Well, I guess the first thing to ask is what has your surgeon told you that you are allowed to eat? I know for my perop diet I was going for very low carb and no sugar. But I could have as much as I wanted.

What has your surgeon said is the goal of your preop diet?

Ah, I see. Yours is very different than mine. But I suggest eating very slowly and choosing low calorie things to eat. Something like celery is a good thing to fill you up and is very low in calories. There are only 10 in half a cup. I would drop the burgers, onion rings and Pasta. Veggies and fruit seem to be the best low calorie things to eat. it may help you to spread them throughout the day too. Here is a link so that you can look up the nutritional values of the natural foods.

Good luck with your diet!!

Hi....kat here...my surgery date is August 12th...woo hoo....

I am wondering about pre op food plan. Probably just going to do Protein Drinks 2 meals a day, cut out all sugar and caffeine, and eat sensibly.

I am new to all this.

I would have LOVED to have had your pre-op diet. Mine was 5 Optifast shakes daily. I was hungry, too but not afer the 1st week. Are you losing weight? You might want to make healthier food choices. Stay away from eating out and fast food (but you really know that already, right??!!) Even though you're staying within your caloric guidelines, you really should be watching fried food, beef, carbs (bread).

I just made sure that my last shake was at bedtime so I went to bed with a full tummy. Just hang in there - I'm 4 days post-op and it is all worth it!!!

I'm on my 10 day of a 30 day liquid diet. I'm on a liquid diet for so long because I have gained alot of weight since my initial appt. back in November. I didn't start the insurance process till April. So it was suggested to do a 30 day fast having only liquids during the day and a salad at night for the first two weeks and then the remaining two weeks I am only to have liquids. Suprising enough it wasn't has hard as I thought and the Protein Shakes I have found are surprsingly filling. I have lost roughly 11lbs in 10 days and have probably had 1 day I have cheated thus far. But drink your Protein shakes they do help and if you are feeling hungry try low sodium chicken broth. It does fill you up. Good luck!

I was told to aim for 1000 calories....3 meal replacement drinks or bars and one sensible meal.

BlueGal - I started the same plan as you on Monday and my surgery date is August 11th as well. But I am not having the difficulties you are.

I have a couple suggestions for you...make sure that you are getting as much protien as you can, the shakes should have a minimum of 20g each and that will help fill you up. If you feel hungry, drink a glass of Water. If you feel hungry but its not meal time drink a shake. I am not allowed any bread on my pre op diet, so I was suprised to see you could have sandwiches...I am jealous.

If you don't have time to cook, then order a salad with meat on it and do the dressing on the side. Or just eat a bunch of lunch meats that are yummy.

I hope this helps...good luck and do your best to stick to it. Its only 11 days until we are banded!!! You can do it!!!

Thanks soo much everyone! I think it is just hard to, because there is so many temptations around. Did I mention I work in a hummus factory? hehe...well I am on my way to the grocery store now. I am going to get carrotts, celery, cucumbers and hopefully that will help me out during the day because I need to do this to be healthy. I am down 4lbs since my surgeon appt on 7/16. good luck everyone!

Your having a problem because you are human, and we are not built to live off liquids...and lets not forget the most obvious reason "IT SUCKS". My band date is August 5th, and Protein Shakes have been the key for me. The more grams of Protein the better. I even found a Protein Powder at GNC with 65 grams. If you get one of those shake mixers, it makes the protein shakes thicker. You will find that you will have to begin to force your self to drink..that is the point that I am at now! BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE...This is not easy!

Hi There, I am still waiting for insurance approval, so my surgery will most likely be in Sept. & my doctor has me dieting beforehand. I have lost 15 lbs. and I don't have time to cook either. One thing I have made time for is making the sugar free Jello. It seems to satisfy my sweet tooth at night.

You could try this too. Then I said what the heck and joined weight watchers for what I hope is the last time. I need all the help I can get also.

Good luck to you and hang in there!:cursing:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
