Chewing gum after surgery

I was told not to chew gum after the bypass. It's been almost 5 moths post op. When is it okay to chew gum? sugar free gum

Chewing gum may cause excess stomach acid due to the stomach expecting food. If you have excess stomach acid issues may not be a good idea. Either way may be chat to your surgeon or doctor.

That's a question for your surgery team, but if you don't like their answer (or don't get one), you can try it and see how it goes. I've read that it does introduce more air into your stomach. Or maybe someone here will answer with their experience. I am only three weeks out, and I can't chew gum do to dental work.

Accidentally swallowing gum can block your pouch which can result in a trip to the ER and a not fun procedure to remove the gum.

Famous last words "I won't swallow my gum"
