I am with you. I MUCH prefer soft foods, especially earlier in the day. Can eat anything later in evening, but I love creamy soupy foods before that and even after sometimes. Its not good, not right, but feels right doesn't it?

Hello everyone. Got a complete unfill today. May have a slipped band and I do have a partially flipped port. Have to wait 30 days to see if problems resolve. If not, dr. will do upper GI to check for slippage. Had 6 ccs in a realize band. I'm afraid of gaining weight, but have been PBing and sliming all day, every day. Have maladaptive eating disorder since I can't eat any normal food. I gained 4 pounds in 3 weeks. If I need surgery, I won't replace my band. The past three weeks have been hell. Besides the dr. had to stick me three times and then poke around a lot to get into the port for the unfill. Anyone else have these problems?:)

I understand somewhat you are going through. I had to get some of my fill removed. I only have a 4cc band and had 1.5cc in it and he took out .5cc's out. I have what they call a sliding hernia. Had quite a time with it. Had alot of chest pains, ended up in hospital to have that checked out thought it was my heart. Had a few episodes of the chest pains until I finally went for it. It had to do with the hiatal hernia pushing the gerd behind the heart.

Anyhow it has been a couple weeks and I am afraid of gaining weight. I haven't eaten like way out of control but bad enough, the heartburn and acid reflux has improved but did have the chest pains the other day again. So got to visit doctor again soon. I am not having the band removed. maybe he can fix the hernia or something not sure what will happen. I do want some fill back but don't want the chest pains...what the heck do I do??

I had my banding back in 2003 so has been awhile I had the hiatal hernia then , why doctor didn't fix it then is beyond me..well good luck with your issues...Donna

Hugs on your slip Glammaw - I have read/heard that an unfill will help the band go back in place..

As to gaining - just be careful - eat healthy -

Thanks, I am working really hard at not overeating or eating slider foods. I had developed maladaptive eating and find that I am still leaning toward those foods. I think I am just afraid to eat real food, since I don't want to throw up anymore. It is such a relief to eat and not get stuck or have to run to the bathroom to get it up or slime. My dr. considers me a success at 75% of my goal weight. I still have about 25 pounds to lose though. At what point do we consider ourselves a success? Or do we ever? Please hold good thoughts for me and my band. Thanks.

I have been having some chest pain, too. Kind of scary, like is it a heart attack or gall bladder or the band.....wish you much luck in getting everything straightened out. The pain is not fun!

Any weight loss is a success. Especially if maintained. I'm sure you look better, feel better, and are healthier. Whoo whoo! Maybe someday you'll lose more and maybe you won't. But you don't have to go back to where you were. Yeah. Go girl!

Diddo! I still have about 60 pounds to lose, but I would do it AGAIN IN A MINUTE EVEN IF I NEVER LOSE ANOTHER POUND! I feel better than I have in 20 years! I am at a plateau right now and working on getting past that.. Not finished, and not giving up! Good luck to you all! Hope to see Less of You soon! God Bless!

Hello 50 Gang!

I am officially a member of the band as of Friday April 9th. I was reading about the problems Glammaw is having with her hiatal hernia... I am self pay and fortunately having a hiatal hernia made it so that I could afford the band. The doctor is charging the insurance for the hernia repair and then just charging me the price of the band while he is already in there. I am hoping that the repair will bring me off of Nexium, which is quite pricey. Hope you are feeling better real soon glammaw.

My doctor is in San Antonio, so it took us four hours to drive home today. I laid in the back seat the whole way. Feeling a little bit tough, but better now that I have had a nap, a fresh slug of my pain med and sipping on my Water again. I look forward to getting to know you girls as I am just a beginner on my journey.

I am new to this. What is PB?

I'm still pre-surgery and feel like I don't know enough.

I am new to this. What is PB?

I'm still pre-surgery and feel like I don't know enough.

Welcome, CCBCINDY. A pb is a "productive burp." Sometimes food gets stuck going through the pouch due to big bites, too much volume, not chewing well enough, the band being too tight, etc. and the food comes back up. It's not really "throwing up" because it doesn't come from the stomach and is not mixed with stomach acid. Usually you feel pressure and need to get to the bathroom quickly and then you cough or burp and the food comes out, usually with "slime." Sounds gross, and I guess it is, but you learn how to deal with it--mostly by avoiding it!

Having the band is definitely a learning process and you are certain to have some pb's along the way. No worries. I carry papaya enzyme with me and if I feel "stuck," I chew a few and they act like Drano for me. I haven't pb'd for a LONG time and haven't used papaya for a few years. You will learn how to avoid pb's and pain, for sure!

Good luck to you. There is lots of info on this board. Check out the threads especially for beginners. When is your surgery date? Hope you do well, I'm sure you will.

I haven't lost as much or as fast as many people here but I'm totally satisfied with my band and SO glad I made that decision to have it, even though I was self-pay.

Keep in touch!

I can't see what you are looking at to get the 2008 dates. Mine shows today's posts as "Today at ...p.m." and those before today have month, day, 2010 as the date posted. Not sure what the problem is for you. Sorry!

You look great too Ifyoursom...I have to agree...I do feel better in my body and I cant forget that. I am healthier at 51 I know without my band I would feel much older. I tried on all my clothes today from last spring and I can't belive how much smaller I am - only a size or two but I do feel younger than I did a few years ago. The band gave me my body back now it's up me to get my head back on straight too...ugg not as easy! ;

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
