At what point did you start getting excited about your weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Was it within the first few pounds or did it take a while?

I've lost 30lbs (had surgery on July 28th) and right now it still feels as though I'm just on another diet, where I've already been down to this weight time and time again. 230-240lbs is where I stuck for a long time, so being here again doesn't really give me the satisfaction of weight loss - even though I know I've lost a great amount of weight.

I'm currently at 233lbs and my highest weight (which was taken at my consult on June 15th) was 263lbs.

Maybe it would be different if I lost 30lbs STARTING at 235lbs. But noooo, I had to go and gain weight.

In my adult life, the lowest I've been was around 210lbs. I'm thinking once I get around there, or under, it will hit me.

Anyone else feel this way? I mean, I'm positive about the whole thing and I don't feel discouraged - I just don't feel EXCITED.

I get that. I didn't get excited until I went past the point where I could always get to on my own with diet and exercise. For me it was the 86kg mark. When I first went lower than that weight, I was pretty chuffed.

After that, it seemed like my goal was achieveable, and then when I got to goal, it was a bit of an anti-climax because I guess I had started to believe it was absolutely going to happen. So when it happened, it was no big deal.

The next time I got excited was when I got to 62kgs (8kgs under goal). That's less than I weighed than when I was 18, and got me to a (clothing) size that I have not been in size I was 14. That was very exciting for me.

I hover around that weight now, and that's the weight I'm happiest at.

Same here, it was once I passed the point I'd already been able to achieve on my own.

I've been very successful with the band, but perhaps surprisingly, I'm not one of the people who'd ever lost substantial weight before. I had honestly never lost more than about 20lb in any dieting attempt, ever. I really really suck at deprivation and dieting. Still do. Lucky I really really excel at exercising myself into a quivering mass.

I was excited right away because the pounds were melting away pretty steadily right from the beginning. But then I got super excited when people that didn’t know about the surgery really started to notice (which was about 3-4 months out and about 40lbs down). Then I got even more excited when I passed my lowest ever dieting weight (206lbs) about 6 months out. Now, I am under 200 lbs and haven’t been this low since getting out of bootcamp back in 1984. I’m really stoked right now because I am less than 10lbs from my goal weight and within striking distance of my main goal, which is to get to a Body Fat of 15%.

I am excited now:biggrin: I've lost 16 lbs in the 4 weeks since surgery. None of my 18/20 women's sized clothes fit me anymore. I am down to a 14 women's or a 16 misses. I don't "see" the loss yet when I look at myself in the mirror, but I definetly feel it. The other thing that is awesome is since having my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as getting the band I have had zero reflux for the first time since I was a teenager!

i was excited knowing i was having surgery, then when i went to the dietian classes. an was told what to eat.i lost 27lbs. boy was i excited, then i lost another 13lbs before surgery i was on cloud nine.i had what you would call a beer belly.an it went down before surgery. i stayed on the chicken broth. Jello, low carb. then a light bulb went off in my head.i had to maintain the weight loss through the holidays, of 08- had surgery in january 09.i lost 19lbs the first two weeks. post-op then the doctor says don,t expect to lose anymore weight. until i got my 4th fill. then i saw progress.an its still going on slow. but i am happy.

My surgery was on July 10th. I have lost 40 lbs. Basically I hit the weight I can get to on my own. It's funny you asked this question because my boss at work asked me if I was excited about the weight loss. I kind of shrugged my shoulders. She said, 'is it not fast enough for you?' It's not that. I don't want to get so excited I start to sabotage myself like I always do at this weight.

Honestly, I think once I get past this weight and get down to a weight I previously haven't been able to get to on my own, I will be excited.

i couldn't agree with you guys more...i was able to get down to 290 on my own then went back to 345. i think once i hit my first goal of 275 i will really get excited. but dont get me wrong i love that the scale is moving down. i just want to see a number i have not seen in a long time.

The most I ever lost on a diet was 45 pounds, so I was super pumped when I hit 46 down. HOWEVER honestly I got excited on May 8 when I realized my May 7 fill had put me at the "sweet spot" or "green zone" as my surgeon called it. I realized then "This is what the fuss is all about!" and I also realized then that if I was willing to work it, there would be no limit on how much I could lose. So May 8, 2009 is when I got excited! :w00t: And I still am. I lose in chunks but that's fine with me! I LOVE it. I am stunned I've lost over 75, can hardly wait to get to Twoterville, but am generally happy every day whether the scale goes down or not because except for some Water fluctuation (which is getting less as I lose) I do not go UP. THAT is wonderful.

I'm not excited yet. I think I might be when I hit my first goal (which is to get under 300). I still can't notice right now though. Anyone else have this problem?

It honestly took me about 55-60 pounds to look different. I felt better sooner, but I'm looking slimmer (figuratively, I'm still really large but I'm a smaller large!) and moving more smoothly etc. :w00t:

It'll happen!

I feel that way too. I've lost 18 pounds in just a few weeks, and I just am like 'whatever.' It's kind of not real to me in a way... Anyway, I completely understand what you are going through. My lowest adult has been 200, and pre-surgery I was 283. So, 18 pounds I guess just doesn't really get me too excited. But I just have to tell myself that every pound is getting me closer to my goal. And maybe once I hit a weight I haven't been in a long time I will be excited. Or maybe once my dress sizes start moving (which they haven't yet) I will get excited.

I still don't feel really excited yet. I guess it's because I was once really thin and I still have that image in my head. Right now I still consider myself pretty fat. I think once I hit around 175 I'll just start considering myself chubby :w00t:

I have to say I went on a job interview in April and the jacket I wore is too big. I bought the same jacket (LOVE that jacket) in 2 sizes smaller (and it's not stretchy, and it buttons. so there's no "forgive" in it) and it fits and is a little loose. THAT is exciting.

When you have a lot to lose it is hard to see it, and it takes a bunch to go down a size, but when it happens, there's a PARTY! :w00t: (no food, just fun! LOL)

I just recently started getting excited about my weight loss. I think it mostly had to do with the fact that I can get into a size 20, and I don't have to go to the plus size section anymore if the store carries up to size 20. Before that I really couldn't see a difference. My clothes were getting looser, but I didn't realize how much, until I went shopping. I haven't worn a size 20 in forever. Now it will be getting under the 200lb mark.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
