Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I don't have a date yet but paperwork was submitted this week for approval. I am hoping things go well and I'll be banded in September.

Looking for others who will be banded in September 2010.

Please chime in.

Hi KAS1971,

Congratulations on your date.

I hope to be able to announce a date soon. It' seems that I hit a couple of speed bumps along the way but I guess I am just anxious. Paperwork was suppose to be submitted last Friday (but there was an office mishap) then was told they would submit first thing Monday morning and today I find out that it still was not submitted. Seems that only 1 person in the office does that job and she was off Monday and Tuesday. So hopefully will have something positive to report in a couple of weeks.

How long after you got your approval did you wait for a date?

When did you start this process? I started in February.

Nice to meet you and hopefully we will have a lot to talk about in the near future.

Cathy

I started with a seminar in Dec. 2009. Techinically I havn't been approved yet but am eligible to submit for approval mid Aug when I finish my 6 months of I Can Change thru Tufts. I have spoken to the CM and the I Can Change Program girl and no one sees an issue. They said approval is less then 2 weeks from submission so the Doc went ahead & booked the date last month since I have to give work approx. a months notice

I am also awaiting insurance approval. I plan to be banded in September even if I have to pay for it myself. Enough is enough.:scared2:

I hope to be banded in September. I have my last appt with PCP this Friday, then packet will be ready to send for insurance. Hopefully Cigna will not drag their feet. I am not taking clients for my business for the end of Sept and early Oct. in hopes that I will be able to have surgery by mid Setp.

I hope to e able to join this group. I am still doing pre op stuff, but will be done by the end of August. I can't submit anything to my insurance until after the 1st of September though, because my company is changing plans on the first, so I have to wait for that and then submit everything to the new insurance.

I'm so mad with my doctor. Yesterday I was told that once I get approved, the doctor will review my file and then will sign off on it, he will then give it to the "surgery scheduler" to call me to come in and set a surgery date. She said this process takes 3 weeks. 3 weeks----what a joke, just to get a date.

Once I get my appointment to come in and visit with the surgeon, I'm looking at another 4 weeks before surgery. So at the earliest, I am the end of September.

I'm just so jealous of you guys that already have surgery dates. Maybe I am expecting too much from them.

Did anyone else have to wait several weeks after they got approved before the doctor set your surgery date?

Hi Leeblewb,

Mine package was just submitted this week to Cigna. Post your updates about Cigna's responses and I'll do the same.

Good luck.

The insurance coordinator at my doctor's office gave me the date before she submitted the insurance paperwork. I am scheduled for September 13 and she is going to submit the papers to insurance next week.

I have been really lucky in that my insurance doesn't require anything. No 6 month diet. No weight history. Luckily for me my BMI is well over 40, so I am not too worried about approval. Who knew that being super fat would EVER be an advantage in something?

Hi Lillyegg,

You are soooo lucky that you don't have to jump through a thousand hoops. Congratulations on your date and keep us informed on your approval.

Good luck.

Well looks like I had a crushing blow today and I will not be able to have my surgery in September. AFter a month ago the surgeon saying my WW wight history was acceptable for the 6 month weight loss. I get a call today saying it is not sufficient. So now I have to wait 4 more months to even submit for approval :(

I have my last supervised diet visit on 8/12. I hope Cigna doesn't take to long to approve my surgery. I'm hoping and praying to be banded in September.

This has been the longest 6 months of my life!!!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
