My question for the group!

I have a lot of radiating back pain, which I am assuming is just referred pain- But I suppose I'm looking for insights to shared or similar experience? I'll be asking my doc, and I'm trying not to worry about it, but also.. worrying is my side hustle. 😂

Corinneblooms, I'm 2 weeks post-op today and yesterday my back started hurting -- mid back pain, which I've never had before. I went to the gym a couple of days ago and did the TINIEST number of arm/ shoulder/ back exercises with the TINIEST of weights, but one rep of each left me completely worn out and I left! I've been telling myself that I pulled something or did something, but maybe it's just the post-op thing!

I have been a little bummed that I got the illusion from social media that recovery would be a breeze. 😂
How is everyone else doing? Recovery-wise or in anticipation? I can't wait to get to know you all!

Maybe it is a breeze for some people, but I think perhaps most of us have something. I had an UNREAL allergic reaction to the dermabond and my incisions became these horrible super itchy angry splotchy red messes with a little bit of bonus leaking fluid! After a couple of days of Benadryl, cortisone cream, then an antibiotics prescription from my doctor, they have finally calmed down and seem nearly healed.

Took me 4 days to poop

I'm 2 weeks out and I think I have pooped a total of 4-5 times since the surgery; the first time was 3 days post-op. A couple of times it was a real struggle!

I also had surgery on the 16th. The hospital 2 days were uneventful, first few days at home were a relative breeze, some abdominal pain aside- didn’t take any pain meds. I ran into a problem Friday night, blood pressure and heart rate bouncing around, mild fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit) off and on. Kinda scary, not dehydrated (drinking pretty well) but on bp meds. Feeling better today but waiting to hear back from cardiologist. It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride for sure.

Goodness, that is scary! Will you present to the ER if it keeps up?

Best description I've seen for what this feels like. I'm 4 days post-op and still learning what my stomach is asking for. More, less, none?

Pain is tolerable, getting out of bed is the hardest part for sure. I'm so tired, as well. Many naps.

I also am struggling to get in the required amount of Protein and fluids- I'm hoping today is easier because hopefully my stomach is less swollen and painful.

Yes! I so agree! I've been adding flavourless Protein and Benefiber to one Meal Replacement shake and Soup per day. I figure that will help- considering I'm not consuming all of them anyway. 😅 But it's such a riddle- I think we are so used to the signals our bodies send us, and suddenly we're getting different signals- and everyone is getting slightly different signals- what do they meannnn? 😂😭

For me generally mid-back pain is referred epigastric pain. But I'm sure it's variable for everyone! I hope it doesn't stick around! ♥️

I had a revision from the sleeve to the traditional duodenal switch on October 4. The scale isn’t moving a lot but I’m losing inches. Good luck to everyone!

This is completely anecdotal, and not actual medical advice. When in doubt, check with your doctor!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've had referred back pain frequently following Diverticulitis or other abdominal infection. Even after the infection has healed, the lower/mid back pain persisted typically for weeks, and sometimes months because I was trying to stabilize the muscles in front by overworking my muscles in the back.

It wasn't until I went to Physical Therapy and learned some stretches and exercises that the pain went away. If the inflammation and irritation from the surgery appears to have subsided, it may be worth asking your doctor for a referral to PT for review. I am hesitant to share the exercises since I am not a medical professional, and I don't know which would be a benefit vs which one may irritate the area you had surgery on.

Hello everyone. I just discovered this forum a couple of days ago and wanted to chime in. I had my RNY on Oct 9th and am now just over 2 weeks post op and down about 23 pounds already. That liquid diet was rough. I thought i'd share something that helped me get through it. I discovered Fairlife Elite Protein Shakes. They taste delicious and don't have that chalky taste that Ensure and others have. Best thing about it, they are packed with a whopping 42g of Protein per 14oz bottle! It has really helped me hit my protein goals these past weeks. It does have 8g of sugar in it, but I haven't had any problems with dumping syndrome after drinking them. Just thought i'd pass that along. Glad to meet you all.

I am 4 days post op (sleeve) and had a tiny poop today. We're talking between the size of a regular M&M and a peanut M&M. Still a victory and not surprising, considering all I have had is liquid for 2 days pre-op and 3 days post. By the way, I've always been a regular pooper...hope that's not TMI!!

Did my shopping for my 2 week post-op diet today. Surgery is on Friday and I am so excited to get to have creamy Soups after two weeks of nothing but Protein Shakes and Jello.

I’m 2 days post-op, and I think the worst part of recovery is the gas discomfort. Thankfully that’s finally subsiding. Now I’m focusing on trying to get in enough Protein and liquid in. I hope everyone is doing well. Good luck to those who are still awaiting their surgery.

Yeah the gas pain was the worst. Just keep trying to walk after your surgery. If really does help.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
