Mississippi Bandsters!

Let's see...my long term effects...(bing lmost 3 years out...I guess that is long term...;))

I still love my band ...and have never had any complications...(Thank God..I'm self-pay...)

I have had a total of 9 fills...but have never been too tight (at least from fills) My fills were all given VERY small...1.5 cc for first one...only .2 cc each time since then...(I prefer to "sneak-up" on restiction...) that allowed my body to get used to each fill before progessing...my last fill was last july..and I sometimes feel I need one again...

the only time I was TOO TIGHT...was when I had a very bad cold....I am careful to follow the surgeons orders (most of the time:wink_smile:) I try and get from 80-100 oz of liquid a day...I have had a hard time recently staying away from sugar...(been around those Grandkids way to much...and all the junk food...) as soon as I go thru detox again...I will be back on track...to me that is the beauty of the band...It is there to "start anew" (my life has been kinda hectic for the last year or so...and my focus was NOT on making the best choices...) but even saying that...it has helped me not to GAIN weight... So I can't really tell you what it 's like at a "Normal" weight...(I started off at a MUCH higher weight) But I fully expect to work my band till I am at goal...what ever that might be...

I have learned how to "baby" my band during those times when it is more fickle... Maybe not ALL the time...but enough that I don't feel like it is not there to help ME....there really aren't any foods that I CAN'T eat...there are some I chose not to eat...and some that I "fix" differently to allow it to like me...case in point...I make home-made tortillas for my family and we LOVE mexican food...but I can't eat the shells...**unless** I actually treat it more like a quesodilla ("fry" the shell)...as a regular shell it will stick every time...but I can eat the quesodilla style...So it has become very important to "find " a ways to work my band..

I am not sure if that answers your question...but I hope that helps...I love talking about my band and helping others to be successful with theirs...so anything that you can think to ask...I will try and help with...

I wish you contined success with your band...:wink2:

Hi Debbi,

I just wanted to say Hey and welcome you to Mississippi. I hope you like it here. I would love to get to know someone who had this done. It is hard to get other people to understand that hasnt been there ya know. I have only been banded a little over 2 months so its all kinda new to me but I am so happy i had it done.

And what you said about the scale it so true. And ya know every time I see soemone thats is all they can think to say to me is " how much ya lost " it kinda makes ya feel like all you are is a number on a scale..

I guess at first It was kinda cool that they cared enought o ask abotu me but nows it like UGH cant ya think of soemthing else to ask me lol.

I think alot of people think the weight is just gonna magically fall off over night and i outta wake up 100 pounds lighter.. boy do i wish.

But anyway if ya wanna talk just drop me a email and we can excange numbers or somthing. Have a great night.

Hey Mississippi Group!!!

I was banded 10/23/07 in Tupelo, through North Mississippi Bariatric Center, Dr. Terry Pinson. I love that whole group! They are very thorough and it's a complete program. I've had 3 fills, have lost 27 lbs so far. I just found this board yesterday - so I'm looking forward to meeting some lifelong friends here..... I was lucky and had insurance cover this for me, although my portion was still around $2000ish.

I'm new here too, but welcome! You and I seem to be about on the same level. I've lost 25 since January.....but you had to go through Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Hi Ya'll,

Not much new on my part. Still waiting for Medicare to "OK" CMMC for thier "Seal of Excellents". It should happen in the month of May. Not sure yet. If it does, I'm ready.

I go to the support group at CMMC in Jackson, MS once a month. Last meeting a few people brought sample of foods that Gastric & Lap-Band people can eat and how much. Some talked on what they could eat before surgery and what they could and/or could not eat afterwards. Very interesting.

That's it for now. Well post now and then to keep everyone updated.

Don

Hi, I had lapband surgery with Dr. Carroll, too. Mine was in December of 2006. I have lost 70 pounds so far. Still have quite a bit to go but I'm losing really well now. My last fill was a week ago. Other than some strange sounds coming from my stomach after eating, I'm doing fine. I live in florence, Mississippi.

Howdy,

Went to the monthly support group meeting (2nd Tuesday of the month) and found out that CMMC in Jackson, MS had to REsumet again to recieve the "Seal of Excelents" for a couple minor things. So, should not be much longer before the approval. Lets hope not.

I'm finding out that some people have been waiting upwards of a year, if not more to get thier Date for surgery, so I don't feel so bad but it's still hard waiting. Sence I first found out about the LapBand and up unto now, it's been about 7-8 months sense I first started the jurney, not just the 1st. finding out about it..

I have been thinking of going up to Oxford, MS. to check into seeing how long it would be for me to have it done. It's a 3 & 1/2 Hrs trip one way and my wife can not drive on Freeways. Also, it seems that CMMC will not take much longer, might just leave things as is.

Until next time,

Don

Hi,

I am from Oxford, MS 45 minutes away from Tupelo and was banded by Dr. Walker Byars at the Surgical Clinic of North Mississippi. He does fills also, if you can't find someone in Tupelo.

Hi, I was banded on July 3rd by Dr. K Vick at UMC in Jackson. Had a wonderful experience. I went yesterday for my 2nd fill. My first fill was a little uncomfortable but yesterday was a lot better. I still do not feel much restriction but I do get full a lot sooner than I used to prior to being banded. The only real problem I am having is Constipation. He told me yesterday to try Myrolax. I did that and it worked wonderful. I am currently down about 38 pounds from the day I was banded and I am so excited. I hope that it continues to go as well as it has. There are times when I get very agitated because I don't lose like I think I should but I have to tell myself to stay away from the scale & not weigh every day. That will literally make you a basket case. I wish everyone banded good luck & hope all goes well with each and everyone!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
