Okay, this is a silly question but for those of you that are post-op and still on the liquid diets is there something that you can't wait to eat when you get on the pureed/mushies part? I am craving refried beans! It is the weirdest thing but that just sounds so good. I go to my post op on Tuesday so I am hoping to advance them so I can have some, lol. Just a silly question :)

nice, fluffy scrambled eggs, cheese, cottage cheese

I totally get the refried Beans craving - that is the worst of my cravings. I'm getting excited for things I know I can have - like scrambled eggs, and tuna fish of all things. I don't even like tuna fish - but just thinking about it can make my mouth water! My parents came to check on me the other day, and I told them I how badly I wanted refried Beans, so yesterday my dad made a big pot of bean Soup and pureed it for me. I was a little worried about the gas - but it actually made me feel a little better. It was soooo good I can't wait to have more when I get home tonight!! I've also cheated a bit, and have gone on the low fat cottage cheese already because I just was not getting enough Protein and I can not bring myself to drink another Protein shake ever again. I just make sure it's mashed up really well and drink Water with it when I swallow. My cousin had her lapband a year ago, and she made that suggestion to me. She was eating hamburgers within days of surgery and had no problems, so I figured a little cottage cheese could not be that bad.

I hope everyone is having a good day and that those who have recently been banded are recovering well. Today is day 3 since being banded. I slept in the bed last night versus sleeping in the recliner. I slept with a pillow on my tummy to prevent the cats from jumping there as they are inclined to do especially when they think it's time to get up. :) Pain is getting better. The more I move the better it gets.

My doctor has me on a 3 week post op liquid diet. It seems the diet preferences of each doctor vary. I get a little hungry between meals but it is bearable. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and hope I will be getting my first fill.

I have been having a lot of food cravings as well. I really want a cheeseburger. I have been thinking about where to go for recipes once I graduate to regular foods. Does anone have any suggestions or know of a good site for recipes?

There are a lot of good suggestions on the food section here on lap band talks. There is also a book 'Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies' that has tons of good recipes in it. Take care!

I found a site for weight loss recipes. It is www.skinnytaste.com!! They also list the serving size, with calories, fat and Protein, which helps. I started the pre-surg diet today so a cheeseburger sounds delicious. But I will stick to Protein Shakes and raw veggies--cheeseburger still sounds better-lol.;) Glad you are feeling better!

Didn't they give you a Protein range? Calorie limits? Fluids goal? Did they tell you to buy high Protein Drink mixes because there are some that are lower and higher in carbs. I have a 16oz Protein Drink each morning - tastes like chocolate milk (using FatFree Milk) - I use 2 scoops totaling 48g Protein so I know I get it in early. Then I do a Protein drink in the afternoon to evening - trying 16 oz with 2 scoops of Nector Fuzzy Navel with 24g Protein. The rest is Water, Jello, frozen Popsicles. No hunger pains since my surgery 9 days ago. The main reason to get the Proteins of 60-80 grams per day is so you will burn fat and not loose hair. You can put unflavored protein in a soup but put it in cold and slowly heat it up. Maybe the unflavored could be good alternative for you?

Yes. Protein powders have to be 25-26g of protein per 1 scoop. They want the patients to get 60g protein per day with having the 3 shakes. Which protein do you use?

thanks for the advice on the unflavored...that's a great idea cuz the chocolate and vanilla are making me sick already. Just had some pudding.< /p>

I just got my Weight Loss Cookbook for Dummies from Amazon today. I am excited to read it and it even has a few recipes for the pureed/super soft food stage I am in. Yay!

Got a Magic Bullet at Bed, Bath and Beyond today and I hope this thing works to puree some foods and that the Protein smoothies you can make with it are good.

Thanks for the info on the Magic Bullet - I wondered about them! I do have a regular blender and a juicer. Is the Magic Bullet better?

Make sure they are the Gas X strips and I wouldn't worry too much about getting fruits and veggies yet. It will be a little while before you can have those and they will probably go bad before you can have them. I would think the hospital will give you pain meds but my dr. didn't give me any rx for nausea meds once I left the hospital so you may want to check if they will give you some for once you get home. I know I could have used some at home. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your advice!

I really appreciate it! esp. since i always think of new questions as soon as i'm out of the dr's office!

laugh.gifrolleyes.gif

Is there anything i should ask them at my appointment tomorrow?

besides specifics for Rx and other Meds

Food/liquid stages?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
