Okay, this week I was walking down the hall and a paraprofessional I see rarely was coming towards me and she said, "Are you dieting again? You're looking great." (this is why no one suspects surgery, i have a history of 20 lb losses and diets, roflmao.) THENNN....just today my janitor said, in limited English, something to the effect of "you are pounds down, muy bonita!!". Fabulous man and he is probably 70 yrs old. I am banded since Nov.1 and only 16 lbs down. These are the things that keep me going. Sixteen lbs is not much, but it puts the sparkle back in my eyes, more pep in my step, and I guess has me taking extra care with my makeup and hair, I just FEEL better. I…

I have been looking for some sort of support group, or even just a group of lapbanders that have basically given up on the weight loss and are just going to live with the band, and go on with their lives.. LOL See, I had the band put in 9/02 and lost about 60 lbs before finding out I was pregnant with my daughter. I can honestly say, that was the last of any weight loss for me.. after I had her, I got tightened and went about losing weight again, but it was as difficult as preband.. the weight just does NOT budge like it did right after I had the band put in.. Fast forward 3 1/2 years later and I'm almost as heavy as I was when I put it in and am just living …

Hi everyone, I'm new to this! I have an appointment to get info on 6 April, then am booked for surgery 19 April, I am excited and scared! I have really enjoyed reading up on everything that has been posted, you don't know how much this has helped and how much information it has provided me with, so thanks. Tina

I want this lap band procedure so bad but i'm afraid of the drastic food changes I will have to make, i'm a very picky eater and I don't like alot of your healthy vegetables like I should, I mean i cannot stand onions at all green, white, yellow, none of them, I don't like mushrooms, and lots of other ones. SO my question is what kind of foods are good for you to help you loose weight with getting the lap band without starving yourself to death like I may have to because I know I will need to learn better eating habits so please help me understand getting the band and what kinds of foods you should eat ?????????!!

I love my band. I am so happy to have it. When I had my surgery on November 17, I weighed 244. I went in for my 2 month post-op visit and I was down 30 lbs. My first fill was this past Wednesday the 11th and I was scared!!!!! The nurse wasn't very nice, she was mean and asked my why I felt I needed a fill. I told her that I had my surgery 8 weeks ago and it was time. AND I had paid cash for my surgery and the price included fills for the first year. I had paid for the fill and it was time. Since I had my fill. I have lost 7 pounds. I cant say enough about this surgery, my doctor and the joy that I have that I am almost under 200, my towel wraps all …

Okay, I need a little help here. I have decided to be banded by Dr. ABkin and started walking again to strengthen by body. After I went for a walk today on a flat road (and I had a tough time doing so, took a lot out of me, big effort and just felt unwell). Afterwards, my blood sugar dipped so badly I broke out into a cold sweat and had to drink a thing of OJ to get myself back to normal. This happened yesterday too. It's scaring me. I was walking fine just last month. 1/2 hour on trails almost every day. I also popped into the Complications Forum and it scared the hell out of me. " 25% will experience complications leading to removal"?! And the posts about esopha…

I need help!!! I am doubting myself today SO bad!!! I feel like I can not do this. I need someone to kick me in my butt and remind me why I had this surgery. I am starting this thread for my own personal reasons... but anyone can chime in for a kick in the ass or to tell me what I can do. I am going to keep track of EVERYTHING I put into my big fat mouth. I am going to keep track of any exercise I can bring my fat butt to do. DAY 1~ of Kick my Ass into Gear Large OJ from McDonalds~ 250 calories/57 carbs Large Iced Tea~ 0/0 Atkins Shake~170 cal/1 carb 2 bites of salad ~ (all that would go down) 1 slice cheesecake 1 cup hamburger helper Exercise: 4 flig…

Was wondering who was out there from the DFW area? I used Dr. Barker and have been happy so far, except that it's being slow getting started! I'm going in for a fill Tuesday, and hoping that'll do it. If you used Dr. Barker what has your experience been??? Thanks for any replies!!!

At our WLS support group meeting last Thursday they had a plastic surgeon come in and tell us all about the wonders of plastic surgery. He made it sound as if it is inevitable result of WLS. I don't expect to have that problem because of how my weight sits on me. I don't care about tight abs (yet). My question is, I've heard many people say that lap banders may not have as much problem because of the slowness of our weight loss. Is that true or will we have as much skin as RNYers? Does exercise make a difference? Does anything?

Hey all, I went to see Dr. Abkin in NJ. I liked his office staff, the place seemed like a well oiled machine that is really set up for after care. I was also scheduled to see the nutritionist and psch eval after, but postponed it. I am not feeling well today (Fibromyalgia) and I also became anxious and overwhelmed about seeing them, as this would commit me to this surgery and the doctor. Not to mention, paying the nutritionist and psch doc would emopty my bank account, so there was anxiety there about that too. Then, driving home I wish I had just seen them. When I got home, I made the appointments for the blood tests and barium swallow I have to have done. SO obvio…

I just met an old friend who had gastric bypass in July. I had the band placed in June. She started 10 pounds lighter than i did. She has lost 100 pounds and is a size 4. I have lost 46 pounds and am a size 16. I thought i was doing so well, I was aware that I am losing slowly - although I am happy with my total weight loss - but was happy with it. I have really changed many things in my life and I am happy. It just was a blow to see how small she has gotten. I know all of the negatives to the bypass, I know that it generally takes us two years to lose what they lose in one... It just was the first time I have stood side by side with someone who had the bypass and…

I was diagnosed last May and have had two attacks since then. I am just begining my journey to bandland (am looking into a seminar and insurance coverage) and am worried about what effect it will have on the diverticulitis, if any. I don't even know what to eat now much less after being banded.

For almost two months I have been poked, prodded, :omg: scanned, zapped, screened, evaluated, and all those other things doctors do to make sure one is fit to have surgery. I have cleared every hurdle, passed every test, and now they say I’m good to go. By noon on Monday, Jan 23rd I will be the happy home for a new Lap-Band. I want to thank you all for your support and words of wisdom up to this point. Special thanks to Christina for talking with me on the phone for about 90 minutes giving me all the low down on what to expect and helpful hints. Looking forward to sharing my new experiences with you all. Wendiss

Hi Everyone, I recently responded to a post about how fortunate I have been to have only PB'ed less than 7-8 times over the last 2 1/2 years. Well todays violent PB and subsequent vomiting is the worst experience I have had so far since I have been banded. I made a 10 lb turkey since they were on sale and we did not have one for Thanksgiving at my house. All afternoon, the turkey was beckoning me. It was the butter basted variety.... The smell was driving me mad so I decided to eat some. I had about 3 pieces totaling about 3 oz of the dark meat. After the third went down, I got a huge golfball. Normally if I wait it out or dance around a little, it will go away and p…

Just got back from a dr appointment, after having been on holidays. Was shocked to see that even after a largish unfill before going overseas and eating throughout the holidays, I managed to lose 2kgs. Okay, so I know its not much lol, but its better than gaining, which is what I generally do during the holidays. My doctor pulled up my lil graph and showed me that I've now lost 75% of my excess body fat, in less than a year. He was very happy with that, as am I. He said that while my bmi is 27, I'm pretty much within the "healthy" range. I'm a bit vain though LOL and want to keep going til I'm about midway into the healthy range *shrugs*. This band has been one o…

Hello folks, Can you please tell me what you've had to do to get your powdered proteins to dissolve? I can't stand the lumps now and I'm not banded....getting banded and having lumps YUCK won't work for me. I need an easy solution that I can use at work for my breakfast and lunches without making a mess. Has anyone used that mixer thing called a bullet? The fork method doesn't work for me lol

I am two months post surgery and I was wondering when in the world will I be able to go #2 on my own. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem. I don't really want to rely on Exlax or Super Dieters Tea for the rest of my life. I am noticing things that blow up my stomach like raw onions and broccoli in which I love. I eat alot of salad. I thought the colon doesn't like salad and it would help me go. What can I eat to help me go naturally? I have lost 50lbs. so far but I don't want it to be because of exlax. When I get stomach aches I figure it is because I am constipated so I take something. I may take it two times a week. I'm not hurting myself am I? I have gas p…

Hi All! I am breastfeeding my 8 month old son. I'm sure it will hurt to do so after surgury. I have bf all 3 of my c-sec babies and survived. I also bf my then 2 month old daughter after my gallbladder removal. I guess I can handle the pain but do you think it can cause my band to slip or some other damage in the beginning? The thing is he is HUGE not a newborn like in the past.

Since I live and work in Korea I decided to have the surgery done here instead of (USA, Mexico, Europe, Australia, etc.) as I didn't want to risk the long flights after surgery. I did much research and even though this surgery is not common in Korea I very much trusted the surgeon even though he had only performed about 20 band operations. As he is a very experienced surgeon (liver, stomach, kidmeys, etc.), I felt if something went wrong that he would be experienced enough to handle the situation. He also spoke English which was a very big plus. He required me to stay in the hospital the night before and two nights after the surgery which I had no problem with as it gave …

Hi everyone!! This seems to be a good support group. I am hoping to get to know you all and to eventually be able to give information to someone new like myself to help get started and to give my support. Everyone here seems to be a big supporter of each other and sticks together. Thats AWESOME. I am new to ALL of this lapband stuff. I have for a couple of months just read some posts on this site and have been playing with the idea of getting it done for myself. I know its a long process but am wondering if someone would be so kind as to tell me where to start. I believe I have enough ailments. To many to mention right now. I do know that I should fit in the cat…

I am a little concerned what I will look like AFTER I lose all my weight. I know I'll have more energy & feel great & I CAN'T WAIT!! However, I have seen a few people lately who have lost quite a bit of weight & their face looks older. I have a friend who's skin on her face is now wrinkly. (My husband said he thought she looked better before!!) Anybody else concerned? Any one have a secret to keeping our youthful appearance after weight loss?

I only have 4 lbs to go before I hit my mini-goal of 50 lbs!! The reward I was going to give myself was to get my teeth whitened. I talked to my dentist about Zoom. (Where you sit in a chair & your teeth are whitened in 1 hr.) He said it was the worst pain ever! He said that he'd rather give birth then to have his teeth whitened again. (He's never given birth, so I don't know why he gave me that comparison, but......oh well!) I did the teeth whitening trays 2 yrs ago & it was a pain in the behind to wear them & I didn't feel like my teeth stayed very white. Have any of you ever had the Zoom treatment? Did it hurt? I am wondering if my dentist ju…

I've been reading and researching for a long time now and have finally got my surgery date. Feb 28th with Dr. Kuri. I've been planning all along to go back to Kuri for my fills. But, now I'm a little hesitant because, I keep hearing about all these erosions and I think it would be best to have someone local. It seems to be real slim pickings for Dr's here. It's been 7 months since I had surgery. I've lost 35 lbs. Lately I'm always sick. I had all the fluid taken out and I still have a lot of restriction. Most of the time I feel a least a little sick to my stomach. I'm very careful of what I eat. I had the fluid taken out on 1/1/06. How long will it take for my stomach to get back to normaL? Anyone else having these problems.? I wake up at night getting sick with nothing in my stomach.

Hello! I am still alive! I have just been having sooooo many problems lately-not so much with the band-stress/work (they very very much coinside!!)... With the band...ugh...I never thought I would say this-but not being hungry SUCKS! I have no appetite & have to force myself to eat. I went to my Surgeon & he said that is actually good news-thats how they know the band is working. I have worked up a little bit more of an appetite this week though (good ol faithful). But Im on a massive loosing streak now, which trust me I am NOT complaining...im just exausted(see little man below). :faint: I have been taking a bunch a Vitamins & my PC increased my Effexor (a…

Hi! 4 days post op and I had a protein shake and then decided to have a few sips of pureed soup after the shake. Now I have tremendous pressure in my chest and right below my chest - like a big air bubble. I feel like if I don't burp I'll die.... and I can't burp! Is this what restriction feels like? I didn't notice it while I was eating, but about 3 minutes after I stopped I sure did. It feels a little better if I lay flat on my back. Now I'm going for a walk to see if that helps. I know I have no fill in my band right now, but I suspect things are still pretty swollen in there causing "restriction"... but don't know what it's supposed to feel like?
