Day 2 is done, now on day 3. Hubby went to the store and bought me some V8 (I love the stuff), some sugar free iced tea, and some pho broth (my absolute FAVORITE). It's really helped. And tomorrow he's ordering chinese food for dinner and getting me wanton Soup (my other favorite - but I won't be eating the wantons, sadly). He's really going above and beyond to help me get through this diet, and I just love him even more for it. Surgery is 5 days away. I got this!!!

It’s so amazing when you have a supportive partner! I know I wouldn’t have been able to get to this point without mine. He said when I start my pre-op diet he’s going to do it with me.

It’s not easy at all. Just try and keep yourself as busy as possible and just try and think about the future. As far as hunger pains after surgery, I can tell you I’m 9 days out and they are still there! I wake up every day around 4 or 5am with extreme hunger pain bc I’m still on liquids after.

That is so awesome! Love the husband supporting you so well. My husband is always so supportive, yesterday was his birthday, so I cooked him food and ate my Soup 🥣 broth and cheesecake Protein pudding as they had cake. Kids did dishes and I put

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case. With so much of the hunger hormone removed, I hoped it would be a while before we felt hunger like that. :(

Me too! I adjusted my eating to try and have a later Protein Shake and that has helped a bit, but for sure it’s there! And that is with meeting my daily Protein goals

Some people do experience hunger post surgery but it is not the norm. It is possible that what you are experience is acid. Some doctors automatically prescribe PPI’s for this but some you have to ask for it. If you are already on PPI’s then some say that warm beverages such as tea help to curb the hunger.

Ok, so day 3 is a wrap, and I'm still struggling, although i was surprised to see I've lost 5 pounds in 3 days on this liquid diet, so that kind of helped my motivation lol I know this isn't necessarily for weight loss per se, but it's at least a nice perk. I'm really just having issues when I have to take my pills. They require food, and even when I take them with milk and/or milkshakes, my stomach still gets really upset. This worries me when the surgery is over and I can only have Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. I'm really nervous about how sick my stomach will get.

Its normal to feel this way. We have been eating/drinking a certain way for a certain number of years and now we have to stop. It’s not fun. But keep in mind this diet is important to shrink your liver for an easier surgery and recovery as well as jump starting your weight loss journey. As far as the nausea, not sure what to tell you now but after surgery the will send you home with Zofran or other anti nausea meds to help. I never experienced nausea after surgery but some do and you may. Try and keep your mind on your 5lb weight loss and use that motivation to push you through. You can do it

I’m alright. Minus the tension headache. I’m out of caffeine withdrawal (did that last week before the LRD) so I think my body is just mad 😡 🤷🏼‍♀️

At the end of day 5 of the two week program. Mostly it been okay just a few headaches. Right now I have another serious nausea attack. Took a pill for the nausea. I really hope that it kicks in sooner rather than later.

When you take them with a shake do you make sure to take it near the end of the shake? As in you have a full shake coating your belly already?? I take all my pills including my Vitamin with Iron in the morning with a shake and have made the mistake of taking the vitamin before the end and I immediately vomited it up both times. As long as I take it near the end of the shake I am fine.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
