I've been overweight for most of my adult life; well, all according to the chart that says if you're 5'2" you should weigh 110 lbs. I think that's a stretch for my body type. I've been comfortable and healthy at any weight around 150. I don't think I've weighed 110 since I was 12 maybe. We didn't have scales in our house when I was growing up, so I don't really know. I first felt obese after my first child when I weighed 145 in the months after delivery. Looking back, I was pretty well put-together, as I'd always been busty, so 110 has never made sense to me. Anyway, I would like to get under 150 and stay there. I grew up on a farm and worked hard physically, so I have a lot of muscle weight. About ten years ago my daughter had the stomach bypass surgery-she is taller and was near 300 lbs in her early 20's when she decided to have the surgery. She has had stomach pain ever since, and has some other chronic pain issues made worse by having terrible stomach pain whenever she takes pain medications. She eventually had a second surgery for an impacted bowel, where her intestine was actually in a knot. She wishes she had never had the surgery. I know four other people close to me who have had both bypass and banding surgeries. I chose the banding as I've gotten older and have several chronic pain issues as well as high blood pressure, high-cholesterol and very low energy along with life-long depression. I made the decision to pursue the surgery in early 2009, and have had to postpone two surgery dates last winter. I'm now having the surgery in May, and as I get closer want to have more contact with people who have been through it. The people I know no longer are close enough to talk to on a regular basis. I can't j lust call them up and ask questions when I have them, and there isnt' a regular support group near enough to be practical for me to attend regularly. So here I am, anxious to learn first-hand information. Thank you for being here. I wish I had been aware of this sooner.
