Gloucester,

A&E version much better than the movie that had just come out although my daughter tends to disagree. Best scene when he dives in the pond..................................................hmmmmm

To be perfectly and completely honest, I HATE the fat jokes and the movies that make fun of large people. At the same time, I think I hate it because I am (was??) fat and I did not want people looking at me and laughing. That is why I opted for the band. I want to be thin. Healthy? Of course, I am not stupid, I know I will have a better quality of life being in a healthy weight range but I really just want to be thin. I can *get* that people of all sizes ought to be accepted and embraced. Big IS beautiful - but not on me. I hope I make sense.

gingerbug,

It does make sense, some of us are blessed with confidence no matter what size we are and some of us aren't. I just wish I was one that could be happy no matter what you know? I want to be healthy too but still the confidence shouldn't have to come from a number.

I completely get it. I started telling myself a few years ago that I will not define myself by the size of my thighs, I am so much more than that. As much as I value all the other things that I have to offer, I still want to look good in my clothes.

gingerbug,

I know but it's so hard not to define yourself by your size. I was always heavy and then lost 100 pounds when I was 19 and turned my whole life around. Then at 21 I put it all on again and took it off again at 22 and then put it back on by the time I had my last baby at 28 and have been obese ever since.

This is my last resort and it was a lot harder on me being overweight after I had lost it than prior to losing it the first time for some reason. I guess I felt like a failure and people had seen what I looked like then and then put it all on they don't understand it. Anyway you look like you've come pretty far so good luck on your journey, brandyII.

I was a really confident in my skin.

My legs started swelling serverely and I couldn't do anything to stop the swelling but lose weight and it wasn't working, plus I have some problems with my feet and the weight was starting to really really effect my life.

Big is beautiful, but you have to be able to live a normal life.

It's one of those topics that I suppose is too personal to discuss at some point. It's relative to everyone differently. I probably worded that incorrectly good thing my daughter the linguistics major isn't around! I have a fear of getting down to that very thin size again and putting it back on because it has happened twice before. Does that make sense. I'm afraid I will fail again and it's not under my control.

I want to lose the weight but if I don't or if it comes back on again then what? I can't live the rest of my life miserable!!!! Yikes, only my fellow bandsters and pre-post bandsters can relate to not my hubster.

I think you will be fine BrandyII. Just keep your support group handy. This is mine, and my partner is mine, and my family. I know you can do it, and don't be scared. I think we can do this.

Thanks Ready, I appreciate it. I think some people have a harder time reaching out for help from people and I was raised to be very independent and not to so it's a big step just going to a forum, I know that sounds funny but it's true. Take care Nancy.

Nancy,

I'm right there with you on the forum idea...it still takes me a long time to reach out. I can vent and bitch and complain, or joke and give advice - but ask for help? No way.

I was raised to be very independent and still am very much a loner at heart. This June I'm moving in with my bf of 1.5 years, and I'm having difficulty adjusting to the idea. We've been talking about it for 6 months, and I'm just now getting okay with it. Move in to MY house - sure - no worries. Me rent my house and move in to HIS house? Weird, weird feelings....I'm sure we'll be fine, but that independent side of me is screaming! :(

On the confidence level, it's weird. I was never confident as a kid, but when my daughter was born it just clicked. I never would have fought for me, but when I had to push for medical issues (she and I had a difficult pregnancy, c-section, and her first 6 months were hard) so I had to find my voice. Now, I've adjusted to that and I'm not scared to tell people what I want or how I feel.

Gloucester,

I can tell by your avatar, you can be a tough beeach! LOL. It's true though once you become a mother, you turn into a bear of sorts. Which is the most important. I guess it has a lot to do with our personalities and how we were raised. But it'd definitely an easier world on the internet than it is in "real life" if that even exists anymore.

I've been with the same man for 27 years so it would be really hard to relate to you situation but independence can be a good thing. Who has the nicer house? Does he have good taste in furnishings, will he let you rearrange. It's better to live with him than to marry him so at least you can test out the waters first. I did for the first two years my husband and I were together, I don't know if it helped then because I was so young at the time but these days you kind of have to. Good luck with your move with your bf! Nancy

You know what movie I really really really love? Brigette Jone's Diary. It's the only character I love Renee Zellwanger as. The funny thing is everytime she does one of those movies she loses 50 lbs to prove she's still a waif. Plus, I heard it gave her problems in her relationship.

:huh2: I can be a big -B sometimes, I guess. I have a hard time at work because I hate the office BS and I don't really mingle well with people who are talking just to talk. I end up saying something really obscure and they think I'm weird, or I say nothing at all and they think I'm weird! I can't win! LOL...Hey, who knows...maybe I am weird.

His house is about the same as mine, but in a better neighborhood and school district. DD will be in Middle School next year, so that's becoming more and more important. He's the best...he really "lets" me do whatever I want. I have a friend at work who asks permission before doing anything. I hate that...I believe in running it by the other person...as in, "Hey honey...the girls and I want to grab a drink after work." Not, "Hey honey, is it all right? No? Oh, okay. Girls, I can't go."

LOVE Brigett Jones' Diary!!! Although, she still didn't look chunky to me, and they say the camera adds 10 pounds?

And, it caused problems??? Ugg. Celebrity's definitely have issues with their bodies - I think more than us fat folks, sometimes.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
