Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

May 12th is coming so fast! Has anyone else felt like running the other way just a few days before? Now my hubby is asking me every five minutes if I will just cancel which is only making my running the other way desire more intense. Please someone tell me that you have felt this way. I can't stop worrying now about my decision! Also, I have a question I have been wondering about...will these bands eventually have to be replaced in 10 or 15 years just due to normal wear? Thanks for any info.

I feel the same way. I really started to second guess myself as I did my weekly grocery shopping. I did good with my purchases. I have surgery on Thursday (May 13) and am a getting very very nervous. My husband is trying to be supportive but I am almost scared to death. Is this normal?

I was banded 6 May - some soreness, mostly near the port. Am going back to work in the morning - desk job - nothing physically strenous.

I think all of the anxiety and worry is very normal. I had mine a few days ago after I saw I lost 12lbs on the pre-op diet. I started to wonder if I could do it on my own. I may be able to, but in the long run, I know I wouldn't. I'd do good for a few months and then go back to my old ways of eating whatever I see. Hand to mouth disease, as my dr. calls it.

I get banded tomorrow at 7:45AM so I am excited! Worried still, but excited.

Good luck to everyone!

I asked my Dr. how long the band would last and if it would have to be replaced. His reply was "it will outlast you". I am 52!

I am also to be banded on the 12th. I have been on so many diets and lost and then slowly or not so slowly regained it. I think about that when ever I start to wonder if this is the right thing for me. This site has helped alot. Try reading some of the threads from people who have already been banded for awhile. Most are very happy with it.

Hello all, I had my surgery on Friday May 7. Ins required a 23hr observation so I spent one night in the hospital and I am glad that I did. That morphine drip overnight was a God send. This pain medicine that I was sent home with just barely cuts it. I have to really stay on top if it and take a dose every 4 hrs. Since I have been home on Saturday I am pretty sore and tender all over my belly, and can see the swelling, I have 5 incisions. getting up and down out of the bed or couch is the hardest, it feels like it is pulling on my tummy. ouch! I was able to take a shower this morning and remove the outer bandages, but left on the steri-strips. I will call in the morning to make my post-op visit. I have been very thirsty since surgery but not hungary at all. Today was a family lunch for mother's day and it was hard seeing all that food! Everything just looked so good, I wanted a taste of everything, but I refrained and tried to sip on a Protein Drink and some broth, but it made me uncomfortable so I quit, went back to my Water. I have had water by my side non-stop. Just now starting to pass some gas, and have been taking gasx, the gas pains have not been bad at all. I am ready for the soreness to go away, supposed to be back at work on Wed. Hmmm we will see.

Just got banded yesterday and feeling pretty good. Still a little tired. I do have some pain and discomfort in my belly where the port is. Definitely noticeable when I get up from sitting or laying! I have VERY minimal belching and NO gas yet. I have been peeing though! I have had one Protein Shake all day. Not hungry at all!!! I am excited that my journey has begun!:scared2:

I just got banded on Monday, May 10th. I didn't get cold feet, I was just anxious. I lost 11 pounds on the pre-op diet but I knew I wouldn't be able to maintain the weight loss so I followed through with the surgery. So, I'm on post op day 2 and mega sore with gas pain. I've been walking to help pass the air and I finally started passing gas today. I called my doc and he said to take Gas X strips. My mom went to pick some up. As far as appetite, I don't have one. I've been drinking Water and eating Jello but only b/c I have to. I think I don't have an appetite due to the gas pain. My throat is sore from the intubation but that's normal. Otherwise, I'm ok. Hang in there my friends and stay focused on your goals.

I got my approval and surgery date - May 6th. I start my liquid only diet on the 22nd of this month. I'm worried about that some. Right now though I'm eating every meal like it was my last!

Whooohoooo!!! I just got the call today saying my second request was approved and I now have a surgery date of May 24th!!!! Starting preop today, even though it'll be a little less than two weeks!!!! I was initially denied and was sooo depressed thinking I went through the six-month hoop for nada! Thank goodness for helpful staff people who resubmitted and got it approved. Now I'm in that flying high whoohooohooo and omg I am having surgery moment at the same time! :smile2::)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
