You to are lucky, I have to do a week of liquids pre op:(

I live in Melbourne and almost had to make the trip to Jax to have surgery but then had a turn of events and I am having it here on Monday. Good luck to both of you and take care.

Hi Dolphin!

I did a bad thing...I missed my appt. with the nutritionist. I have been reading everything here (so wonderful to get all the great advice) and I realize I need to "shrink" my liver. I am lo-carbing, which Dr. B mentioned I should do.

Anyway, I am seeing the nutritionist next week, but I'm not waiting for that appointment to go on a protein/liquid diet. I am going to Gnc today to try and find protein drinks....any suggestions?

What specific diet directions did you get? I was told to lo-carb and then go on clear liquids two days before surgery. I just wish I had not missed that appt because I know I missed out on a lot of good, more specific information.

I'm about 10 days out...wow.

My approval date is Noember 19. I am on my forth day of fasting! Has anyone else had to fast?

Oh my! I've heard a wide range of pre-op diets, but I've never heard of someone having to fast!!! You poor thing!! :)

:smile2:I cant imagine the fast, will be thinking about you and the clear liquids to me is like a fast but now like what you are talking about. So hang in there and know that this too shall pass:smile2:

Fasting no, I am on a liquid protein diet per my nutritionist instructions. I have 2 high protein drinks a day and 1 high protein meal with extremely low fat or I can have a lean cusine meal once a day. Between meals I can have broth, sugar free jello, sugar free pop sickles etc. I'm making it okay. Somedays I'd really like something to eat, other days I am doing okay.

Good luck to everyone on their up coming surgeries, mine is November 18th, 7:00am at UT Southwestern in Dallas.

Syntrax Nectar has 90 cals 23 g protein and no carbs. Its pretty good. I have the cappuccino flavor every morning because I miss my coffee. They also make a lot of fruit flavors. I bought them at my surgeons office. I can't find any locally but I see them for sale on line.

I also have this drink and I love it!

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!:) I got a digital scale yesterday, so that I couldn't "fool" myself with the old one. Well, it registers about five pounds higher than my trusty old fashioned baby! Just like the stupid nutritionist's mean, mean, scale! Stupid scale, not stupid nutritionist. I LOVE her. HEY JODY!!!!

Anyway, I hate the obsession with food and numbers on the scale. I'm going to make an effort to let go of it. I'm going to change my weight ticker right now, in an effort to not freak out over the five pounds. :(

Who's with me???? Let's kick the heck out of this obsession's tooshie, so that we can get back to our loved ones and our lives, eh??? There is so much more out there than numbers on a scale and numbers on the label of our clothes. Being healthy and feeling good will give me a much better life for the next 45 years! In fact, it will give me many more years to live and see my children grow up and hopefully have families of their own. I want to be a Grandma and watch my grandkids graduate from college!

I want to look good, too, don't get me wrong. I just don't want to rely on the numbers to tell me how I'm doing. I can feel how my clothes fit. I can feel the difference in my body and in my strength.

I'm sorry, I'm babbling on now.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

Hi Jaime,

Surgery went fine..no real pain at all! Just trying to get all of the liquids down...

Shake recommendation:

Designer Whey vanilla blended with 3 oz of water, a handful of ice cubes and one packet of orange crystal light is seriously yum. Double thumbs up.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking around this website for about a year or so, ever since I first started looking into this surgery. My surgery is scheduled for November 17th and I am really looking forward to starting this next chapter in my life. Husband cooked me a mini Thanksgiving dinner yesterday since I won't be able to eat much on the actual Turkey Day! Looking forward to getting to know my fellow Novembers!

:lol:LOL Ginny I'm WITH YOU!!! I hate that Darn Scale especailly the digital.. there is nothing left up to interpertation:cursing: I've doen better this month but I do a personal weigh in in the AM after I've gone to the bathroom and before the shower:blushing: Someone told me if you weigh yourself after your skin abosorbs aboout 1-2 lbs.:glare: Not sure if it's true but it was enough for me and my OCD to obesses on it. I'm looking forward to the scale dial going downward and being able to walk into any DARN store and buy a pair of pants!!!!

Here's to NOVEMBER

I get banded Nov 18. Scared and excited too! Started liquid diet today...

I get banded on Nov 18th too. Started my pre-op diet on 11/4. I am starved!!! But it is not too bad. Can't wait to eat real food again!

My doctor says I can have grits and oatmeal during my Full Liquids phase, which is Day 3-14 - which is now. I have done sugar free pudding with no problem, so I really wanna try some watered down grits.

But I'm scared. :rolleyes2: Is anyone else scared to death to eat something of substance in these first days after surgery? I'm on Day 5 and really doing quite well, although I've lost 6.6lbs since the day before surgery. Should I let myself eat grits??
