PAIN, 8 DAYS POST OP

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had my sleeve on Jan 15. It’s day 8 and I am still in pain. I really thought I would be up exercising and moving around without any problems at all. Pain wise, I have a sharp stabbing pain on my right side, and a dull throbbing pain in my left lower stomach. I have been taking liquid Tylenol ( took liquid norco for 3 days post op) Is this pain normal. I did go see my doctor and he said the pain on the right is from where the stomach was removed. Does anyone else still have pain 8 days out? Thank you for all inputs.

Sorry to hear you are still suffering with pain. Was the doctor you saw your surgeon? If not, it may be worthwhile touching base with the surgeon see if its its anything to be worried about or not.

I was uncomfortable and had pain the first week, but once I bounced back it was full steam ahead. Maybe you are doing too much ? Your body needs time to heal, try an put your feet up this weekend.

Thank you so much for answering! I’m just worrying that something could be wrong...I’m a worry-wart. Lol.

Woah up and exercising a week out of major surgery? That's...rare. Pain is normal. A lot of internal work is done with these surgeries but because most are done laproscopically we can sometimes forget. Try to continue with your pain management protocol.

Safe and happy healing 💚

Thank you for your response. When I say exercising I mean walking around the block and walking up and down basement stairs a few times a day... so nothing vigorous. This pain is worse than any pain I’ve every had. I’ve broken my legs and that was nothing in comparison. I just feel kinda disappointed because a few of the posts I’ve read sounded like people were not in much pain. I just have this constant stabbing pain in my lower abdomen that doesn’t let up. Again, thank you for your answer. Have a great day😊

Ahhh ! Now that seems like a more manageable expectation

A lot of people fall on many sides of the spectrum of healing so its really hard to accurately compare your journey to others. (I was in terrible pain for 2 straight weeks post my initial VSG surgery and virtually no pain post RNY conversion)

But only you know your body, so don't hesitate to tell your team if you believe the pain is excessive.

I had surgery on 1/10 and my wife had surgery on 1/17. I had almost zero pain and was out walking around the block and going up and down the stairs 2 days after surgery. I was really surprised. However my wife is still having pain. Everyone and every surgery goes a little differently. Rest up and don't do too much, just let it heal and you should be fine soon.

Thank you. I was becoming discouraged because it seemed as though so many people were pain free within a short time. It helps to hear there are others that are taking a bit longer to be pain free. Thank you! Today is the best day I’ve had! Still have a lot of pressure in my lower abdomen when I stand up but the sharp pains are gone!

Good morning. Thank you to you both. It’s helped very much to hear there that. I feel better knowing I’m “ not progressing as well as most”. Blessings to you all and I pray everyone has a wonderful day!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
