I have not had surgery yet, but the question is one that will be covered pretty soon with the dietitian, I am just wanting to know now. I know about the Protein powder-but can you buy ready made shakes? When I go back to work, I doubt if I will be able to make them with the powder without a lot of fuss and mess. Are there ready made shakes that I can buy and taste-test, or??

There are probably 20 different kinds you can get at the supermarket. Among those are Premeir, Muscle Milk, Boost, Fairlife etc, etc.

There are tons of options out there! I buy the Premier Protein shakes by the case from costco and have one nearly every day. You can get packs of 4 from Walmart of Kroger to try, order them from Amazon, or buy sample packs from some manufacturers. There are also Protein waters, which are a little less thick and not a sweet, if you prefer those.

Yep, lots of ready to drink alternatives. I like Evolve and Owyn.

The premade shakes can get a bit expensive. You can also get a few shaker bottles and make shakes for the day either the night before or in the morning.

Tons of readymade shakes. Find them in the grocery, cvs, target, Walmart, also on Amazon. Thing is do not buy many for after surgery. I bought 6 cases. Now post surgery I find them tooo sweet, yuk. So I have 6 cases I can’t use.

Just a heads up though, tastes change. Don’t go and buy a ton before surgery. What you can stomach now you may not be able to later. For me I was great with Premier Protein before surgery. Now I find everything is so sweet and I can no longer do chocolate without having dumping. Buy one bottle of a few brands to try after surgery to see what sits well. After surgery it’s a struggle getting in all your Protein. Check out some of the protein waters to see if that will help you as well.

Best to get a variety to try post surgery as others have said. Some people’s tastes change especially for sweet stuff. Premiere Protein has a variety pack on Amazon. Not sure which others do but you can also buy singles at convenience stores. Clear protein Water was my go to post surgery in the beginning because shakes were too sweet. Now I the caffe latte from premiere protein (it has caffeine though and some aren’t allowed caffeine right away).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
