traveling and had no access to a cooler or blender. They tasted pretty good, with no aftertaste, but they don't have all whey protein in them, so for me they are not for everyday use.

Best wishes...

Costco's Premier Protein shake, 11 0z and 30g of Protein. Love the chocolate shake.< /p>

18 each for $24.99 ready to drink. I stick mine in the freezer for 45 minutes and it comes out like a thick smoothie.

Ariel Ortiz and other leading developers of modern gastric banding strongly caution against using Protein Shakes or Soups because the band is not designed to work with Fluid, soft food or crispy (crackers, chips ect) foods. They will go right through without providing saitity at all or for long. A person will consume all those calories and then be hungry. My MD (at a teaching hosptial) also pointed that out. I do keep an Atkins drink with me in case I'm stuck someplace with no decent food choice but the bulk of Protein should be from desne meats/fish. The denser chicken/salmon will stay in the pouch for many hours and is far better quality protein than any drink.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
