October 2023 surgery buddies

Kendrajones. Thank you for sharing! I think the one thing I am worried about is how I will feel after surgery. I am glad to hear you did so well. I've had a hysterectomy and a c-section (not in that order, haha) and did fine. So I am sure. Just remember to be careful. When you feel okay you can overdo it. How are you with drinking? Are you hungry (some people say they are and some say hey are not)? Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Eva! My mouth has been extremely dry since the surgery. I am lots and lots of sips of Water. Had a little Gatorade Zero with Protein yesterday, but that was pretty much all I had besides water. This morning I had 4 ounces of a Protein Shake that I sipped over about 45 minutes and it felt fine. And I'm still sipping lots of water because of the dry mouth. I would LOVE to guzzle it and I've had to stop myself a couple of times from doing so! I HAVE felt little hunger pangs that are very temporary -- about three of them since yesterday and then they go away. I occasionally feel a little "woozy" -- like slightly lightheaded, but nothing major.

I have felt VERY tempted to overdo it and go back to my regular schedule because I feel so okay. My sister, who is a operation recovery room nurse, is here visiting with me during this for a week, and she's very helpful. I almost cried when I asked her to please get up in the morning to feed my kids Breakfast, make their lunches and get them to school (they are teenagers) so I could sleep in because (a) I hate asking for help, and (b) I feel like I need to do those things. But she of course insisted on doing it because I need to rest for a few days. I'm working from home this week (and maybe next week too) and I'm already answering emails. I knew my biggest struggle would be to slow down and take time for me, so that's just what I need to focus on every day, all the time.

Kendrajones Thank you for the information. It is always good to know what to expect. You are lucky to have your sister staying with you. Just keep taking care of yourself. I ended up having my stomach bleed because I overdid it after my hysterectomy (because I felt fine, just tired). I delayed my recovery and had to be even more careful. So, I think taking it easy in these early days leads to a quicker recovery. I heard getting the Water in the first few days is hard and that leads to the woozy feeling. My surgery is October 27; it will be here before I know it. Being so close, I wish it were tomorrow so I didn't have to anticipate it so much. I am ready to be done and move on. Good luck!! Keep up posted. Remember to take it easy!

I am also certain that I am not getting in enough plain Water, but I am putting Protein powders in water and counting those toward both protein and water. But I'm still not drinking enough water, and I feel like i am constantly sipping water all day long! Sometimes I'll take too big a gulp and it feels a little like I have 30 seconds of heartburn -- always a reminder to take smaller sips! 2 days out and feeling good. Took a nice walk with my sister today -- she's going back to Alabama tomorrow. Booooo!

Thank you for the encouragement GrannyMaggie. I’ll be thinking of you on Monday. Best wishes for smooth sailing.

I wish you the very same! I think the mental aspect of that last day before/first days of the preop diet can be pretty hard from a grief standpoint- kinda like you’re formally admitting it’s the end of a way of life, even if you know it’s something you have to do. And the diet itself is just dreary but WHAT a prize at the end!! Stay strong and keep focused on that. If there’s any time to be both kinder and more focused on YOU, it’s now!

I accidentally discovered this today and it’s made my day. I noticed that I could have cream based broth so I strained a can of progresso creamy chicken and noodle Soup and ate the broth. My husband had the chunky part on toast. It’s a game changer after so much sweet liquid stuff.

Week 1 of pre op is done… just Protein Shakes (mixed with water) and veggies. Surgery date is 10/16- VGS. Any suggestions for vegan/plant based shakes? I’ve been using Planta and it’s pretty tasty but at four shakes a day it’s getting old and I need to change it up.

I can get my required Water intake in easily- love love love those sugar free A&W rootbeer packets.

I'm 5'2 and weigh 200lbs. I have Type 2 diabetes and High Blood Pressure and I'm ready to change my health for the better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
