Recommended Posts

Hey Bochs - I was just reading the posts, haven't posted in this forum before but noticed you are from Springfield IL. I am in Rochester, we're neighbors! If you don't mind my asking, who did your surgery? It's so exciting to see someone on here so close to home.

Hey there Freedom, Yep we are neighbors:tt2:. I had my surgery done in Peoria with Dr. Stephen Marshall. I am doing great so far. When were you banded? You will find some great people on this thread and another thread is the Mentor thread with Indio. She just was on here a minute ago. She is the absolute greatest mentor anyone could have. Who did your surgery?

The nutritionist spoke at our support group last night. He said people should not be so worried about calories. He said that if you concentrate on the right Protein, the calories will be just right. Doesn't make sense to me, as some Proteins are high calorie. He mostly emphasized staying away from white carbs, potatoes, white bread, noodles and rice. He said they cause our blood sugar to spike which causes hunger and binging on bad foods.

Glad to see all the new bandsters. It's so much fun watching the lbs melt away!

Definitely sounds like a fan of Atkins. Which I am.. but I would say there are limits. But with the band, I guess they are saying you can't get too many calories? (just a guess)

By the way Denise, how are you doing since back home to normal life. I remember you were traveling a lot, had company, wedding or something... I'm really interested in how you and Indio do....(you are our heros)... How we maintain once we reach our goal.

Dr Hammer did my surgery here in Springfield on July 2nd. I've been reading some of Indio's posts. She does seem to have alot of good info to share. So glad there are people like all of you here. I'm gonna need some mentoring as time goes by. I've had my first fill and it didn't go too well. I go for my 2nd on the 19th. Hope it goes better. Do you go to any support group. We have one at Memorial once a month, I'm sure you could join us if you would like. In October a plastic surgeon is coming to speak to us. Should be interesting.

Katarina - I was worried about maintaining - but you know what - it's not really that hard at all - I give myself 3 lbs leway (sp) I'm 145 - so I can go up to 148 - but once it hits 148 - I am cutting out a snack here or there or pushing the intensity of my exercise -

For me this has never been a diet - this has been a lifestyle change - I am eating the same foods that I ate for the last year - now I may add a little real butter or add an extra snack - but basically no changes - If I don' have a candy bar no guilt - the way I am eating now is how I will eat for the rest of my life - I eat Breakfast (steak 3 oz & egg this morning) - lunch (4 oz fish & cauliflower) 1/4 apple for a snack - this afternoon fiberone bar (oats & peanutbutter to die for) dinner - turkey meat loaf veggies mashed potatoes - snack 100 c popcorn - pudding and if I want a fudgecicle or yogurt..

I eat I really do - and my weight has been stable I have even gone to 144 (for about 1 sec) - I was not on a diet this last year so I had nothing to change - no diet to go off of - I am eating healthy with few treats and my usual exercise 4 days a week sometimes just 3...

Hey Freedom, I would love to go to your support groups at Memorial but I am a Village Clerk and our Board Meetings are the first and third Tues of every month so thats why I havent been able to come. Email me and let me know when the plastic surgeon is coming cause I will miss the board meeting in October to go to that one.

Little Bit

My doctor provided my food for my pre-op - oatmeal - Soup - shakes and Protein Bars - Optifast I think it was and I only had 1 week of pre op but 2 days of Clear Liquids - I made my own home made chicken broth - it tastes so much better thant the canned stuff..

Hasnt your doctor given you a list/menu that he wants you to follow??

Good morning. It is cool out today so I am wearing one of my new sweaters I bought a while back in the MISSES department!! YAHOO!! I've been trying to not weigh every day and just doing so on Mon and Thurs. No more loss today, bummer. Things must have stablized for me and this is how it's going to be now. I'm still losing about a pound to two a week so that's good. I just got very spoiled with so many big numbers early.

As for liquid diets, I really didn't follow one long. Just one day pre op and 4 days post op. I had Isopure protien drinks, broth, Jello and popsicles.

Indio,

I am 54 yrs young, I was 225 before op ( August 26 ) and arriving at home 3 days later ( 2 days of driving because we live in New Brunswick) I was at 218. Now 15 days later af I am at 214 .... so discouraging. I know a lot of people on Lapband loose more and more then I.

I do walk 45 min every day, and follow Protein, shake and mushy diet. This October will be one year that I don't have my periods. I was thinking that it is because of my hormones that I am not loosing much. I am discouraged. I thought that it would be so easy ! but no !

In the middle of October I intend to visit Dr Atlas (Montréal) for a refill... I am a bit scared for that part.

What is too much loosing ? and what is not enough loosing? I think my band is not working after all... and it cost me 16 000$....

What did I do wrong?

:rolleyes2: !!!

Madame Suzanne

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
