Aemh - I had a similarly bad experience with my psych appt. he remanded me to counsleing with a counselor I saw years ago. we sent 5 or 6 sessions talking about TV shows, the weather, etc. - All of which i had to pay co-insurance and the insurance paid for .... hoops hoops hoops to jump through!

this is just awful.. and what a setback to have someone who is so out of touch being in that position of authority over your surgery. im sorry. i hope it all works out well for you really quickly. its bad enough going through all the leadups without this rubbish. it seems that everyone is in it taking advantage of anothers plight and making money out of it. thats how i feel about the lot of them.

Im just so lucky. i didnt have to have any sort of evaluation at all. i just see the anaesthetics people, talk to a dietician and get my bloods done. When i saw my specialist yesterday i was weighed and my height measured. in the drs office, when it as appropriate i just pulled my trousers down below my knees and the dr could see all the huge scars . i think that was enough to convince him that something needed to be done. im just not sure if some patients here are expected to get an all clear from a councillor or not. i only know that im cleared to go ahead. i feel so much for those of you who have been '' hauled through the hoops"'... you dont need that.

Steph glad things went well for you today. LOL at the 6 month request...too funny! Hope you enjoyed the dinner!! Sounds yummy! I officially start pre-op tomorrow...so here I go! It will suck if the ins approval doesn't come through in time. lol Hope everything goes wonderfully tomorrow and you have a 5 star recovery!! Will be thinking of you!!

Judy - They were talking about starting a Facebook page with a different email so friends from here and those who know of your surgery are the only ones who can see it. I wouldn't use my current one since I've not told many people other than my best friends and some family.

I will be banded on March 14 at 7:30 a.m. at Central DuPage Hospital. I cannot wait, I have started the pre op diet and I am only down 7 lbs though. So a week from yesterday is the day! I am so excited and happy and kinda like ahhh! It is finally happening. I was approved by BCBS in less than 24 hours. I am only 23 years old as well, so we thought that was going to be an issue. I wonder how much weight I will lose in the first month...hmmm only time will tell. Wish me luck!

Judy, many things could have happened. Had the infection been treated, this woman most likely would have been fine. Infection is a risk for any surgery, and its not usually fatal if its managed appropriately. We don't know her history... In order for an infection to cause multi organ failure she must have been septic, meaning the infection got in to her blood. I would not be shocked to find out that this woman had a condition that caused a depressed immune system. Perhaps she had a latent infection prior to surgey... It seems that had the discharge MD used common sense, she would be alive today...the nurses also should have taken a stand on discharging a patient with unstable vital signs. Infection will generally manifest itself with symptoms suck as fever and elevated heart rate. Post op just be sure to report any symptoms, and if they are persist just make sure you are heard. Make sure you are literate in the terminology used and understand all the risks of this surgery. Be an advocate for yourself. Having been a nurse for 15 years I've seen Even the most excellent surgeons have unexpected complications. I don't feel that the lap band killed this woman, a treatable condition did it seems...

....gingerwale you are so right. I did talk with the surgeon about it all and he was very candid and open with me. he told me that she was insisting on leaving... her mother was on the phone about leaving. she was morbidly obese and often the symtoms that she exhibited display a lung infection. the staff rang the dr while he was already treating another patient which put him in an awkward position. the staff should have been more assertive. it seems that everyone just gave in and caved in to the womans requests and demands that she be allowed to go home. This surgeon introduced lap banding surgery to this state and he has done 16,000 of them. I saw him on the news tonight as he was the last to give evidence. i do hope that the truth comes out as it really is, not unbalanced as it too often is. It certainly hasnt rattled my confidence in him as a surgeon. thats for sure. i hope he comes out of this o.k. whatever wasnt done im sure will be rectified very quickly, to be sure. in fact the death was 12 months ago, so there would be proper protocols in place now to make sure this doesnt happen again. Out of 16,000 lapband surgeries he hasnt had any mortalities, apart from this one.

5:45am 3/8/2012

Well I'm on my way! I have to be there at 7:00 and going in at 8:00-8:15. I will post and let everyone know how it went once I'm able to keep my eyes open and able to type! LOL! Looking forward to the happy cocktail that I was told about. Which I made note of. It makes to say things you normally wouldn't say! ;)

Please send prayers!

~Steph

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
