Thank you so much.. I am doing well now but I went to the gym Tuesday night and It hurt to even walk on the treadmill. The deep breathing in my chest was painful!! I still was sore yesterday so I stayed on liquids and mush and today back on solids. I have always been a fast eater and I have to really remind myself to slow down and chew chew chew. I have slowed down a lot already but with the last fill I have to be even more cautious. I never realized how painful stuck episodes were going to be.. I guess that will teach me to slow it down and stop shoveling my food :)

Thanks for the tums trick too.. My first instinct is always to try and drink something, I am sure I just make it worse.

I am really focusing on eating slowly and chewing well. I have had a tendency to rush through eating 'cause I am always in a hurry. Time to S L O W down, lol.

Hi Everyone!

I am back from Vegas and I think I may have even lost a pound or two! I just logged everything I ate in my online food diary (really slooooowwww internet access in the hotel) and I am shocked by how many calories I consumed eating at fine dining restaurants. It is a really good think we walked so much and my net calorie intake wasn't too bad.

One of the girls I went with also has a lapband and she is 5 years out. She had quite a few stuck episodes - I felt really bad for her, but also prayed that I don't have as much senstivity to what I can/can't eat as she does.

Well, I am off to bed to try to catch up on some sleep. I even skipped my monthly support meeting tonight - between just getting home and semi-blizzard conditions here, it just seemed like a good idea. Plus, I am not sure I would win Mother of the Year award if I just got home from Las Vegas and turned around and left for the evening, even for the support group. It is the first one I missed since surgery.

I go for my first fill next Thursday. Hopefully, I can lose another pound or two!

Night!

Glad you had fun in Vegas and managed to lose, too!

Getting stuck is the worst and after a couple stuck episodes, you basically are conscientious about it from then on so you force yourself to eat small bites, chew really well and know what you are eating. Getting stuck is a pretty big deterrent in my mind, it's not something I enjoy so I try to take lots of precautions to avoid it.

Sometimes I'll even take a few sips of warm Water before I eat anything questionable

I will try the warm water before eating anything questionable, thanks for the tip. My doctor says to drink warm water each morning before having anything else.

Gosh I'm so grateful I have no stuck problems!

Today i'm .1lbs from 40lbs down haha scale couldn't give me the satisfaction this morning I guess laugh.gif

Yeah Heather!

Hi guys. Just getting back on the forum again and was reading through the last months posts. Everybody looks to be doing great. Go December Bandsters!!!

Isn't it amazing how different doctors approach the fills. I didn't realize the amounts of fills could vary so much. I've had 2 fills for a total of 2.8 in an 11cc band. My last fill was 2/14 and just this week really started feeling the restriction--like most others have said, it's when I've eaten too fast/not chewed well. I'm still getting hungry about every 2 hours though. I have noticed more hungar on the days I drink caffenated coffee so I've switched to Decaf. Better for Fluid totals anyway as getting my fluid is problematic for me. When you eat every 2 hours and can't drink for 30 minutes after it doesn't leave a lot of time for drinking. Add a fluid deficit due to the caffenated coffee and it's even more difficult.

Heather--you asked a while back about Snacks. I keep ZonePerfect Protein Bars on hand and eat one of those when I need a snack or the greek yogurt others have mentioned. The Protein bars are pretty good for a chocolate fix and have 12 grams of protein. I'm having trouble keeping my kids out of them so it can't be just my chocolate starved palate!!! lol

I have to hide some of my foods from my son and husband. I am only now feeling restriction after my second fill, too. I go in for my third fill on Friday.

I am 1# away from a total of 20#'s lost since I started the preop diet. Slower than most of you, or all of you!, but I'll take it. Better than I would do with out my band.

TTYL, Joan

You are doing great Becky! You are right where I was about a week ago...I just passed my 50 lb mark and just had my first fill last week - I was still losing but getting hungy about 2 hours after eating so they recommended a fill. I can't say that I feel much difference restriction-wise, but I am back to where I was before with being able to go 4 hours between meals without being hungry.

Keep up the great work!!!:bananapartyhat:

I think I'm going to try going lower carb next week, anyone else do that? I think I'm getting a little lazy, I want to get my diet back in check.

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later...I PB'd for the first time tonight on some salmon left over from dinner last night. It was my own fault...I had just cooled down from working out for an hour and I was so hungry that I didn't chew it thoroughly. I haven't been as careful as I should with the chewing but I guess now that I have had a fill I need to pay more attention. Lesson learned!

Hello,

I had my third fill last week and am thinking I might be in the green zone/sweet spot. I have lost a couple pounds since the fill, yeah!

I will be flying on Saturday so I'll be extra cautious of what and how I eat while in the air since most peoples bands are tighter.

Keep up the good work! Joan

Well, December Banders, I'm bringing your stats down. I lost 19 pounds 12 days out from surgery and haven't lost anymore weight since. I have lost a lot of inches and can't wear some of my clothes anymore, but no more pounds. I take ownership for it, because it took me a while to start exercising (I had a lot of port pain). And then I was suffering from bronchitis for two weeks.

But anyway, I think I'm finally ready to get on track. I started working out this week and I scheduled a fill on March 24. I have no restriction at all. It's hard to believe that after all of this I feel like I could eat anything. ( I don't...but I bet I could)

So anyway. I just want to say that you guys are doing an awesome job!!! Hopefully I can join the victory side, soon.:(

hi everyone!

checking in with the December bandsters.

I went for a check up today and I'm down another 8 pounds. Yea!! I started going to a spin class and it's a fantastic workout ...I love it!

We were on the fence about giving me a fill but after talking with Rachel we decided that a teeny tiny bit might give me a better handle on portion size. It seems to take me a bit more to feel satisfied. I hope this makes a difference, because I really think I'm getting close to my sweet spot.

Can't wait for the warmer weather to come next week, so I can get outside!!

I want to check in too. Weight loss has been a bit slow for me. Per my tracker I've lost 25.8 lb, 9.6 was pre op and 9.2 the week post op. Though I've been going to the gym and started kickboxing last week (very fun!). I went to the gym 4 days last week and kickboxing 3 days, (2 days I did both) so I did have 2 days off. So I didn't lose last week, but I believe it was because I ramped up the exercise. I hope my body evens it out this week and I lose. When I went for my fill they did not want to give it to me, since I am losing (albeit slowly).

I am having trouble with food at work, but do well when not there. Need to work on the work situation.

Jess, good job, getting started with exercise is the hardest part. I feel I've leveled out a bit to losing 1.5-2.5 lbs a week since my fill up to 5cc. I guess I'm happy with that, but who doesn't want to lose a bunch of weight??

Hello Everyone!

Just a quick check in. I haven't had time to be online or read everyones comments but what I have read is fantastic. Everyone is doing a great job.

After my first fill back in Jan, I lost 5 kilos almost immediately and then nothing for the next month-6weeks. My Dr agreed to a second fill and added another 2cc's. I was in so much pain in my back and couldn't even sip Water. So he removed .5cc's and I was fine again. (I'm at 5.5cc's in total now)

I have really good restriction now and have had many stuck episodes like others from eating too fast sad.gif. I've lost nearly another 5 kilos with this fill and this time it feels different and much tighter so I am hopeful that I will continue to lose the recommended .5-1 kg per week and not need another fill for a long time.

I'm really happy with my weight loss so far and so is the Dr. but of course I want MORE! :) I need to start exercising properly. I'm only exercising by walking to the local Mall to buy smaller clothes- I need to join the gym!

Keep up the great work and I'll try to get online more often to see everyones great results and to remember I'm not alone in this journey.

Yay! I'm flying tomorrow too. and I have my period :-/ ugh though I could use some tightness, I've been eating too much. This is my 2nd vacation this week.

Yea, I'm losing about the same, I'm happy with that. I just HATE exercise, I don't think I will ever enjoy it! Ick.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
