Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Greetings, everyone! I was banded on Febuary 26th, so I'm a newbie bandster. The surgery went beautifully- I actually feel better than I had expected to, considering! Now, I'm taking a little R&R from work to get my recovery solidly on the way. I'm so very encouraged with the progress so far...my ticker reflects what I've achieved since starting my preop diet prep on January 26th. I'll turn 51 tomorrow- and I'm thinking, wasn't this a GREAT birthday present to give myself? :banghead: Looking forward to e-meeting all of you! Best, Christine

Hello.

it has been 8 weeks since i had surgery and have lost 7 lbs - seems slow to me. i got my first fill 1 week ago and that has helped keep hunger away for longer (3.5-4hrs). i think i may go for another fill in 1 month. but i feel so much better than before the surgery.

Beck That's about a pound a week when you average it.. Which is good..

What are you eating - how much are you eating - are you keeping a food journal - what are you doing for exercise..

Because of a bad knee exercise is not great. I walk when I can - 30 minutes. I eat 3 small meals a day and snack 2 times. snack example would be couple of stalks of celery and Peanut Butter. I am eating plenty of Protein.

today I ate : 1 egg, 1 piece of toast; celery & peanut butter;

2 chicken strips & 1/4 cp mashed potato; 1 cp popcorn; elk and small dinner salad.< /p>

Is that too much food? I figured about 1400 calories.

During my weight loss phase - I ate 800-1200 cal a day and varied them - I'm lucky no physical limitations - walked on the treadmill 4-5 days a week too..

I would trade your egg in for eggbeaters (has less calories) and skip the toast for bf add a little ham (oscar meyer deli thins 6 slice 60 cal - eggbeater 1/4 cup 30 cal and I think 14 grms pt - add 1/2 slice of 2% cheese for 20 cal - you have a omelet for 110 cal - that's the # of cal in just your toast w/some butter - I think an egg is 90 cal - and you gotta be careful of pb - it has 190 cal for 2 tblspns..

Where the chick strips breaded and fried or just plain chicken

and what kind of dressing on your salad.

I ate starches but limited them mostly to my dinner only - am attaching my typical menu to give you some ideas

thank you for the menu sample. I think I am right in there. I am choosing at this time to not eat sweets and eating plenty of Protein instead. Maybe being 57 it will take me longer to increase my metabolism and hope to be able to walk more with less stress on my knee. I am also, when possible, eating organic, whole grain, nonprocessed foods. I must admit the chick strips were breaded (darn!).

thank you for the menu sample. I think I am right in there. I am choosing at this time to not eat sweets and eating plenty of Protein instead. I know 2 banders in MT ;0) they are in my Lucky #7 (July 07) thread - one in Lincoln and the other in florence - I think - but remember I am in the 50+ thread - so those cities might not be correct ;0)

I really beleive for me that I was/am able to exercise has been a big help. Back in the day - I took a dance class twice a week and lost 20 lbs without changing my eating & drinking (that was back when I was in my 20's and still partying hardy ;0)..

Like I said - I do eat carbs - and don't count fruit & veggies as carbs - when I talk about carbs it's really starches - Heck I rather eat 60 cal of an orange than a piece of bread - I think the orange is a healthier choice of food.

Yep our individual motabolizams (sp) has alot to do with how slow/fast we lose. I was 52 when banded and I lost 100% of my excess weight in the 1st year - but again - I work very hard - I totally changed my eating from high fat/sugar to healthy and the exercise

I also kept a food/exercise diary for the 1st yr too - I am a firm beleiver in it.. And even today if I gain some - I will go back to logging - Also I have given myself a 5 lb limit and if I go over that - I go back to the basics

This isn't a diet - it's really about a total lifetime lifestyle change...

a life change for sure...i hope to get back into living life.

i am keeping a journal of feelings and experiences along the way but i will consider writing down what i eat to see on paper exactly what i am eating. that is a good idea. thanks

I am into positive affirmations - take the word hope out of your vocabulary and replace it with will !!! ;0) You will get back to living life - hell I ate and slept my life away before - the weight just weighed me down - now I live !!! I have the energy of a youngster - I feel 10 yrs younger...

It's important for us to learn what a real portion looks like and it's important to know how many calories are in the foods we are eating - grocery shopping takes me a lot longer now a days - I will want Cookies - I look at the container and see that 2 little Cookies are 250 calories - I say hell no that's not how I want to spend my budget of calories cuz I know I will be hunger in a few after eating them - where as if I eat real food (hard proteins) I will be full for a few hours.

I can tell you losing the weight frees you - pple who meet me now think this is the way I have always been - they think I am normal - I might look normal - but gotta say - there still is a fat chick inside of me who wants to take my life back from me - but I won't let her..

i so hear what you are saying. i am loving the fat person i am today while moving toward the true me - the slim me. i have hated myself for so many years and that did not help anything...just dug the hole deeper...so love the self into wholeness. Change is difficult no matter how much we want it. The portion idea is so true...learning what a small portion means. I do focus on hard Proteins and I agree my hunger stays away longer. I do look forward to feeling energetic and alive.

Thanks for your adformation. I agree it is important to say I will. I am, is another one. I am loosing weight, I have lost weight! My biggest problem was always gaining it back. With the help of Lapband, I will control my own diet. Yeah for all Lapbanders. I am learning a new way of life. My "eyes are still bigger than my stomach". Really. I have trouble getting used to the fact that I can only eat 1/2 cup of food. Tonight, I threw away 1/2 of a crab cake, waaah! I wanted to finish it. But, my pouch said "NO!" I hear you on eyes bigger than tummy and when I am out and straving I order w/my old brain - taco enchilada & relleno - but now that will be 3 meals instead of one..

I don't eat out often so when I do that's my treat - but like to nite I am bbqing a filet migon - I will eat 1/2 and save the other half for bf/lunch tomorrow.

Yes and you have to give yourself credit to for the steps that you are taking to regain control over your eating ...

It's a process - even thou I am 2.8 yrs out - I am still learning every single day.

I too find myself throwing away food - but as I say - better in thee (trash) than in me :0)

I printed your menu and was inspired by your success.

I had been real busy with my new job and my schoolwork and have stopped working out each day and writing down all my food.

Starting again today. I AM writing down everything and working out at lunch:smile: Iwill lose weight this week:tt1:

WTG Maggie - Life gets in the way sometime - but you have to make you a priority... Someday's that's not alway possible but it is most of the time - ya you might have to cut out some relaxing time or make sure you do like crock pot dinners - but you can find the time for you !!!

LOL. For a second, Janet, I read "crack-pot" dinners. Back on bandwagon. Fell off bigtime partially due to major stressors in my life. Pain, paperwork, inability to use my drug of choice--exercise, and other life stressors.

But back to to Protein first, and not room after that for much else.

Be cautious with sauerkraut. I get trapped gas in the abdomen that pushes up on the band causing severe pain. It can't get back through the band and into the pouch and come out as a burp. Takes a few hours but found out this too shall pass--out the other end.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
