I get about 800-1000 calories a day and I try to keep my carbs at 30 and Protein above 60. If my carbs his 50 I try to double that for my protein. I start out in the morning eating something early to get my metabolism going.

Many doctors give you a recommended diet when you start the program including pre-op. My plan requires 60 grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water post surgery and forever. I can add some vegetables at 2 months out, some fruit at 3 months out and begin carbs when I have lost 75% of my weight.

For Breakfast I do either low-sugar oatmeal or two eggs scrambled and fruit.< /p>

For lunch I tend to do one of those low-fat tuna salad kits that come with crackers or lunch meat (no bread), and carrots or some other vegetable. Or I'll do a cup of light Progresso Soup if I want something warm.

dinner tends to be larger and has a lean Protein and vegetables. Occasionally I will do some carb, but only once a week or so.

I checked out the thread over in "nutrition" where people are listing their foods. I was surprised at the amount of snacking going on - some people are having Snacks 2-3 times per day. I try very hard to stick to my 3 meals - period. Once or twice a week the vending machine will call my name and I'll just have to have those peanut M&Ms (I justify it by reminding myself that peanuts are protein).

Keep hanging in there. We're ALL doing wonderfully!

ok it appears that I should be on some kind of diet with this band. I am eating whatever I want ( usually salad & protien) for lunch and dinner just the Protein. Breakfast a scoop of scrambled eggs but I am just not moving the numbers anymore. I know I don't drink enough water...and my last fill was in December.... How much do you eat at one time? I know I can eat more than a cup of food....Do you think I need another fill? I can't imagine eating less than I am now.

I am probably just bummed cause I went on a cruise last week and gained 2 pounds....cruise was fun but I feel like I gained 20 lbs... ugh...:)

I guess I don't think of it as a diet. I just think of it as my new way of eating. I don't stick to it all the time - especially not the weekends. I still have the occasional kid's burger for lunch or cookie with my subway salad.< /p>

I still eat more than 1 cup at a sitting at dinner at least. As long as I'm losing, they say it's fine and haven't given me a fill the last two times I've been there. I go back in a couple of weeks - we'll see what happens then.

I do best when I log my food in. I used to use myfooddiary.com but now I just use a good old pen & paper and calorie book. I think that's better for me. I have always eaten more than 1200 calories and when I'm losing it's around 1300 although from past experience I can lose on 1400 or even 1500 just much slower. I haven't been drinking enough Water and I don't think I'm exercising enough.

Another thing I've noticed is that since my last fill (my 2nd - and I have 7cc's in a 14 cc band) I really had to slow down and could feel that full sensation. Yesterday, for the firt time since that fill, I noticed I didn't feel full. So I'm going to be extra vigilent for the next week or so because I'm going out of town. If I haven't lost any weight when I get back, I'm going in for another fill.

My weight fluctuates too -- I go up a few, down a few. I'm even thinking of taking my ticker off because it's never right and I feel like I'm not fully disclosing!

I only update mine after I've been to the dr's office and use their scale. Lots of stuff happens in between, but I figure they can be my "official" scale.

Hi Ya'll,

I have not been on for awhile. Still hanging in there around 238 lbs. (30 lbs down) I don't know if I need anouther fill or I'm eating the wrong/too much food. I don't see the Doc for another month.

Our monthly support group has started a weight lose challenge for the next 2 months with money prizes. It has me thinking a little closer as to what I'm doing. Maybe this will help.

But I'm not giving up. Just getting started and a long way to go to a new me. Even 30 lbs down I'm looking better and already can get in some of my smaller clothes.

Don

PS: I starting Bowling the last couple weeks on Friday with a seniors group. Bowling is a lot more excersize than I remembered. Nice to meet other people and get in a little different type of excersize. Highes game so far is 153.

Hi all,

Hope all of you had a nice Valentine's Day and your loved one gave you flowers instead of chocolates. Don't you feel sexier since you have been slimming down? Feels so good to be able to wear smaller sizes. I still find myself looking at larger size than I need -- just the reverse of 6 months ago.

Don: I think it is great you have started bowling again. Isn't it nice to get more active. To have the energy to get more active!

nrpnrp: I look at clothes and think that either they would fit me and they are too big or they look too small and then they fit. It is a great thing.

I do worry about my self image. I still look in the mirror and see (although a difference) still someone that is FAT. Yes, I am still fat. I still weigh over 200 on my little 5'4" frame, but I am almost halfway to goal. I know already that I will need a Tummy Tuck to be happy with my body after I reach my goal, but I'm afraid...what if that doesn't even make me happy?

I think that is true for all of us that have allowed our selves to become overweight/fat. Working on the self image is very important for me too. Being more fit does help. Now I can exercise and that helps me to feel better too. It's a package deal. Now we are on an upward spiral for self image. You think self-help books will be the next step?

I think that best therapy for me would seeing myself in pictures and liking what I see. I was at that point 9 years ago when I lost weight due to a medical problem. I liked what I saw. Maybe that would help. I think that what I see in the mirror has NEVER jived with what I see in picutres. I know now that what I saw in the mirror before surgery was not my true weight. I saw me as about 40 lbs lighter than I was. I didn't realize how out of control I had gotten until I saw myself in picture and almost didn't recognize me because I was so big and uncomfortable looking. I can't wait to not recognize myself because I am so slim!

julie.ann - my before picture was quite a revelation for me as well. Maybe I should go find it again (it's on my work computer) - maybe looking at it will do me some good.

I'm feeling a little frustrated right now. I was losing at a very good rate, and have slowed down the last month considerably. The fact that I can eat bread and am feeling less control over my cravings isn't helping. I think I may be due for a fill when I go back in a couple of weeks.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
