PB to me means acid relux...don't know if I ever really had a PB ...I've gotten stuck and vomited that's for sure. I had an unfil yesterday and I know now I was too tight! I feel just right again...this does change though and I've got to admit when I'm too tight...admitting this means I am vomiting and getting refux period.

Hello. I live just north of Houston and got banded on April 1st and have lost 18 lbs. So far only one problem with PB...I was chewing a piece of food (the day after my first fill) and one of the dogs bumped me, so I swallowed it whole. Note to self: sit down at the table when eating! I was 55 in March...and got the call that I was approved that afternoon. Even the 18 lbs has made a big difference in how I feel so far and I'm looking forward to even better days.

Welcome! I live just south of Houston. Yep, chew, chew, chew! I use baby spoons and forks to eat. It helps, but I do forget and swallow bites to big. Eighteen lbs is awesome! Congrats!

I was banded on April 7 and have lost 14 pounds since surgery (23 before surgery) and I feel great. I am 57 and beginning to feel younger! Woowhoo!:scared2: I have not gotten stuck or PBed yet. I go for my first fill this Wednesday. Not sure what they will do, as I am still losing and not too hungry.

Good for you, Froggie! Sounds like you are doing great. Congrats on your band and good luck on your journey. Welcome!

Hi All,

I was banded April 7th. My port was very sore from the start and took a long time to heal. I could feel the muscle tissue pulling. It is almost healed to the point where I do not feel any pulling. I go today for a checkup. The doc said he may not fill me because of my port area. In the meantime, I do well with Breakfast and lunch, but am eating way too much for dinner. I am not starving and I really do not want to. I am trying to maintain until I get a fill. I need to get my exercise in gear...started walking a couple days a week, but not enough. Need to do some weights and arm presses. Now that I am feeling better, I should be able to jump on my ellyptical.

Good luck to all in this journey! :scared2::grouphug:

Oregondaisy,

Just curious why you are changing from band to sleeve?

Oregondaisy doesn't post anymore here - she's on the sleeve board - she converted cuz finding the sweet spot was difficult for her - she lost all her weight with the band but had a hard time finding that perfert spot where she wasn't too tight or too loose - She had a slow metabolism (had it tested) but she got to goal - She went to Mexico and had it done. She's very happy with the sleeve - there have been alot of banders who converted - just for that reason (can't find the perfert sweet spot)

I have been lucky - I haven't had an issue with that but some pple do..

My port was the sorest the longest - since I'm almost 3 yrs out I can't tell you how long but at least 6 weeks.

Suggest - take the word try out of your vocablary and replace it with WILL... I am a firm beleiver in postitive affrimations..

Alot of banders are tight in the a.m. but loose at night - you just have to budget your calories to compensate for this imho -

This isn't about a diet - but truly about a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating and exercise habits.

As my signature says eat healthy plus exercise plus the band equals success..

Get your butt in gear and move :)) just do it as the commercial says - there are many days I try and tallk myself out of going to the gym - but I know that exercising was/is key in my losing the weight and maintaining it - along with eating healthy..

Welcome to lbt & the 50's thread...

Janet

Janet,

Did you win at Pechanga???? I love Old Town also. There is a store called Le Menergie. They have great purses, jewelry and clothes! It is next to Rosa's Cantina.

Man! Now I'm mad! I missed a lot of good shopping. We were there in Feb and DH took me to Old Town at 9 a.m. on a Monday! Everything was closed!! It was annoying. We did have a great dinner the night before with DD & SIL & DGS at a steak place there. Was up on the 2nd floor and Prime Rib is $1/oz on Sunday nights... 12 oz minimum, so I had lots of leftovers! Can't remember the name of the place. Maybe "Cowboy" something??? Anyway, the food was great and live music that I LOVED!

Nope didn't win - went Friday night lost 60 then we went back Saturday - it was so packed that we couldn't find a machine - and pple say we are in a recession

I think we went in that store - we hit every one I think - I loved the travel agency that had a boutique in it - Got a Jams world dress for $88 that was a steal...

We ate Breakfast at Swing?? OMG the best biscuits & gravy and sauage - Yes I ate that for bf w/eggs - didn't eat it all and it was my treat - was full all day - we didn't eat again til dinner

Oh Phyl - sorry stuff was closed - it's a neat place - we walked around for 5.5 hrs.. I think I wore my gf out ....

Wanted to go to touch of soul - but couldn't find it - plus was so full from bf that didn't have any room for more food - finally found it on the way home from pechanga sat nite - its not in the old town strip but above it - well depending on where you are coming from.. on Front street

I am 53 and was banded in March. My weight loss is now 33 pounds since the surgery. My next appointment for my second fill is next week. People are starting to notice but I still find myself doing just what you talked about, eating to fast and eating too much. It will be nice to have people my age to talk to about it.

On the right track

PS I want one of the weight trackers. I downloaded the app but it says I must get a pin number from someone. Anyone got one?

You guys hit the good places! I hang out regularly at "The Swing"! My girlfriend owns the nail store a few doors up. I will have to check out the Travel Agency (after weight loss!). "Touch of Soul"???

Phyl, "The Cowboy" steak house changed ownership just recently. Heard it was not that good before.

Another great place is "The Public Place". Excellent food! The guy owns a catering business called "The Forge". So good! I also love "Rosa's Cantina". The best tacos and salsa! Ok, enough about food now!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
