Phew -

This is almost like pregnancy -

All the checkups and Drs and almost feeling healthy

Weird backward thinking ;

I hope I'm "sick" enough for LBS yet healthy enough for surgery.

Out of 12 requested evaluations, tests, clearances, etc.

I've either completed or scheduled my share of the list.

Blood and psych today and the rest scheduled thru first week of October.

Surgeon's PA working on other required evaluations.

The 6-mo diet required by my BCBS Pennsylvania has me pissed!

(because I don't have Dr supervised 6-mo dieting in last 2 years)

With a BMI of 37, non-medicated diabetes, sleep apnea, hi chol & BP (meds for both), bad knees, new hip pain, cataracts, numb feet, slow healing, peripheral neuropathy -

Has anyone bi-passed the 6-mo diet with the above co-morbities??

Or worse - been denied?

If you are in Pennsylvania, why not come north to Toronto, Ontario Canada for your Lapband surgery??? You could have it done in weeks versus months?? Could you afford it?? Just a thought, about $18k here there are two really good clinics in TO.

Afford 18K???

Absolutely not.

Although my husband has been working for over 35 years at the company that has this HMO - there is a constant threat of "downsizing"

I got "hit" back in 1999 after working for the same co. for nearly 20 years.

We are both computer programmers and analysts.

I just hope we still have coverage in 2009 if he gets let go.

And more importantly -

We have 2 totally devoted dogs that are attached to my butt as if it were magnetized.

They've never been in a kennel, 2 of my children live elsewhere and the other has 3 dogs, 5 cats, dragons, toads, salt-water fish and I can't imagine him taking in another 2 critters.

I hope the dietitian from the HMO's weight management program can be accepted as the official diet portion of my evaluation list.

16_2_104.gif I love this!! Elayne, I understand about the pup situation. I also have pups, one is 15 years old---poodle, of course! No kennels for her. When I travel, I have a petsitter who comes and lives at my house. Peace of mind costs me, but it is worth it.

WOW, Indio, what a honor. Congrats.. Any idea on exactly what they want you to do for the ad??

Wear som, ething flattering, but everythings look like that these days I bet!!

Lynn -no I don't know yet - Kristin is going to call me back with the details - I have done a little still pic fashion show that I'm going to post on my lucky #7 thread- when I do I will give you guys the link - but the pics really don't do the outfits justice.. I may go shopping today - but I am suppose to stay off my foot as much as possible - but it doesn't hurt so we will see what I do... I am not real good at following orders - that old catholic school rebellious girl still comes out in me

What the heck, Janet - buy something new!! It's so darn much fun for you to shop these days - and you need something really special just for this occasion. Way to go, girlfriend!

Thanks JoannMarie - I may just do that 15_8_8.gif [/url]

Well, if you're acting like a 2 yr old, so are we! I think we're probably all as excited as you are!! Especially me because I'll probably actually get to see this commercial!! I am PSYCHED!!

When are they supposed to shoot it???

Did they give you any clue as to how they might want you to dress!???

Maybe the green dress is too formal... cute little tight jeans and a top that shows a little cleavage?????

AND YOUR HAT!!

Thanks Phy for understanding my inner child 15_8_138.gif (omw I love this one)

I can't figure out how to get all of that funny animation either. I would like to jazz up my space also when I write. Janet, that chile cheese thing does sound good. I think you should wear a very snug dress with nylons that have lines up the back and some high heels. You show off that body girl:thumbup:.

Beckyo

Thanks Becky but I don't think they are really going to show my legs the commercial that runs now doesn't and it's still 100+ here - I do have this black dress that cute - you will see on my fashion show thread :)

I won't kennel my dogs either - cruel and unusual punishment IMHO

they go with me or I get a house sitter too..

Hey Dandy,

Just want you to know that you did well in not gaining while you were gone. That would be a bummer. Just try to stick to the program. Go to the library and see if they have any cookbooks that are written for Bariatric patients. I have one called "Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss Surgery (sub-title: Delicious Dishes for Nourishing the New You) by Margaret M. Furtado. I got mine off Half.com, where you can get used books really cheap...or often never used books from dealers who bought too many. Anyway, check it out. Maybe a new recipe or two will inspire you to stay on track. Best of luck to you. Keep up the good work!

Kathy

Janet, I responded on the style show page, but wanted to check in here in case you see this sooner... You look wonderful in all the pics - I esp liked the first 2 groups. I find I am partial to the last pic in the 2nd group - little green top layered over white, black pants. I love the color on you, and the white layer peeking through accents your tiny waist. I'll bet many colors are flattering to you - blues, corals, pinks, rich jewel tones - they must all look beautiful with your coloring. I also like the bold black/white print top in the first grouping. It also accents a tiny waist and slender legs. Whatever you choose will be great!

It's great that you can now shop with color and style uppermost in your mind rather than trying to find just anything that doesn't look fat! I am so happy for you, and only a little bit envious. You inspire me!

Hello All Y'all, I am new at this site and I am having trouble finding my way around. I am going to be banded on the 25th.....12 more days. I have been drinking the Meal Replacement for 3 days nows and it is sooo hard. I weigh 260 pounds or I did a few weeks ago at the doctors. My scale says I have lost 7 pounds in the last 3 days. I can't believe this and I think my scale is lying to me. If I can just make it thru these next few weeks of no food I will be ok. I have already taught myself to eat slow and chew the bull out of every bite. Sweets and I have never been friends. I just don't have any metabolism. I am going to 53 in a few days. I am a widow and looking forward to feeling sexy and beautiful again. I just need support to get me thur this. I want a bologna sandwich so badddd. lol

Hi Choosie,

I'm a widow, too, and I know it's hard to do this alone. However, it is sooo worth it. Getting healthier makes everything in life better.

Today I made the best crockpot chili and I have to share it with all of you, 'cause it was so yummy!

I used about 1 pound of chuck roast, still partially frozen (I buy a large roast and cut it up in pieces before I freeze it), and season it well with Emeril's southwest seasoning, on both sides. Then I cooked it on (crockpot) high for about 5 or 6 hours. Once it started falling apart, I added about 2 tbsp. cumin, 2 tbsp. smoky paprika, 1 cup medium Pace salsa, 1/4 c. frozen, chopped onion, 1 large can chopped green chilies, 1/4 c. (or more) Frank's hot sauce and 2 spoons beef better than bouillon, and 1 can black soy Beans. I stirred it all up, shredding the beef and cooked on high for another 6 hours. I ate 1/2 cup and put all the rest in small containers to freeze. This was easy and possibly the best chili I have ever had!

Oh, and it's a sunny, warm, beautiful day here. I was just in the mood for some spicy chili and it worked for me..... (the air conditioning is nice and cool...

And even though I am losing very slowly, it is so nice to read all your posts and see how well everyone is doing. You all inspire me to keep going.

Nancy

Hello Angelshere, I am a widow, but I have a new partner. He is not very supportive right now, but I think it is his way of saying I love you fat or skinny and he hates to see me hungry. I just know this will all be worth it in the end and when I am 100 pounds less of me he will still love me the same. Your chili sounds wonderful...someday I will try it.

Hi Choosie,

Your guy sounds terrific if he loves you skinny or fat! He's probably just concerned for your welfare and if you show him you are healthy and still feeling well as you lose weight, I am sure he will be as delighted as you are! Stay with it and best wishes!

Nancy

i also am a widow. it will be 4 years in April. we were high school sweethearts. im glad i found this site too. all i have at home to support me is my 10 cats. ha ha my sons support me also. i am just waiting for the doctor to review my papers and get an appointment with him. my regular doctor told me that if i did'nt get this done, he gives me 10 years to live. that certainly made me want to get it done. my husband always worried about my weight for my health and i know that if he were here he would encourage me to get it done.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
