Looking for friends, just starting my journey!

Hi there

Im just starting my bariatric surgery diet. It is something I have wanted for a while, but just recently got the courage to go through with it. It will probably still be a few more months out, but I'd love to make new friends that I can experience this journey with! I'm 36 with a 6 year old and a 1 year old.

Hello and welcome to the bariatric life. I'm Kim, 38 no kids. From MD.

You will find lots of helpful stuff on here and maybe some not so helpful stuff. (haha) Overall, I had a lot of questions answers just by reading everything when I first started the WLS process.

Welcome. I've been here since shortly after my first consultation, and the knowledge and advice I've gotten here has been invaluable.

Welcome! I am also working on my journey. Been going on 5 months so far. I have all my procedures completed. I have 1 more dietician call and then hopefully they will call with my appointment with the surgeon. Then it'll be another 3 to 6 weeks before surgery. I've found this group to be very helpful.

I live in Baltimore. I used to work in Jessup years ago! I had my surgery at Franklin Square in Rossville. (Baltimore county)

Welcome! I'm new(er) to this community, as well, but it's been great so far to learn from others who are or have been in the process. I had my initial consultation in January of this year and completed all of my pre-op requirements at the beginning of June. My surgery is scheduled for July 21. I'm having VSG.

I'm 31 and live in Florida. No children but I do have the cutest, most spoiled English Bulldog. :D

Hey everyone, thanks for your responses. I had a few super days at work and with my kiddos, so just getting a chance to respond. For some reason I can't figure out how to respond to people individual? Its probably right in front of my face, but for some reason I can't figure it out. So far I have had a meeting with the surgeon, my surgical optimization visit and 2 visits with a dietician. I have a couple more visits, and my EGD is scheduled for October, so I still have a while I guess.

Hello. I'm in Southern Illinois, 47. I am also in the early stages. I have had my initial consult with the surgeon. On July 11 (My b'day) I have an appt with the nutritionist and getting an upper Gi. July 19 I get the psych eval. I had done the liquid pre-op diet a couple days so I know what to expect. I am excited but nervous!

If you use the "Quote" button, it is an individual response. :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
