Oh my goodness, I'm glad you posted this one! I've only been banded for 2 days and I CAN'T burp. I used to burp non-stop, but now I just can't get the air out. I've tried DeGas (An aussie pill) but it hardly works. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know!

Just wait a few days. You still have swelling and the air can't get out yet. I'll bet in a week you will be back to normal.

Love this thread....

I burp much more now - my DS and DH are even appalled at some of the sounds that come out of my mouth.

No gas now, which is a relief - I think it is probably due to the fact that I am not eating so much junk anymore.

Jelbel, Maybe that's what was wrong with me this week-end (protien bar I ate). I had to go to a funeral Saturday afternoon and I had gas the whole time. Glad I was with relatives and they understood. Glad the music was loud, thus they didn't hear it.

I have the opposite problem. I can't burp well at all. This happened for about 2 weeks post-op & then again for 2 weeks after my 1st fill. Today is the 1st day I've been able to burp, but it's nothing like before. They are definately from deep down, and I have no control over them. I can't force a burp or hold one in anymore. They just happen :wink2:, and it's embarrasing. My restriction has also decreased already. I felt great restriction for a good week after my 1st fill, but I've noticed I'm able to eat more then I would like to at this point. I think I need another cc or 2 for better restriction. In my opinion, the lack of burping is a sign of restriction. Who knows though, this is all new to me!!

Banded 11/20/07

1st fill 1/8/08

19 pounds lost to date...I think I should be loosing more...:wink2:

I wish I could burp now! I used to have the longest, deepest burps ever since childhood and now I am lucky to get any air out. I rarely passed gas and now it seems to be all I do out of the other end!!

I have found the same thing, since being banded (only two weeks ago) I have noticed a lot more burping! But, I did not for the first few days after coming home, I felt like it, but it didn't happen. The burping does seem to coinside with eating a meal and I thought the same thing, the food falling into the lower stomach pushes the air up.

As for my office mates, I just told them what was up and that I would do my best not to be gross! I also burp when I am starting to get hungry! It's an odd side effect, for sure!

I love this thread because boy can I relate. I didn't have much air before my band but now it is either burps or farts all day long. My daughter doesn't even want to be next to me at night because I am just farting and farting. It has been quite painful too. So I started chewing gas x all day but honestly it seems to make it worse. So I stopped for a couple of weeks. It seems that after a couple of hours after I eat the air just gets pushed out and it is so embarrassing. I know that I do love to eat chili since I am so tight I am at the Soup addiction stage and that will definitely give me gas. Do you guys have any suggestions on products that work to help the air go away? I am hating this air thing. I sit at my desk and try to be discrete but sometimes it slips and soooo embarrassing!!!! BY THE WAY WELCOME TO BAND WORLD to all you newbies!!!! You are in the honeymoon stage of excitement and it is really nice. You will hit many platues so just don't give up and I always tell people to journal your food intake it really helps change those bad habits that we all have that got us overweight in the first place. Thanks everyone for any advice.

Yes, and glad to see from the Poll im not the only one. They come around 15-45 min after a meal. They are deep and satisfying. So they are productive for me, but not in the terms here where food comes up. Just air and I feel SO much better afterwards, like everything is settling.

I thought that I'd have trouble with flatulance after surgery (i've heard people who have bypass fart way more after) however I think because i'm eating so much better I guess i probably fart LESS than I did before. Just the burping is consistant. I almost look forward to it now. It's all good.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
