Stupid people and their stupid opinions

Recommended Posts

Easy!!!!!!! it is not easy, but if it were, so what, do they wash their clothes on a rock in the river? or do they take the "easy" way out and use a machine. Or the "have you tried not eating so much" question, no....that's a great idea, why didn't I think of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told very few people, but even some of them couldn't handle it. Their problem, not mine.

I love you! Good for you! You have just said what I have wanted to say for a long time. That is why I have not told a soul that I was banded. You go girl!

I tell everyone I have the band. I don't care if they have anything negative to say about it because guess what? I wouldn't have lost 80 lbs with any other diet. If I did lose it, I would gain it right back. Atleast with Lapband, you keep it off. I don't see how I could gain this weight back. I would have to get unfilled and eat like crazy. I LOVE LAPBAND AND WILL NEVER BE ASHAMED OF IT!

I am not ashamed at all about getting the lapband. In fact I am very proud of myself it took guts to go Mexico and do what I did. I just feel it is my business what I do with my body. I know how people can be so negitive. That is why I have chosen to keep it to myself.

Looks like you are doing great. Congrats.

I have been seeing a MD since 09/07. Since I was scheduled for my Surgery, I started telling most people. However, I have not told my mom or my kids. I am waiting to tell them the day before. I am schedule 04/10.

If I recieved any negative responses from people, I just said, this is for health reasons. everyone is entitled to their thoughts but I will not allow individuals negative behavior influence my bright future. :Dancing_wub:

I have mixed feeling about this. I tend to feel like others, just don't tell anyone... but then again, this is a MAJOR deal, and I think sometimes it helps to get the opinions of others, plus it's exciting and it's hard to keep exciting news to yourself. Just remember this is NOT the easy way out, and if this is right for you don't let people get to you. In a year when you've lost the weight, we'll see what all those negative people have to say then.

My best friend has a tendenancy (sp?) to be a little critical... So when I told her, before I let her get a word in, I said "this is a huge step for me, and I need support not a buch of negativity, so please don't tell anyone else." That way I made it seem like I was talking about other people, but she got the hint, and has not said anything negative to date!

Congratulations on getting the band! You're right! It is SO worth it. You're going to feel better and better every day! :biggrin2:

I only told a select few people at my office and only some of my family members as well. Since my actual surgery, the numbers of those who know what type of surgery I had has grown. Fortunately, everyone has been extremely supportive, very considerate and assume I know what is best for me.

However, there have been a few nosey folks who found out I had surgery and while they don't know for sure that I had WLS, they have tried to confirm it by asking me stupid questions. Sometimes I just feel like saying to them that I've had an Obesectomy and that I had my obesity removed! :Dancing_wub:

Again, congratulations to you!

 Thanks for everyones replies....Yeah, the bad part is That: IM NOT THE ONE TELLING PEOPLE. lol.....It's momma and hubby and the people who are very supportive of me that tell other people...They are excited for me. So I guess that makes up for all the negative assholes.

Yeah, _I_ made the decision to not tell anyone until I had moved way ahead and made it work for me (similar to others... not wanting it to be another failed attempt). However, imagine my surprise when I overhear my fiance talking to his mother about it!! :Dancing_wub::cursing::thumbup:

Let's just say that things in our house got a little nasty. I was so pissed. I haven't even told my PARENTS about it, and I'm way closer to them than his parents. AAAUUGGHH. I'm still steamed about it, but I told him (in no uncertain terms) that his mother is the LAST person he will discuss this with, and that conversation would be the LAST one they had about it.

I have to tell you that I can totally sympathize. I had decided not to tell anyone except for a select few. Then I learned that if you tell your mother that automatically voids your wish. This is means that she can tell anyone as long she says, "But don't tell anyone." I gave up and now I just let anyone know...I figure it it my life and while I don't need to hear the negative feedback, I can take it knowing that I am going to show them all!

I have lost 10 # during this liquid diet. I am sure I would gain it back within a few weeks without the lapband. this is my last attempt to become healthy.I already feel better in 10 days, I can't imagine the fulfillment I will get when I see 200 #s on the scale again.:biggrin2:

I'm also one of those tell everybody everything kind of people. I just haven't worried about how other people react. All of my friends are skinny (not sure how that happened) and while I don't know if they really "get" it, they are being very supportive. My family is the greatest and 100% with me! I've had a few people say that if I can lose weight on the pre-surgery diet I ought to be able to lose all the weight on my own. Grrr. If somebody is very negative I just say something along the lines of, "You know, I'm 43 years old and I've tried to lose weight my entire life. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux and the beginnings of liver problems. I'm running out of time to continue to try (and fail) to do this by myself." It took me a really long time to admit to myself that I can't do it alone. But now that I have admitted it to myself, that's it and I don't care what anybody else thinks. Good luck to all of us!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
