Question for all of you recently banded....

In the first couple days after your surgery, what did you find you liked best to drink (or eat if you're allowed)??

I need to go to the grocery store and stock up! My surgery is in 2 days.....

I totally agree with every word you just posted.

Don't feel bad I had the same problem with my surgeons office staff.

They treated me like I was begging for a free surgery or something and I didn't appreciate it at all.

I talked to my surgeon today about it and he apologized. I too just got a handout about the pre-op diet and what to do when I get home. I have seen some people get binders full of info, free dishes to portion their food and all other stuff.

That's alright their attitude has made me more determined to make my goal ASAP and make them beg me to go to their support group to help others. I'm going to be their star patient whether they acknowledge it or not .

That is just how I feel about it. Their poor attitudes have only caused me to be more determined with my band. They are the very reason people feel uncomfortable talking about the band, being banded ect. I really would have changed Dr's if I had had a choice with my insurance ( long story lol ) It's ok I have learned sooo much on this website and feel like I will have all the support I need right here with our August Rush thread :tongue2:

Good Luck to all the RUSHERS!!

Water (room temp), juice (usually have 1 glass a day) don't want to waste empty calories, and crystal light. I've had a couple of Protein Drinks also, since I was able to go to full liquids on day 3.

OMG guys- last night I let out the MOTHER of all burps and it felt sooooo good! I was having some pretty bad gas pain in my shoulder and took the gas-x strips and then about 30 minutes later I got some sweet relief!

I made the mistake last night of trying to lay on my side and that hurt pretty badly so I took my pain meds about 20 minutes early and then laid on my back until I fell asleep. I dont think I moved all night!

This morning woke up feeling pretty good until I started coughing- I have mucous in my throat Im guessing from surgery yesterday because I didnt have it going it. So that made my incisions hurt so I took my pain meds and all is well. Im not hungry at all- just a little thirsty so Im sipping on some diet green tea. The worst part for me is not being able to shower until tomorrow- my hair gets so oily and it drives me nuts! LOL!

Well, Rushers, I had my pre-op appt. yesterday, and I learned an interesting tid-bit from my nutritionist. She said that a minimum of 800 cals are needed daily post-op to avoid starvation mode. She said for most people this is hard to do and she sees a lot of people not eating enough!

Since my surgery is tomorrow (YAY!!!!!!) I plan to calculate out a minimum amount of fluids I need to take in each day, such as 3 Protein Shakes, 2 glasses of juice, 1 can of broth, etc. I think if I have a minimum amount in mind, I'll be more comfortable eating freely. Otherwise I'll be second guessing every bite I take in.

You know....this clear liquid diet is for the birds. Especially with co-workers eating french fries and my hubby eating a yummy sub for lunch. My broth is just not cutting it right now. And my 3yr old had a french fry in his hand and he touched my mouth with his greasy hand and oh man the taste! But I've stuck to the liquid diet today and by this time tomorrow I will be banded! I cant wait for it to be over with and finally start getting down to business of getting skinny!

where did you get your lap band thingi? "i can do it"?

Hello August Rushers.....well, I am amongst the banded. It went smooth no pain, (except what was to be expected).I am now on the straw diet! Anything i can get through a straw, I can have! Oh and it really doesn't matter how big the straw is.........well I have some pretty big straws in my house..lol! My big craving is one egg, scrambed with mayonaise and mustard (very low carb). I did take my Vitamins this morning and did not have to break them in half or anything like that. Still kinda tired and am on pain medicine whoooo, whoooo (makes me loopy)

Will fill you in on more later....

HAPPILY BANDED 8/3/2010:thumbup:

This is very interesting to me. My doctor wanted me to go on the HMR 500 calorie diet Pre Op (which consists of 5, 100 calorie shakes per day). I ended up having an allergic reaction to them so I stopped. While I have a desk job (read sedentary) I do an hour of cardio a day. I told him I thought that would not be enough calories for me to work (job requires me to remember a lot of details, negociate salaries etc, I work in HR) and continue to exercise. Yes I know I have a lot of fat for my body to burn. The brain however burns carbs not fat.

FYI I did that diet for 5 days and did not loose any weight. When I went back to my own diet I resumed my weight loss.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
