Wind and stool problems post op

Recommended Posts

Had my bypass 2017 and ever since I've had problems with wind and bowl movements. They are offensive, often loose and you have to spend ages just flushing the toilet to make them go down. The wind is also uncontrollable, it's embarrassing. Has anyone else found the same and found anything that works.

It sounds as if you may need a little fibre in your diet. Try whole grains like barley and oats, Beans like chick peas, lentils and edamame. { there are thousands of beans and grains} Fruits and vegetables. Alternatively ask at the pharmacist if there is a supplement you can take. You can take charcoal tablets for the wind. I hope you get relief soon.

Incorporate yogurt or a strong probiotic for the wind.

Charcoal is not good for all the supplements you need to take. Do not take charcoal unless recommended by your physician. It is adsorptive and will pull all the Vitamins and minerals along with whatever else.

it's a lot more common to have issues with Constipation than diarrhea, although I've seen a handful of posts like this before. I wonder if it's some kind of food intolerance? Like to some artificial sweetener?

That's interesting. No, I had sleeve in 2018 and no issues with pooping or odor.

I agree with catwoman7, maybe some lactose intolerance?

Lactose intolerance can cause excessive wind & foul odours so I agree it’s something worth exploring.

Have you ever spoken to your surgeon about this because it isn’t a common experience. If not, i think it is something you need to seek medical help with from a someone who specialises in gastroenterology like your surgeon.

Hope they can find some answers & a solution.

I had a mini bypass in February and have had the same problem. Loose stools and gas. I find my odours revolting, as does my family. I think it may be related to what I eat. Recently I ate some fatty food on my birthday and the next day, I had diarrhoea and could barely make it to the toilet. It's so gross, and I feel your pain.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
