Of course you can join our group! Welcome! I seem to go on plateaus and then lose 5 lbs in a week. It's very strange. I hope this next plateau doesn't last 2 months. I am going to the library to check out the body for life book.

It was recommended to me that his method speeds up the metabolism. I want to look at it before I buy it.

have you ever ask yourself why people that started at 240 or higher lose fater than the ones started at 225???

I do! because I started a year ago at 225 and my weight loss is only 27 pound! and it is upseting.

So here is a logical answer I hear in another board:

people with higher BMI or weight have been eating lot of calories 3000 or more a day, so when they get to 1500 a day, they metabolisms start to burn faster and they lose fast.

people that have a lower BMI normally already were eating around 2000 cal and going to 1500 or 1300 is not such a difference so the metabolism starts slow.

the good news is and as suppose to be on a diet, that the weight stays off and does not come back like when we quit a diet becasue we are 'tired" or dissapointed.

So, the weight WILL COME OFF it just will take longer for us.

We need to make good choices and exercise.

Perhaps you're not eating enough. Check with your Nutritionist ASAP. Did your dr give you a meal plan to follow? If you want lots of support go over to the Shrinking Violets thred. Just about everyone on it was banded last month and it has been a great source of support for me.:clap2:

Not even sure if I belong in this group anymore. I was banded nearly 5 years ago and down about 40 lbs. I have gained 20 lbs in the two years. My insurance plan changed and didn't cover any services related to bariatric surgery so I haven't had a fill in 6 months :-( I did get back to exercising after knee surgery in December 2006, so I think I'm getting back on track here.

Please help me!

I pretty sure that I meet the criteria to be in this group. Banded 11/28/06... to date total lbs lost 29--(9 of these lbs lost since my last fill 4 1/2 wks ago)... I went back to the doc and said y'all have to muzzle me up... so they did the esophogram and moved my fill to 3.5cc's

I'm starting to move along now.. hopefully i'll keep moving and then y'all can boot me to the curb... good luck to all of you

How do you feel since you got that fill? I am not losing well at all but I am so afraid to get another fill. Does food get stuck? Are you full after just a few bites? I hate it so much when food gets stuck it makes me afraid to get

another fill until I lose more weight and the band is actually looser.

You are not the slowest loser. I was banded April of 2006 and I have only lost 22 lbs. But even as I say that I makes me so happy because it has been a year and I am not gaining. I am still losing and I have not gained. That is a huge improvment from what I was doing. Keep it up! Slow is better.

Hi everyone. I have a question regarding ibuprofen. What is recommended to take as an inflammatory instead of ibrprofen, after surgery? I know they say not to take Ibuprofen or Aleeve anymore, but I have back pain, and need something. Does anyone know of anything ? thanks for your help ! :)

Denise822- you may want to get another fill... ask your dr. if they can do an esophogram to see how much of an opening you have.. they can determine from that if you need to increase your fill.... Yes, I get food stuck occassionally.. that has to do with not chewing enough.... Sometimes, it happens anyway. It will happen regardless of the fill--

Good Luck... I notice that when I got my last fill (3.5cc's) this has really increased my weight loss... I get fuller faster.. which is really good for me. I'm learning to chew more... chew til it's mush-- make sure it's small amounts at a time...that seems to help me.

My first fill, not a big improvement. Still was able to eat pretty much normal. My second, got fuller faster but now with my third I have 4cc in and I get full after two bites and uncomfortable with a lot of thick saliva after three or four and quite often throw up that last two bites. I am losing weight now at a better speed than the first 6 months. My first two fill werent a big deal but this last time she must of poked me 17 time!!!

There is a roll on pain reliver called BioFreeze that helped me a lot. I used it every night and woke up every morning pain free. Eventually my Dr. let me take one Aleve a nght but it was after three months. I use the BioFreeze more. It is an OTC medication. Sher

Same here.. my first 4 fills I was still eating like a heifer.. I told the doc to muzzle me up.. they did the esophogram and saw that the opening was still large so that increased my fill to 3.5cc's and it's working.. after a few bites i'm full and I get the saliva stuff too.. and usually the last bite or 2 will come up.. it's not that big of a deal to me... I'm just glad that I'm losing weight now.. glad to be losing more that 4 lbs/month..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
