Sugar Free/fake sweeteners drinks

Recommended Posts

Now that I am almost 6 months post op, I decided to drink something other than just plain Water. I tried Crystal Light, and it was disgusting! I tried 3 diff flavors, and just do not like the after taste. Then I decided to try diet ice tea by Snapple, and thought that was also nasty, and left an after taste. Hubby bought me some sugar free cocoa, and again it is gross, and leaves a weird after taste. Is this happening to anyone else? What is everyone drinking at this point? I am so sick of plain water.

At your stage, I liked Mio Water flavors. I liked herbal tea, green tea, regular tea. I really liked coffee with caramel premiere protien shake in it....tasted like a fancy coffee drink.

These days I drink coffee with lowfat milk and splenda or Monkfruit. I really like Monkfruit...it's my new thang. LOL

I also drink a can of diet pop most days now. (Which is contrary to most bariatric surgeon's advice, so maybe don't do this! LOL)

There's really nothing wrong with water. If you like water best, stick with water! It's good for you.

If you think the sweeteners are grossing you out, try Monkfruit. Much much better than Stevia IMO, and a little different from Splenda and Aspertame.

I drink all of those and they've never bothered me. Some people are sensitive to artificial sweeteners, though (or at least SOME artificial sweeteners). To some it's the taste, to others, they get G/I distress from them. I guess keep trying to see if there's one you can tolerate.

I wish I drank/liked coffee. I never liked it. The coffee with caramel sounds good even though I wouldn't try it.

I was told that we can NEVER have soda again in our lifetime! My surgeons staff drilled it into my head a million times because I was addicted to diet coke. I had to wean myself off a few months before surgery. Drinking less, and less, until I was only drinking water. Approx. 2 weeks before surgery, I was down to the tiny cans, and couldn't even finish them. I didn't enjoy it the way I had in the past. I mean, I was drinking like a 2 liters a day. I think that this is where the dislike for fake sweeteners started?

I will have to see if I can find drinks with the Monk Fruit that you are talking about. I have never heard of this. Is this something new? Do you know of any good drinks to try with it?

I rely heavily on artificial flavors and sweeteners. I haven't found a dislike/distaste of them yet.

I'm practically married to artificial sweeteners at this point. That and PB2. Must suck not to like them! :/

What do I drink besides good old H2O? Hm. coffee, Protein hot cocoa, clear whey in Water, banana split sugar-free Protein Shakes, sugar-free drink mixes. All except coffee with some kind of sweetener, I guess.

(I apologize for any auto-generated links above. Be prepared to wait weeks for your shipment, which will not contain more than half your paid-for items, if you buy something. You'll still pay customs on the total amount as an international buyer, though)

I love the costco brand of Vitamin Water (I think theirs is called Vita Rain). Zero sugar, not too sweet. I drink 4 every day at work so gets me at least 80 oz of water.

I was a 2 liter or more a day diet coke drinker and I don't like coffee either. A few months before surgery I had stopped drinking Diet Coke it was so hard. But aspartame did alot of weird things to my digestion and I felt so much better when I stopped. Now I like hint water which is fruit infused water no calories available on Amazon, I like raspberry, blackberry, peach. Green apple has a kick and I do not like the watermelon. After surgery diluting the apple or can grape juice is nice. Squeezing lemon in the water is good. Also drinking the chicken broth is satisfying as a drink. I had a couple of rootbeers before surgery but that won't be happening again.

I like those, too. Plus they're cheap compared to other flavored waters..

Hint Water is good for just a tiny flavor. what about infusing fruit, mint, cucumber into water. CirKul (sp?) has some flavors that you might enjoy. I make Decaf tea and sweeten it myself. the squeezable water mixins work better because you control how much you add. Good luck!!

"I was told that we can NEVER have soda again in our lifetime! My surgeons staff drilled it into my head a million times because I was addicted to diet coke." Yep, me too.

This is absolutely correct and I'm not advising anyone to go against good advice.

However, I also believe in being real and honest. I risk it. So far have had no ill effects. I have good restriction, and have not had an issue with one can of diet soda a day. I think if one can of soda turned into several you could run into issues.

Not recommending you do this. Just saying...it hasn't caused me any issues in three years. Not an endorsement...just an admission.

Your luck that you don't find them yucky like me.

I have also tried Hint and didn't care for it. I tried the infusing also and don't care for it either. I know I am being picky...at least that is what my hubby says.

I was told that soda stretches the pouch?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
