Who did your surgery? Check that office to see if they have a group.

I used True Results Houston and they have a group that meets the last Tuesday of each month. I also met up with some ladies that are all south of Houston. We meet once a month in Alvin. That group has people that have had all kinds of weight loss surgery, not just the band.

I've also heard that there is a group from obesity help that meets near Baybrook Mall on Saturday mornings, but I don't have info on that one.

Good luck!! Join me if you're in the clear lake area.

I have been wondering the same thing. I am getting my band next week..April 26...through True Results. I understand they have support group, but I live in Katy, work in Fort Bend ISD, and have a 3 year old that I need to pick up before 6:00--so that group just doesn't work for me.

I was hoping to find Houston area support either in person or here on this site. Please let me know if you know of any support groups in and around the West Houston area.

Ladies, feel free to email me anytime.

kittyforet@yahoo.com

I'd be willing to find a somewhat central location and meet up sometime. Maybe a Starbucks or something near the Galleria? Anyone have any other ideas? I mainly stay south of Downtown but would be willing to travel a little if everyone wanted to meet up.

Ok I just came in from the above Support Group Meeting. I walked in and sat down by someone and after a few minutes of talking to some of the others I turned to a woman and said I do not think I have met you have I? Well it was someone banded who has been to the meeting before and who is active on these boards and I have talked to here before and invited to the meeting before. She had not been to a meeting in a couple of months . . .

She looked like a totally different person. Her weight loss had really changed her looks. I felt so bad at first that I did not recognize her. But is was due to her hard work at losing weight. I won't embarrass her by saying her name, but she knows who she is. You look great!!

So you who think people can't tell the difference when your losing weight, maybe they don't say anything because you are working so hard losng weight that people just don't know it is you!

Cheri,

Warmed my heart :) !!!!!!!!

You're right, you go along thinking you're not making it work but you dont see yourself the way others do.

The other day I was at the skating rink for my sons birthday and I put on skates for the first time in at least 10 years, if not more!! I made it once around but have very weak ankles plus I did spin class the day before and legs were screaming. But I skated slowly for a few minutes, which is something I wouldn't have done if I hadn't lost weight!! My goal is this time next year to be able to skate gracefully for at least 30 minutes!!!! (this time was anything but graceful but I managed to stay upright the entire time!!)

As I was "skating" towards our table, my mom looked right past me (it was a little dark) and when I said something she looked at me and said I didn't realize it was you, your posture, body shape and outline was not what I recognized. So even if I'm struggling with my weight and image, I've changed in other peoples eyes.

I'm a little nervous but excited too, as I go to a conference today with my former boss, who doesn't know I've had WLS and who I haven't seen in 2 years (surgery a year ago). Anxious to see what she says... Even though I don't think I've lost anything since school let out in Early June, I saw the secretaries at work yesterday and they even commented...my body shape is changing even if the scale doesn't!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
