March 2022 Surgery Buddies

  • Popular Post

Hey Guys! So I have a date (again), it's March 8th - meaning my 2 week "liquid" diet will start Feb 22.

The short month of February makes me feel like I've been granted a shortcut somehow! Who else has a date for March??

  • Congratulations to all the March surgery dates. I was March 9 last year and boy what a year it has been so far. I am currently stuck at about 9 pounds from goal. I may have to add in more exercise to

  • Got a March 17th date a couple of weeks ago. Very excited and nervous. And very hopefully it doesn't get postponed for one reason or another. That would be so disheartening at this point.

  • Mindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feel

Hi All, I have my surgery scheduled for March 15 and am about 2 weeks into my liquid+1 meal preop diet. But I'm struggling to lose weight even though I'm following the surgeon's guidelines. I'm super nervous they will postpone my surgery if I haven't met their weight loss goals for pre-op. Has this happened to anyone, any advice is welcomed?

Did your provider give you pre surgery weight loss requirements? My understanding is it's a liver shrinking diet, it might Kickstart weightloss but it's about shrinking the liver to give the surgeon more room to manipulate. I would reach out to your providers office, let them know your concerns about the pre-op diet holding up/postponing your surgery.

We are surgery twins. Started the diet today also for the third time and today has been the hardest. The other two times were a breeze.

Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow!

I've got my final pre-op with the surgeon tomorrow. I'm expecting to get my pre-surgery diet instructions. I'm not nervous... I'm anxious to get to surgery day. It's been a long 9 month process of jumping through hoops with very low expectations of insurance approving my revision. Now that they have, I just want to get on to the next stage. I am ready for this stage. I'm all in. It's hard because my partner is having a sleeve bypass 1 month after I have my revision and she's in a much different mindset than I am. She's like "after the liquid phase, well be able to have whatever we want, just a bite or two" and I'm like "nope, I'm making healthy choices, I've been through this before, it truly is just a tool that will help you start those healthy habits so they stick long term"

My 50th birthday is two weeks after my surgery and she thinks I can have a bite of ice cream cake. I'm like, no. So we are having some of my favorite foods that she makes and my birthday cake Friday night. Still gonna have a bigger party actually on my birthday with family and friends but that's just to celebrate and the food won't be an issue for me.

Wow lol that was a lot! I'm overdue for a session with my therapist. Lol

Thanks so much, that's very kind of you. I am sooooo ready for this!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE SURGERIES TODAY! THINKING OF YOU ALL FOR A SMOOTH RECOVERY!

I can't believe it's surgery month. I'm so excited and a little anxious. I hope everybody is doing well. I found the surgical binder on Amazon, thanks! I ordered it, some protein shakes and a case of crystal light, cherry pomegranate.

I haven't been feeling the best, checked my urine, yep a UTI. I tend to get these once a year. The antibiotics make me nauseated and so I haven't been eating well at all.

I've got the liquid stage set. Do you have foods in mind for the second phase?

Update: I'll be on 2 weeks optifast starting Monday. Pre-op testing a week prior, then the green light.

I'll have one week vacation followed by one week of computer-based training at work (as opppsed to field work), which is why I planned this when I did.

I am pre-op but my pureed stage is partially planned with split pea soup and black bean soup. I was going to try egg salad as well since it is basically already pureed. I don't think I can get down with just pureed meat by itself. I might try some chili too, although it depends on how I handle all the flavor.

I live on that stuff. It's what I chose last year to replace my diet soda habit, and I drink quite a bit of it.
