February/March 08 plastics

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone else on here who has gone through the pain, agony and expense of having plastic surgery is now having trouble controlling their eating??? I am so disgusted with myself I can't see straight . . .

Here is the deal - I did not get an unfill before my TT, so post-op I didn't have any trouble controlling how much I ate, my band continued to do that for me. But - it seemed to be getting progressively tighter and then I ended up with a throwing up virus, and by last week - couldn't even swallow Water. So . . . I went in and they took out about half of my fill. Not good . . .

Here is my problem - I have eaten everything that wasn't crawling or nailed down for the past 6 days. I am scared to weigh! I am going back tomorrow to argue my case to be re-filled, even though they told me that I could not get filled again for 14 days. If I wait 14 days, I'll be up 25 pounds!

It is almost like my head is saying 'eat it, eat it, eat it while you can!' and I feel awful. My upper abdomen is so tight it feels like it is going to POP and I can't believe I can't control myself !

I am just curious if anyone else has been as careless (or stupid - ???) as I have? I guess 'misery loves company' and I'd like to think I'm not the only one who has done this.

With any luck, I'll get some of my fill put back in tomorrow and that will put the brakes on this a little. Honestly, before this episode I didn't realize how little control I had over my eating.

yup... even after i received a fill (still not back at sweet spot) i ATE ... gained too many to admit here cause i couldnt exercise... bad combo..

so i joined WW online, i have the structure i need now.. i folow 100% during the week and about 50% on the weekends when im more active and need more fuel.

lost 8 pounds the first week alone... might be 1-2 this week - wednesday weigh ins..

good luck getting your fil... maybe call your LB surgeon and have him advocate for you..

Mommi-Hammi - I fear that I'll go through that too. I am getting unfilled the day before my surgery and already scheduled a refill for a week after surgery - I have a little over 2 weeks until surgery and I've already been dreaming of what I'll eat during my "unfill" - slap me now!!! Tonight my dd had a track meet, on the way home we stopped, I got a salad (which I havent' eaten yet) dd ate a hotdog and ff's, dh had a monster burger and o-rings - in my head I'm thinking its been HOW long since I ate a greasy chili dog and FRIES! Then I'm thinking when I get my unfill I'm going to drink a coke! I'm freaking mental! is it any wonder I was fat? :)

All that said ... all I have to say is

I feel for ya Sista!!!!

yes you are! You inspire all of us to do better. I agree with everything you said. The whole tracking thing is the way to get control. Just something about putting it down and being honest helps get you back on track. And of course exercise - calories in vs calories out - thats the plan for any weight loss.

Thank y'all for being so kind (and honest) - I am really bummed about what I have done to myself. I don't even want to weigh tomorrow at the doctor's office to see how much I've gained in a week, but know there is NO way he'll give me a fill without seeing a gain. What an idiot I've been.

I just thought I had the 'munchies' after my surgery and before I was unfilled - I had no idea . . . I feel like all I have done is EAT for the past week, and I don't mean a bite here and there - I am talking really eating, like pre-band eating - you know, the kind that got me into this mess to begin with . . . Grrrrrr.

Anyway - my appointment is at 1:30 tomorrow and I'll let you guys know how it goes. With any luck my doctor will give me a swift kick in the pants (and a fill) and that will get me back on track.

Thanks again for your support, always. Although I don't post that often, I do spend time every day here reading many of your posts and know that I can get an honest answer when I need it.

Okay you all have me freaked out a bit! I am on maintenance right now, but for the last few days have been pb'ing (which is NOT normal for me) Prior to last Wed I had only pb'd ONCE since I was banded. Now 3 times in one week. MY PS requires that I have a complete unfill before my TT (July 3) because she doesn't want any nutritional issues. However with this new found unbearable tightness, I have a big dilema. I live 6 hours from my band doc and I have three options.

1. Stick out until the end of June and pray that this band loosens, meanwhile surviving on liquids and mushies.

2. Have a partial unfill on friday (12 hour round trip), a complete unfill end of June (again 12 hour round trip), and then refill mid-august (PS doesn't want me filled for at least 1 month due to the extensive nature of my TT)

3. Have a complete unfill on friday and the a fill mid-august.

So I was really leaning toward number 3, but now I am freaked out. Maybe because I don't have the TT looming right now and I can still work out full force that it won't be a problem for me. I have no desire to eat the crap foods and hopefully that wont' change if I have the unfill, but I am SCARED! Petrified really. So we will all have to motivate each other during the next few weeks (months for me!) Hang in there. This is the beauty of the band, we can always get back on track!

You guys are all inspirations and I look forward to sharing my stories with those that follow me. I have gleaned so much information from all of you and hope to be able to pass it on in the future.

Karri - I think I would opt for #1 - I have found that I usually pb bc I havent' chewed my food properly or I have eaten too fast. I find it hard to believe that your band would suddenly tighten up, although you didnt' say when you had your last fill. But thats just my opinion and you know your body better then anyone, so do what you think is best.

I have a VERY low tolerance for fills. I only have 1.7 cc in a 10 cc band. As I have gone through the weight loss I have actually had less and less in it. I have only had 3 total fills (1 after being totally unfilled) and after each fill within 2 weeks I have had to go back in and be unfilled. My last fill was at the end of March and I lost 9 pounds in 11 days because I couldn't eat ANYTHING. I went in and had some taken out and I have been too tight for me even since then. But now I have started pb'ing. I can still drink Protein Shakes and Water, but anything thicker than that is causing me pain. Plus my PS does not want me losing any more weight before surgery. She wants me to be at a stable weight for about 1-2 months and I continue to lose weight when I am on liquids. All of my docs think that option 2 is the best (though that 3 was more realistic), but said it was ultimately up to me. Once I have the PS, I will most likely be at my original goal weight, so I am not really interested in LOSING more weight...just not interested in GAINING in either!

Thanks for the input! I am taking EVERYTHING into consideration as this is not an easy choice.

i'd either go with 2 or 3. i know its a lot of time and trouble, but you need to be completely healthy for your surgery and i dont see liquids / mushies giving you adequate nutrition to prepare for surgery. its fine for pre/post op and post fill but for a few months before a MAJOR surgery ... not so much.

BUT, if it's like Steph said, if its cause you havent chewed properly lately, etc... then wait and get the unfill until right before PS.

Yeah I don't think it is because I didn't chew properly. I am having issues getting down thick mushies. My oatmeal doesn't want to go down this morning. Yesterday I could at least get that down! I should have turned the car around after having the last partial unfill and had more taken out, but alas I didn't. My band doc is calling me today to discuss more options. We will see what he has to say.

I thought that was my problem early last week with all the drama of the PS docs, but now I am actually less stressed than most days. I am a high school teacher, I wouldn't know what it feels like to have no stress!. And no...the new mawwage is not stressful at all!!

I may see if I can postpone the unfill until later next week and see if whatever the heck is going on calms down. My doc might not be happy about that though. Sorry about hijacking this thread:biggrin2:

What about TOM - I am always WAY tighter then. I can never eat in the morning either, no way could I do oatmeal but if you are just trying to maintain maybe you better get in there and get some taken out. Its a shame its such a drive for you.

I've only lost about 7-8 lbs since my last fill and I'm already loosened up and feeling hungry faster. Its crazy how these things affect each of us differently.

Nope not TOM. These things are crazy! I am going to try and eat a solid meal tonight and see what happens. BTW, my oatmeal is almost soup!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
