Thanks everyone for posting your experiences! It's so helpful. Mostly it's the fear of the unknown. I'm getting banded this Monday, June 14th. Not nervous, just not looking forward to the recovery process. . .blech. I'll post my experience and maybe that will help someone too!

Onward and downward. . :frown:

I was banded June 10th. Showed up at hospital at 7:30. Pre-op around 8:00am – answered a bunch of questions, changed into the hospital gown, they started my IV, gave me Reglan & Zantac thru the IV. Anesthesiologist came in around 9:05 – gave me his “cocktail” then I was taken back to the OR – last time I looked at the clock it was 9:10 – remember being moved to OR table but nothing else until I was being wheeled into the recovery room around 10:30.

In my room a little after 11:00am. At this point I didn’t have any pain but just felt really sleepy. I have 5 small incisions. I also had an “On-Q” pain control device - basically looked like a drain attached but it is filled with medication that continuously flows to port area to control pain. Immediately, I was started on my liquids. I was to drink 2 ounce of juice or broth every hour – Water and/or ice chips in between – no limit on the water/ice, I could have as much as I tolerated.

Got out of bed for bathroom and to walk around 3:00 – I was lucky, I never had any nausea or dizziness and really no pain except for the gas pains that would come and go. I was so afraid of the gas pains that I got out of my bed just about every hour and walked the halls for about 5 minutes.

I didn’t sleep well that night – just could not get comfortable. I was up till 1am, finally dozed off for a few hours, woke up around 3:45am and could not go back to sleep. I was really tired the next day. Xray came around 8:30am – had to take a few drinks of contrast while they took a few views. The contrast was horrible – worse than the barium I had taken for my pre-op Upper GI.

I was discharged around 2:30pm. Came home, showered and went to bed – I was so tired. I went home with my “On-Q” pain control device – doc said I could just removed it when the bulb was empty – should be empty by tonight. He also gave me prescription for Lortab. I really haven’t had any pain – Im just sore. It is difficult to get in/out of flat bed – I had to pile my pillows up to make a wedge – I could not tolerate laying flat on my back.

I am to continue my Clear Liquids today – 2 ounces every hour with at much water/ice as I can tolerate. I can start Full liquids tomorrow – doc told me to take it slow and if I could not tolerate my Protein shake to go back to Clear Liquids for another day. I do not have any pain – just feel really bloated & I’m really thirsty – my mouth is really dry.

Wishing Good Luck to the rest of the June Bandsters!

Hi Everyone! I got banded on June 8 by Dr Davey in Edmonton Alberta Canada. Surgery went well; woke to the anaesthesiologist saying 'wakey, wakey'. Only drawback to surgery was a very dry throat from the breathing tube and was only allowed to suck on a water-soaked sponge. All has gone very well on my liquid diet - I am taking Protein powder shakes, Ensure, as well as clear Soups and lots of juices.

My only side affect has been terrible, terrible cramping and diarrhoea - almost flu like but I don't feel nauseous. I've been drinking gastrolite to help with that before I go to bed. If it continues one more day, I'm going to see the doctor.

Best of luck to you all!

I had my surgery on Wed. June 9th and all went well. I came home around 12:30 on Thursday. I started having a fever in the evening and it broke some time in the night. I felt a lot better on Friday, even trimmed roses and perennials in my garden. I am on all liquids, Protein and otherwise. I am still having pain in my shoulders and there is some pain in the large insision (one inch) 4 other insisions 1/4 inches each. Took a shower this morning, did it feel good. I had lost 12 pounds on the presurgery diet, but my weight went back up with the surgery. Now can wait for more to come off. I an not hungrey and not having a problem with getting my protein and liquids down. See the dr next Thursday. Can't drive for two weeks, lots of laying around. Congradulations on all the new bandsters. Mine is this Thursday and I'm a little anxious but at least I followed my liquid diet almost perfectly yesterday. I had some croutons in my broth and one olive....I guess I can live with that. Didn't do so good the first week but I didn't get crazy with a bunch of extra calories until Friday when I went out to eat(me and hubbby shared a dinner) and was pretty good then but I had this big cookie with icecream and some fried zucchini for the appetizer...oh well really going to do good this week...wishing you all well this week

got my band on friday the 11th. doing pretty well. i had really bad gas pains for the first couple of days. they said the air bubble was the size of a small melon on the x-ray. its starting to get a little better now. i've been walking and walking and walking some more. i haven't had any hunger at all so it has been a chore to get down all the fluids. just glad the hardest part is over.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
