November Surgery Buddies!!!

Recommended Posts

Guessing I'm hitting the famous 3 week post op stall. I'm actually up 2 lbs over the last 5 days. Maybe connected to starting puree? Not sure. Focusing on Water and Protein today. Also, I typically am not weighing mid week. I did today only because I have a zoom meeting with my doc this morning.

Have a good day!

Daisy and Sunshine, I also had my gastric sleeve surgery on the 30th plus a hiatal hernia fixed. I am surprised with how much pain I am in. No interest in food yet, just trying to get rid of this gas, somehow get comfortable, and drink Water.

Post-Op

Hi Everyone

I am 1 week and 2 days post op for the gastric sleeve. The first day after surgery was a miserable experience.(Gas) The use of Gas x and peppermint tea was very helpful with the gas pains and stomach discomfort. I haven't had any issues with swallowing pills. Each day get's better and I am able to keep down all liquids. The incision on my upper left side is still a little painful and tender. Overall, I am doing great and have lost 15.6lbs so far. We Got This!

I had gastric sleeve surgery on Nov. 23rd with a hiatal hernia repair as well. The use of gas x and peppermint tea was very helpful to me. Walking helps as well. I hope you feel better with each passing day.

Hi Everyone,

I'm about 4 weeks since surgery and so far I am having two issues that I am wondering how everyone else is handling (if you have having too). One is that I seem to be having quite a bit of heartburn. I am taking the antacid that my doc prescribed but I seem to be using Tums in between to help - how are you handling if you are having this issue. And secondly, I am having a very hard time getting all my liquids in. If I drink all the liquids my doc wants me to drink I can't seem to eat food. How are you getting all the liquids and food in?

Prilosec works well.

Thanks, Grands. I only have about 3 more capsules from the doc so I wasn't sure what I should get to help until I see him next week.

It seems I posted under the wrong thread since I have had gastric bypass 🤦🏻‍♀️

But it still is the same journey for all of us regardless of the kinda procedure we have had 😂

First 2 days, pain was bothersome but managed with Tylenol and resting. I have experienced resting for an hour or so helps a lot. So I follow that and only use 2 or 3 regular strength 325mg of Tylenol. I feel much better today (Day 3). So hoping by the end of the week, I'll be able to stroll without having to hold my stomach.

Hope everyone is progressing well on your respective end. 🤗

Ladies contour undies help with this. After my csections and this surgery and other abdominal surgeries I've had I use them to help stop the "my stomach feels like it's going to fall out of my body " feeling. They help

Hi all, just checking in. Hope you're all doing OK. Have finally lost another pound so that's 4 in total in the 17 days since my op. Feel like it's gonna be slow but sure for me and I'm fine with that. I just got my 'A Pound of Cure' book this morning and it looks like good general advice so I'll be reading that cover to cover. Can already see that giving up dairy may be one of the hardest for me - I drink a lot of coffee with a lot of milk every day. Anyway it's for the long term, milk is helping with Protein goals at present so as far as I'm concerned it's my best friend!

Still on 2 protein shakes/mousses a day along with very soft/liquid foods like Soups and smooth oatmeal made thin. Meeting my goals, getting my Vitamins, eating around 600 calories a day. I'm still very hungry but hoping that will settle a bit when I eventually get onto more solid food. Pain is only when I bend over or try to lie on my side in bed - again getting better every day. Back to work on Monday so that will be my challenge for next weel!

How is everybody else doing?

I was moved to soft foods this week, and I just put in my grocery order with things like lump crab meat and lean deli meats and cheese to make roll ups- I can’t wait! I had a Turkey meatball and low sugar sauce that I made with a spoon of low fat ricotta and I felt like I was getting closer to normal!
does anyone else’s clinic count weight lost from the first day of the liquid diet? I’m not sure if that’s weird or not

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
