Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band surgery on May 3 and despite my normal problems after anesthesia I'm feeling pretty good. I slept well last night. I even got to lay a bit on my side last night in bed! Whoohoo! I take a pain pill about 2-3 times a day. The pain isn't bad. I'm on Clear Liquids and having no problems getting in 48 ounces a day but trying to get 64 is tough. I'm taking walks and all is well here. Those of you that are waiting for surgery-- don't fret. You will be fine. :)

Iwokeupfat - it sounds like everything went smoothly! So far, so well, for all of the May bandsters, I think! :)

I get banded on Tuesday the 11th. I thought it would never get here, now I am a little nervous. It is the right decision for me. The pre op diet isn't bad. I love the Adkins chocolate shakes. I have always hated Vitamins, therefore not taking any until now. The chewable centrum's are not bad at all. I have already started feeling better and have lost 6 lbs.

Good luck to everybody.

You'll be fine. Try not to stress. I was a bit stressed because I didn't get the approval from my insurance company until the Thursday afternoon before my Monday morning surgery! lol.. I didn't have to do a pre op diet. Just had to eat light two days before surgery. It's been 5 days since my LAP-BAND® procedure and I'm doing great. You'll do great, too! Just think of those pounds that will be dropping off and how much better you'll feel. For me... it's getting the weight off of my knees. I'm in and out of a truck all day long and it was really starting to get to my screaming knees. Good luck.. you'll do great!:)

I can hardly keep anything down without feeling like I just ate a horse! I am definately not getting enough fluids in then. Half a jar of Isopur pre-mix and maybe half a bottled Water. I just get to the point where I feel like I just cant hold anything in there. Is that normal? OR should I just keep packing it down slowly?

Dblex- When did you have your surgery? I had mine on May 3. They told me to just keep sipping very slowly... like about 2 ounces and hour and only clear. Maybe you are drinking too quickly? The clear liquid should be able to pass through to keep you hydrated.

Surgery on may 5th, but I can do the 2 ounces an hour, but after so long, it feels like I have no more room!! Maybe I just need to be sipping all day no matter what. As for clears, oh yeah, nothing but clear fluids. :)

Dblex - I had my surgery on the fifth, too. :) I been doing mainly clear liquids, and have just made a homemade veggie lentil Soup, and added a can of ff evaporated milk to it, and strained it very well. I can have a few sips, and then feel full. Otherwise, I've just been sipping all day. :o

May 12th is coming so fast! Has anyone else felt like running the other way just a few days before? Now my hubby is asking me every five minutes if I will just cancel which is only making my running the other way desire more intense. Please someone tell me that you have felt this way. I can't stop worrying now about my decision! Also, I have a question I have been wondering about...will these bands eventually have to be replaced in 10 or 15 years just due to normal wear? Thanks for any info. :)

My band date is the 12th. I have been having a whole lot of emotions. Today I woke up and have been very emotional every time I think about surgery. I am questioning my decision every minute today. My husband isn't asking me to cancel but he is still offering me food and I am on the pre-op. He needs to get a grip and stop that. I have to keep telling myself that I am doing the right thing and it will all work out but my husband needs to get on board too. I read somewhere that the person who invented it also has it or it was the 1st person to get one and he still uses his. Even if it needed to be replaced, after 10 years I would hope I didn't need it anymore since by then eating small meals would be a lifelong habit. On the other hand, I would rather replace it than have gastric where my insides were rearranged.

Don't get scared guys, I think this pre-op diet just makes us more emotional because we have been deprived of real food. I mean, Thursday night I started crying while watching Survivor because I thought Rupert was about to get voted off the island. :o

So just hold yourselves together for a little longer, your surgery will be here sooner than you think. :)

Hahaha my husband said I was going a little crazy with PMS and no carbs. I was in one of those moods and I said "I just want some chocolate!" But he's been really good with me.

My surgery date is May 5, I am pretty nervous... good luck to all.

How are you doing? I got banded the day after you (May 6th). Have you had any problems with gas pain?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
